A stable solution with good duplication capabilities and fair pricing
The duplication is the solution's most valuable feature The backup reports and the dashboard need improvement.  I've been using the solution for five years. The solution is quite stable. We haven't had any problems over the past five years of use. Scalability is fine. We keep adding different…

Efficient data recovery and replication features
There is a big change in Veritas. In the past, we could easily change servers or appliances and continue working by restoring the catalog. We could change servers from Linux to Linux or Linux to Solaris and perform catalog restores to continue working. But with the new version, we are forced to engage Veritas' professional services, which is too expensive. Sometimes, we've received quotes exceeding $100,000 for a catalog migration. This expense was unnecessary in the past. For instance, we used to install a new release of Linux and simply restore the catalog, and the system would function well. But with the latest version, it's no longer feasible. For instance, if we want to migrate from appliance 5030 to 5060 or even just 5050, we are compelled to engage Veritas consultants due to the intricate data manipulation involved. This additional expense is quite expensive. In the past, these devices didn't even exist, and we could easily restore the catalog, resulting in a fully functional system. However, the new version demands expensive expertise for such tasks, which I find unacceptable for our clients.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Veritas is loaded with features because the appliance is ready to integrate with the cloud in cases where the customers have a hybrid or cloud environment."
"The solution's hardware appliance is very scalable and very useful."
"We're comfortable using this kind of technology. It's user-friendly."
"I think the most important feature is the ability of SaaS Backup to cover all modules proposed by Office 365, because competing solutions don't cover the total scope."
"It's very comprehensive. It's one of the first brands to appear in its field."
"The solution is stable; I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches on it."
"he most valuable feature is that it's not so intrusive with computer resources."
"What I like most about Veritas SaaS Backup is that it is easy to work on."
"Unauthorized people cannot log in and execute commands."
"Veritas released a new feature in version 8 of NetBackup called VRP. It's kind of like replication management from VMware. The great thing about this feature is that Veritas gave it to us for free."
"Veritas NetBackup is a reliable, easy-to-use, and easy-to-deploy solution."
"Could be used for both of Physical and Virtual Environments."
"It is a good solution. It covers most of the applications."
"The most valuable feature is replication because, using NetBackup replication, we can have disaster recovery of the data we have."
"The solution offers a lot of really great features that organizations can utilize and take advantage of."
"Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)"

Cons

"The go-between is a Veritas partner, so the customer support was not that good. The solution is fine except when there is a purchasing crisis where you have to remake the ecosystem. It causes a lot of issues. The support was a problem, but we're okay with it as long as we have someone to communicate with."
"The implementation could be improved. The server setup is very easy, but some specific client implementation, for example, Oracle or SQL servers, are a little bit complicated. they should offer a bit more assistance with the setup for these particular items."
"Currently, it isn't possible to use anything other than Veritas cloud to back up to. I think today it's important to cover the three major cloud provider: GCP, Azure and AWS."
"In the future, we would like to see support for virtualized machines."
"The tool can be improved in terms of maintainability and flexibility, especially as companies grow larger. In these aspects, I feel Veeam is better for cloud and operational purposes."
"Technical support can be improved."
"The backup reports and the dashboard need improvement."
"The usability of the solution isn't the best."
"This solution would benefit from a more friendly, web-based interface."
"We are looking forward to testing a feature that promises to allow us to host a workload directly from the backup appliance without rehydrating any items."
"NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly."
"NetBackup is expensive and should be cheaper. That is why we are moving on to another solution."
"Data restoration from Veritas NetBackup is quite slow. I would also like documentation that I can share with my technical team."
"DDBoost."
"The SQL Server backup features are not up to date."
"Technical support only gets back to us the following morning."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"SaaS Backup isn't the most expensive solution."
"The program is quite expensive."
"This solution is not cheap and not expensive but priced in the mid-range."
"The tool is expensive compared to Veeam."
"I would rate this solution's pricing as five out of five."
"Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses."
"Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
"When you compare NetBackup's software licensing system with Veeam's, which is simpler and based on instances (or how many physical machines or virtual machines you want to protect), NetBackup isn't that competitive for smaller scale companies. However, if you're running many large workloads, then NetBackup may be the better option."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
"Annual licensing fee."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"The licensing model for this solution is very powerful."
"The solution is expensive compared to other products."
