We've only had a couple of problems with them.

What is most valuable?

They work reasonably well. We've only had a couple of problems with them, and HPE knows about the problems.

What needs improvement?

On certain of their features that we have to use to migrate data, it tends to go off for about 60 or 90 seconds toward the end of the work.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is pretty good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scaling where we need to go. The issues we have are more the application not scaling. Application design issues, not hardware issues. The hardware will go further than our application will.

The most valuable features are integrity, performance, and stability.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are integrity, performance, and stability. It's a very good solution for the right price.

How has it helped my organization?

It's a better solution because we can operate faster than before.

What needs improvement?

If we could do more things online for the business, it would be great.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is very good.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We knew that we needed a new solution because we couldn't do what was needed for the business, so we needed a new and better solution. Beforehand, we were using the HPE EVA solution.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was straightforward, without any kind of problems. We installed it very quickly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We compared it with other products outside of HPE such as EMC CLARiiON. We chose 3PAR because it's a good product.

The most important criteria when selecting a vendor is the way that we can negotiate things. It's very important for us.

What other advice do I have?

If you buy 3PAR, you will have a good and stable solution for your business.

It is reliable and easy to administer. It meets all the requirements we have for storage systems.

What is most valuable?

The 3PAR is very reliable, flexible, scalable, stable, and is a high performance storage solution that is easy to administer. It meets all the requirements we have for storage systems. We used to have HPE’s XP solution. That was a little bit too costly. We also had the EVA systems on the 3PARs and the mid-range suits our work very well.

What needs improvement?

It is difficult for me to say where the areas of improvement are because we haven’t been able to test all the features yet. At the moment, it’s OK for us.

I would like to see it cheaper to increase the cost effectiveness.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is very good.

How is customer service and technical support?

Technical support is good. We are using and administering all the solutions. Technical support comes into play when we have problems and it doesn't work, but not for the solution setup.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is rather straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We needed to invest in a new solution because we moved out entire data centers.

I used to be at HPE, so we had to take HPE solutions. We are very confident with them. Now in the new company, we are going to set it up exactly as it was in HPE.

We made HPE come faster to the market with a solution that is market proven. We didn't want to have any additional risks.

If a colleague was looking for this or a similar solution, I would recommend they use it.

The scalability and the support are the most valuable features.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the scalability and the support, because you need to keep the business running.

How has it helped my organization?

I am not sure that there are benefits over other solutions. It's just that we've always used HPE. I think it comes down again to be more about support and the scalability.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see a lot more monitoring and reporting out of the box.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've scaled it up quite a bit. It doesn’t have any problems.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is getting better.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used to use HPE EVA. We needed to switch because we couldn't expand anymore.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. I was one of the first customers to get their StoreServ 7400. It wasn't a good experience at all. The guy who set it up didn't really understand the technology that he was building. He didn't have build documents. The solution that I was initially sold wasn't correct so the workloads failed. It was a nightmare.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I looked at things like Tintri and another company that I forget the name of now. They didn't have the support model that I needed at the time.

What other advice do I have?

I think that it's a more mature product now, so you’ll probably have a better experience; but certainly do your homework on your actual workloads and what you need. We initially got a solution which died all the time because we were trying to get too much output.

We made the decision to purchase it with the view for growth, and we know we'll just plug another array or another stack pretty quickly.

Valuable Features

The implementation of it was amazing. It's easy and it's come a long way. The platform we had before was about four years old, so the technology's always going to be better. We didn't take that for granted. Overall I think that the ease of understanding what we needed and then procuring it and getting it, and then how quick it was to get it installed. It's just amazing.

Improvements to My Organization

It's really taken away a few headaches that we had. It's one of those things you know it's there until you get something that's built for what we want to do, it was matched to what our requirements were. It's provided huge turnaround for us.

Room for Improvement

I'd like it to be quicker.

Stability Issues

So far, we've had no issues.

Scalability Issues

We know it's there. We made the decision to purchase it with the view for growth, and we know we'll just plug another array or another stack pretty quickly.

Customer Service and Technical Support

One of my engineers might have called, but I haven't.

Other Solutions Considered

It really came down to relationships. At the time it wasn't just going from EMC, it was also going from Cisco to HPE Networking. We went through a pretty good process, where we talked about our needs and requirements, and also comfort levels of technology change. Some of my engineers were a little reluctant to move away from Cisco. But HPE came and sat down and just said "We'll do whatever it takes. What do you need? What are your concerns?" Just worked with us in real detail: able to understand what our concerns were, where we were going, and making sure that the engineers were made comfortable. But also making sure, which was the last part which comes across the line, was that the technology was what we needed, was enough for growth. Whereas Cisco was just a "here's a quote, sent it to us" which I think for me swung me over to HP. The commitment to the customer.

Other Advice

Think about the next 10 years, where are you heading. Personally, I say HPE's a pretty strong organization. They send the right messages, saying the right things. They seem like a very digital company which is all about customer, and that stuff matters to me, whereas some of the competitors, they don't have that mindset. Cisco definitely doesn't have that mindset. I really think long-term about. Sure, Cisco had a lot more features, but we didn't really need them. So, that made the decision easier. For me, when I think about HPE, think about longevity. You want to invest in technology, you're almost investing in the company.

The older and newer HP systems mesh together well and we've been able to move data from the old to new easily.

What is most valuable?

It handles the structure of our system easily and provides us with really good performance. We have the older systems and not the new ones with the 7400. They all mesh together well and we've been able to move data from the old to new easily. It's also easy to code.

How has it helped my organization?

We use all of HP's services, so HP is a big partner of ours. Staying with HP for storage means we don't need to switch partners.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see just a little bit more virtualization so that as I work on the front end, I can make any necessary disc switches. I'd also like to see expanded correspondence systems.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

We had no issues with deployment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've had no problems with firmware, so all of this is really done smoothly without interruptions.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've always been able to upgrade easily and now have three or four kinds of upgraded systems.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We switched because HP is stable and reliable.

How was the initial setup?

We needed HP specialists to help stand up the 3PAR systems. It was a little tricky. After that, things were straightforward.

We're pleased with the scalability and that we're notified when updates come out.

What is most valuable?

Scalability is the most valuable feature.

How has it helped my organization?

We had unexpected capacity growth. We informed the integrator what was going on and they were able to work with HP, forecast what we needed, and install it overnight without any downtime.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see future versions have improved protection and optimization, such as whether we're using the right disks properly for the assigned workload.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No problems or issues with stability. We get notified from HP when the updates come out--really simple, quick, and easy with no downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

3PAR has been extremely scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Customer support is excellent.

Technical Support:

I think we’ve only had to call once for understanding the update process, but I've never personally had to call.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn’t have a solution in place, so we went through an integrator and got a recommendation.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was complex because we didn’t have any previous knowledge. It's been two years since, and I think it’s essentially a simple setup and we just didn’t have any prior experience.

What other advice do I have?

When deciding on a storage vendor you need to look at IOPs and scalability.

I would recommend 3PAR; we tell everyone everyday. It beats Hitachi and EMC (Clarion) hands down. We would recommend them over all those solutions.
