Practice Head - Advanced Analytics & Cloud at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Simple to install, with automatic updates and good community support
Pros and Cons
- "It has all the advantages of the Cloud in that you can use it without worrying about infrastructure, upkeep, or upgrades."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
It has all the advantages of the Cloud in that you can use it without worrying about infrastructure, upkeep, or upgrades. Informatica is in charge of all those things. Additionally, the SLA on the cloud is better.
What needs improvement?
Not all transformations are supported, unlike PowerCenter. However, I'm confident that they will include this in the roadmap.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have over 15 years of experience working with Informatica tools, and we have worked with Informatica Cloud Data Integration in the last 12 months.

How was the initial setup?
The installation is simple because it is on the cloud.
It is dependent on the number of jobs you have and so on. However, from a skill set standpoint, you only need one person to maintain this solution. You can also play a developer or administrator role. These are fairly straightforward roles with a lot of community support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'm not sure about the most recent pricing trends, but I don't believe it's significantly different from PowerCenter. I believe it is nearly the same.
What other advice do I have?
It is dependent on the requirements. If the transformation requirements are not too complex, I believe they can use the Cloud. However, if they have too many application systems to connect to, or too many databases, and require richer transformation capabilities, they can use PowerCenter.
We have a partnership with Informatica.
I would Informatica Cloud Data Integration an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

MDM Technical Architect at a energy/utilities company with 1,001-5,000 employees
A complete master data management solution with a useful fuzzy matching feature
Pros and Cons
- "I like the number of options that are presented with Informatica, fuzzy matching, and your screen."
- "They have too many diversified products. If you don't know Informatica, it's very confusing and feels very idiotic."
What is most valuable?
I like the number of options that are presented with Informatica, fuzzy matching, and your screen. I feel the screen or the configuration is pretty easy and pretty straightforward. To learn or to ramp up is also pretty straightforward.
What needs improvement?
They have too many diversified products. If you don't know Informatica, it's very confusing and feels very idiotic. If you want data quality, they have one tool. For management, they have another tool. If you say MBM, they have a tool, and they have another tool to get something up. From a split tools perspective, it's confusing for a new user and somebody who doesn't understand Informatica.
They say they provide support, but it's not easy for somebody reading and didn't use Informatica before. The price could also be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Informatica MDM for 12 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's pretty stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability depends on what you choose and how we will do it. If you don't know things, things get complicated.
How are customer service and technical support?
It starts pretty well, but it takes time. I would give technical support only a six or seven out of 10. I won't say it's like "wow" kind of stuff.
How was the initial setup?
I have been using it for a long time, so it's pretty straightforward for us. I don't know if it was complex earlier. What we're doing is technically complex, and there's always room for improvement.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented it. You need two or three people to install it, then it's easy, and one person can maintain it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's pretty high for us. It's more on the higher side, like low to middle high.
What other advice do I have?
I would tell new users that even though you feel it's pricey, there are a lot of options that come by default. They have to understand that they have to choose somebody who understands the product very well.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Informatica MDM an eight.

Senior Technical Architect at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
This is a one-stop shop with everything provided in one platform
Pros and Cons
- "Whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform."
- "Connectivity could be improved, it can be a little slow."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for cloud-to-cloud migration so our clients have all applications and data on their Oracle solutions, and we move it from there to AWS cloud and then to Salesforce. We're an implementation partner with Informatica and I'm the senior technical architect in the company.
What is most valuable?
The connectivity and their whole suite are valuable features. Whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform. There's no need to test different cloud vendors and then integrate with one solution. Informatica is a one-stop shop.
What needs improvement?
The one thing that I think could be improved is connectivity with the Salesforce because if you're loading a huge amount of data, whatever optimization is carried out, takes some time and it could be a little faster.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We had some very minor issues initially, but the product is stable. We haven't experienced any down time.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've just completed the first part of the implementation. In the upcoming months we plan to carry out multiple implementations and then we might see some challenges in the scalability. I think it will be fine. I have about 35 users in my team - around 40% are developers, 30% are testers and QAs and then a few are designers, data modelers, and architects.
How are customer service and technical support?
The way we carried out our transformation was throwing some junk value as an output and that meant we had to reach out to Informatica to see what kind of configuration changes might be required. They were pretty quick to respond and knowledgeable about the issue, and dealt with it very well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very simple and took a couple of days. AWS provided everything for us.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We initially wanted to build the programming language in Python but the client's needs made us realize that Informatica was the way to go. Our initial design was something different and it was the cost that put us off going with Informatica as a first choice. If we had worked with something like Python, it could possibly have been more scalable and the cost reduced.
What other advice do I have?
If cost is not a issue then I would recommend Informatica as the tool of choice.
I would rate this product an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Offers good structure and platform masking features but data discovery needs improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the structure masking and platform masking."
- "The data discovery isn't that good yet for Salesforce. We have another tool that we use for this. It may be a problem because Salesforce on the cloud."
What is our primary use case?
We have a lot of applications with different functionality. We use Informatica mainly for sensitivity tests.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the structure masking and platform masking.
I also like that for Salesforce integration we can use Informatica Cloud. For on-premise, normally we do the SQL server database.
What needs improvement?
I don't see where it has much room for improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for the last two years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have a team of 10 users on-premise. Their roles are doing the initial analysis for identification.
We don't currently have plans to increase usage.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate it a seven out of ten.
It's not a perfect ten because the data discovery isn't that good yet for Salesforce. We have another tool that we use for this. It may be a problem because Salesforce on the cloud.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Data profiling features help us to improve quality and mature our business processes
Pros and Cons
- "We are able to set rules, establish a data quality management platform, and monitor the quality."
- "I would like to see better visuals for business users, such as a dashboard where they can precisely track where problems are."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for data quality management.
How has it helped my organization?
We have matured as an organization with regards to better quality management, and we have evolved over time. This solution has had a positive impact on our efficiency, especially with regard to finance officers. They rely on the quality of data for customers and vendors so that they can invoice properly.
From a sales point of view, there are also improvements.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of this solution is data profiling. We are able to set rules, establish a data quality management platform, and monitor the quality. These features are excellent.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see better visuals for business users, such as a dashboard where they can precisely track where problems are. You should be able to better visualize data quality.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for about nine years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support for this solution is good. They have a good mechanism for support and I haven't experienced any problem with it.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to using this solution, we did not use a dedicated product for data quality. Rather, we used a combination of other products. One of these was CranSoft, by BackOffice Associates.
We switched because this product was quite immature, not covering the governance part of it. It was more for data quality, only.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of this solution is pretty much straightforward.
The deployment should not be complex, although there are other factors that influence the time it takes to complete.
What other advice do I have?
The suitability of this solution depends on your environment. If you need large scale data quality and rely heavily on different connections to ge the data, then you really need a good powerhouse and this is the best. But, for example, if you already have SAP in your organization then you may not need IDQ on top of it. There are different factors to consider.
This is a good solution, but I can't say that you can solve all of the problems using it. Informatica is focusing only on master data quality. In this regard, there is room for improvement, but it depends upon the use case.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Some of the valuable features are data replication tasks and REST APIs.
Pros and Cons
- "REST API: Excellent for scripting control and reporting mechanisms"
- "User/group administration could use improvement."
What is most valuable?
- Data Replication Tasks: Easy to configure, for the most part reliable, and also what my system deals with the most.
- REST API: Excellent for scripting control and reporting mechanisms
How has it helped my organization?
Ease of use, configurability, maintainability, and good aesthetics make for a more fluid functional process.
What needs improvement?
User/group administration could use improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for 15 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No stability issues as of yet.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The REST API could have the ability to generate tasks, and certain manual functions like updating/deleting data replication tasks could come with a bulk update option somehow.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would give technical support a rating of 10/10. They are just incredible.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I inherited this solution in its infancy, but I don't have the details.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing is difficult to understand, but the team is always available to explain anything. They are very helpful.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate any alternative solutions.
What other advice do I have?
Pose any and every question/doubt/concern to the team, especially with respect to licensing. They are excellent in their communication.

Graduate Assistant with 1,001-5,000 employees
It helped us realize our goal of maintaining a distinct (golden) record for better decision making and reporting, but we used to face some Java application problems using it.
Valuable Features
It allows you to build your own rules to identify the golden records as part of master data management.
Improvements to My Organization
It helped my client, a technology company, to identify a unique customer and remove the redundant customer information. For example, a customer might be linked with a product to the organization directly, indirectly or as a retailer. Informatica MDM helped us realize our goal of maintaining a distinct (golden) record in our database for better decision making and reporting purposes.
Use of Solution
I've been using it for 15 months.
Stability Issues
In general, it is good. We used to face some Java application problems, approximately two issues a month.
Scalability Issues
As the data keeps growing, we have to clear temporary storage space. Otherwise, we encountered issues in starting the batch jobs.
Customer Service and Technical Support
Customer Service:
3.5/5.
Technical Support:3.5/5.
Implementation Team
I worked as a vendor for one of my clients. As I heard recently, the contract is still on, so I think we are doing pretty well.
Other Advice
I used this product almost 18 months ago. Informatica is one of the renowned names in Enterprise Information Management and there has been some changes for their MDM product. I would suggest you check their recent upgrades and take an informed decision.

Senior Consulting Partner at GINNOVATES
I recommend reviewing and assessing the volume of data you will incorporate into the MDM, because the pricing seems to be based on row count used at the MDM Entities you built.
What is most valuable?
The flexibility to interact with many different sources and targets like Oracle, MySQL , Flat Files, Informix, SAP thru PowerExchange, applying different transformations that you can configure in an intuitive way, gives both business and IT teams the opportunity to track the data lineage and also to provide value to the data workflows you create, integrated to feed the MDM solution together with Data Quality processes.
How has it helped my organization?
The portability to use your integration flows into MDM and Data Quality helps to improve the data stewardship and also provides value for the metadata management you can take advantage of to document your business rules while interacting with different business data.
What needs improvement?
The product ranking we provide is 8 out of 10 -- because there are parts of connectivity with SAP Non-Unicode that are not supported by Informatica, since they only provide connectors to write on SAP Unicode. Then, we had to develop and enable the connectivity to write into SAP Non-Unicode.
Mainly, MDM requires improvement when you need to migrate your version to a later one -- because it is very difficult and takes a lot of time to convert the processes you have already developed and implemented on a previous version, and can cause a need to rework the processes.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using the Informatica Solution for Data Integration and Data Quality for 12 years. We've been using MDM for seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Sometimes the IDD console connectivity.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The difference between components and functionality from one version to the immediate latest one.
How are customer service and technical support?
It is good, however response time is always depending on the support contract you acquire.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
SAP MDG. At that point in time, it was not prepared to provide flexible integration and data quality process to generate a 360 view.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was kind of complex while polishing the business requirements to be translated into technical flows.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I recommend reviewing and assessing the volume of data you will incorporate into the MDM, because the pricing seems to be based on row count used at the MDM Entities you built.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes -- SAP MDG and IBM MDM .
What other advice do I have?
First, you need to assess the status quo of data integration and data quality at your organization, then, after you settle these strategies and implement the solutions, it is advisable to go for MDM.
If you do it the other way around, it will cause a lot of headaches and will cost you many more resources, time, and overall creditability to generate value beyond just results.
