Good integration with all SAP versions; error logging lacks analysis
Pros and Cons
- "Great Integration Suite, with CPI being its stable component."
- "Shows errors without providing any analysis."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The best feature of this product is its integration with all SAP versions. I also like the Integration Suite, with CPI being its stable component. We use Workflow Engine and CPI as our two basic components. The platform also moved to a subscription model which was a major breakthrough. On the technical side, SAP provides guides and detailed documentation.
What needs improvement?
For some of our customers, the product is too costly to purchase all the components or services. The logging aspect is difficult, the errors are there but there's no analysis. It would be helpful to have that. We sometimes get the standard text error but without any indication of where to look for it which means that an error takes longer to resolve.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for three years.

Pre-delivered content is a strength, but there aren't any easy migrations from SAP PO to SAP CPI
Pros and Cons
- "The pre-delivered content from the SAP cloud platform is definitely a strength."
- "The main problem is that there aren't any easy migrations from SAP PO to SAP CPI, so from process orchestration to cloud platform integration."
What is our primary use case?
I'm an integration architect, so I'm involved in implementations.
What is most valuable?
The pre-delivered content from the SAP cloud platform is definitely a strength. They are doing it, but it's still not a fully mature solution yet. So it's good for some business cases, but not for all of them.
What needs improvement?
The main problem is that there aren't any easy migrations from SAP PO to SAP CPI, so from process orchestration to cloud platform integration. The connectivity requirements, not only with the SAP environment but also with third party systems, are not fully fulfilled. The re-uses of the know-how from the process orchestration can be used but aren't fully used.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for five years.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is good.
How was the initial setup?
The setup of subclasses for integration is very easy. It's the cloud version, so they give you a username and password and it's done.
What about the implementation team?
I was the consultant.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution 7 out of 10.
I think it has room for improvement. They are doing it, but it's still not a fully mature solution yet. It's good for some business cases but not all of them.

Good data synchronization and easy to set up, but the interface and technical support need improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is the data synchronization, or the push and pull of the data."
- "Usability is a challenge most of the time and not being able to get all of the information."
What is our primary use case?
We provide services and implement solutions for our clients.
We integrate solutions and have experience with many different interfaces with possibilities to integrate. The primary use case of this solution is to integrate data.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the data synchronization, or the push and pull of the data.
What needs improvement?
The functionality of the interface can be difficult. Usability is a challenge most of the time and not being able to get all of the information.
Security, authentification, and logs need to be improved.
In the next release, I would like to see better navigation, better usability, clearness, and better integration with new technologies.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for five to six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable, but it depends on the customer's needs and experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It can be difficult and we have the experience, but sometimes you start and realize that there may be some gaps making it difficult to handle.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have contacted technical support, but usually, the response time is not optimal. They are average. When the integration is at the end processes and you need support quickly, you won't hear from them for a few days. This is not helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we were using Microsoft iOS. When using 3D, Microsoft is an easier tool to use. iOS is a complex tool to understand. Also, Microsoft support is better.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
It can take four to five days to deploy this solution.
What other advice do I have?
The decision is with the customer and what they want. We have had bad experiences or negative ones in performance and with the functionality.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Content Modifiers and mapping features help connect customers with services
Pros and Cons
- "The mapping transformation allows us to connect our on-premise ECC to the cloud system."
- "Better connectivity to on-premise systems would help us to support older systems that are migrating to the cloud."
What is our primary use case?
We are currently implementing POCs for our client using this solution.
Our primary use case involves fetching data that has been entered into the dashboard and updating it in our database. We also are fetching data entered into SuccessFactors and updating the ECC accordingly.
The current deployment is on a private cloud, which hosts our own database and ECC systems. The second POC was to connect to the public cloud for Twitter, Salesforce, and SuccessFactors data.
How has it helped my organization?
This solution has provided the means for our connectivity. The endpoint URL on the ETFs that we were using is on the public cloud. The problem is that the public cloud API could not access our private cloud, so we created a cloud connector. This allows our clients to use the public cloud to consume our services, which are established on the private cloud.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of this solution is the content modifier. These are the mapping features that allow us to create cloud connectors. The content modifier also allows us to perform data conversions, encryption, and decryption within the cloud.
We also use mapping transformation and message transformation. The mapping transformation allows us to connect our on-premise ECC to the cloud system.
What needs improvement?
We would like the ability to create our own flexible data type, directly in the system. This is functionality that is available in the older, on-premises version, but not available on the cloud platform. Our current workaround is to create the definition and import those features. If this functionality were available directly then it would be a big plus because as it is now, it requires a lot of effort.
Better connectivity to on-premise systems would help us to support older systems that are migrating to the cloud. This would give us more confidence in telling clients with old legacy systems that SAP has the capability to handle their landscape.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the Cloud Platform for three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I believe that this solution is stable. We have not faced any issues, and apart from that, SAP will release updates to fix bugs and add new features on a quarterly basis. They're continuously updating the cloud system. Stability and security are not things that we are worried about.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not had the chance to directly connect to the technical team for the cloud system. However, I have interacted with SAP for on-premise issues and notes. They have their own SLA and they're very good at it. I always get good support from the SAP team.
Based on my experience, I believe support will be good for the cloud system, as well.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to using the cloud platform, I had used the on-premise SAP integration solution for almost five years. I have also used other solutions to integrate with SuccessFactors.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of this solution is straightforward. The only thing to make sure of is access. A few tasks, such as creating a server account and creating a database connection, are necessary but straightforward to do. It does not require an expert, as long as the authorization is given.
Once the initial setup is complete, the deployment to the cloud is very fast. In a few seconds, we can deploy this service and start posting.
The number of people required to deploy and maintain this solution depends on the landscape and the number of interfaces. In the case of our client, where we have thirteen or fourteen interfaces, two people are sufficient. This could change based on the criticality and time that we are allowed.
What about the implementation team?
We have deployed this solution to two tenants. One is a training tenant, and another is a client tenant. The latter is where we are doing the POCs, and we have a dedicated team that has all of the authorizations.
For the training tenant, we have performed all of the activity. I have access to the SAP Cloud Cockpit, where we can create our own subtenants and you can use SAP Neo to create our Java services. Normally, however, we don't perform these types of tasks in real-time. They are done in the send-off systems.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing costs for this solution are based on the number of users and the bandwidth.
SAP is more expensive than other solutions, but they have total prepackaged content for ERP. They have a vast module, and a good hold on the complete ERP. It's not cheaper, but I believe that it is the best in the market in terms of ERP.
What other advice do I have?
When you are using an on-premises version, you need to spend money on the dedicated infrastructure, licensing costs, maintenance, support, etc. In a cloud system, SAP Cloud Platform provides a solution where the licensing costs are based on the number of users and the bandwidth. You don't have to spend time and money on infrastructure or maintenance. The best part about using the cloud solution is that if there is any kind of memory issue in your production system then you can immediately extend your memory at the time.
For an enterprise that has the proper integration within their ERP systems, I definitely recommend this solution. If the majority of their business is on cloud systems then I suggest SAP Cloud. However, if most of the business is on-premises then they may not want to go with the cloud version. There are many issues with connecting a VPN between the cloud and an on-premises system. So, it depends on the landscape. Overall, I would definitely recommend going with a cloud system.
The biggest lesson that I have learned from using this solution is that SAP has been able to save us a great deal of time. They know about businesses and provided us with most of the business scenarios. Suppose, for example, that I need to do an implementation for a client. They provide solutions that I simply have to import to provide the client with an efficient system, and can then be customized based on their requirement. It saves a great deal of development effort.
This is a good solution, but I would like to see more flexibility to connect to the on-premises systems. There are older systems that are being moved from on-premises to cloud, but they have years of data and sometimes there are problems. Supporting these systems is difficult, and better connectivity would help us perform better support.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Senior Services Architect at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
User-friendly with good clarity provided on the dashboard
Pros and Cons
- "The dashboard provides pretty good clarity."
- "Lacks flexibility in its licensing structure."
What is our primary use case?
The use case of this product varies according to the customer's needs, but we generally implement it when a customer is looking for a complete SaaS-based model without the need for infrastructure. It saves them from having to take care of any facilities including a data center, redundancy layers, and administration. We are resellers and I'm a service architect.
What is most valuable?
The dashboard gives pretty good clarity of what's happening and what needs to be done.
What needs improvement?
SAP offers very little flexibility in its licensing structure. That said, most of our customers are okay with the price points and we have closed about 50 mid-sized customers with SAP Cloud Platform.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is an SaaS based model, so scalability is fine.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. In terms of maintenance, we operate on a model of shared services so there is no set number of people involved. It changes depending on the need.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing costs are reasonable and based on the space you're purchasing. There is an annual license fee.
What other advice do I have?
There are several companies with products in this area and each one has its own unique structure and features, so it's difficult to compare them. It's a matter of choosing the one best suited to your needs.
I rate this solution eight out of 10.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: Partner / Integrator
Senior Consultant at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Good reporting and analysis, integrates well with other tools, and has good technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is integration."
- "In the next release, I would like to see improvements with the price and the licensing."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is basically for reporting and analysis. We publish our internal data for our clients and also for our management team.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is integration. The integration with multiple other tools and our data allows us to perform analytics and our reporting requirements.
What needs improvement?
One thing that can be improved is the way the license is set up. If it could be defined by specific types of users then it would be better. For example, if it could be divided into three different sections, one for management who don't require the analytic work, it could be more for viewing. Another could be for the design department, which would require more specific tools, and finally, developers for the architecture. Different types of licenses would be very good.
In the next release, I would like to see improvements with the price and the licensing. We are struggling with our vendors to find out who did the tool implementation.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for eight months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. We have experienced some issues but that was a problem with our internet, causing the server to go down, and it had nothing to do with the product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have no issues with the scalability of this solution.
We have 100 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate my experience with technical support a four out of five.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not easy, nor would I say that it was difficult to execute.
What other advice do I have?
I have yet to explore all of the features.
I would suggest completing a POC before purchasing this solution, or any other solution. Then, going ahead with it once the requirements have been satisfied.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
