It's an awesome replacement for Insight Manager and Virtual Connect Manager.

OneView is a large platform, so asking me, "What are the benefits of OneView," Well, how much time do you have?

I think one of them has to be a single place to login to configure everything at a particular site, instead of logging into Virtual Connect and iLO and Onboard Administrator multiple times a day, you login once to OneView and single-sign on to all your work for the rest of the day.

I'm using this solution for Windows and Linux servers, backup servers, and Oracle database servers.

We're using a mix of two versions. We have version 7 and version 6.60.

The solution is deployed on-premises.

There are currently six people using this solution in my organization. We currently don't have plans to increase usage.

I mostly use HPE OneView with the service pack for ProLiant updates. It's nice that we don't have to go in and do this work on-site. The ability to connect to iLO from OneView is pretty handy.

OneView is a single pane of glass. It's getting everything managed and structured for us. We still use HPE SAN and IRS and all of those things. But now, OneView is kind of bringing that all together. We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features.

The improvement has been speed. It takes away some of the time we spend working on redundant tasks that you have to do all across the environment that you can do in OneView and then you can push it out across the whole OneView environment. It allows our engineers to work on things of higher value than just setting up the environment.

We use the solution to manage the server. Also, we have a server profile. Storage pools are there with logical enclosures. Enclosures are there, volumes are there, switches are there, firewall compliance is there, networking, et cetera. Everything is there. We have a general overview of everything we need in one place. 

We like that we can manage all servers from a single frame. 

The initial setup is easy.

The solution has a lot of use cases. The solution is used for implementation and configuration for all devices, creating all structure, and infrastructure configurations, like logical, interconnected groups, enclosure groups, and also, the device connection. The solution is also used for production troubleshooting or change, certificate, and authentication, If you set the infra, you install everything in one shot. You just need to implement devices like Blade or compute notes in Synergy. 

The most valuable features are the composable structure, infrastructure, and automation. The automation allows a complete implementation of a server with an operating system from start to finish by providing playbooks using the Rest API, and codes, from Ansible and using them towards the solution. The composable infrastructure allows you to move a profile, create a new network and have everything in one place.

We deploy this system so our customers can deploy it to the cloud. I'm involved in research, deployment and operating systems. 

HPE provides the strongest support for automation which is very important in the cloud environment.

I've been working with OneView off-and-on for about five and a half years, first on the operations side, mostly managing hardware and maintaining it. More recently, I've been spending more time on the engineering side, making sure that we're building stuff, seeing what we can do as far as automating, and getting all of our profiles more generalized so that there are fewer questions about what a particular piece of hardware has.

From the engineering side, we're seeing some nice benefits from just being able to pull everything in and configure it without having to spend time running down to the data center, spend time rebooting anything. We can make our configuration changes and then, a month later, when everything goes through reboots, it just picks it up. So we can plan this stuff out a lot more carefully and more cleanly.

The automation capabilities are the most valuable. I don't have to use CD-ROMs or anything like that to provision the servers. Plug in a server and give it a profile. The whole thing is automated.

It saves us a lot of time. Time is money. We mess around with servers all day. So, it's a huge time saver. It also helps us track our inventory better in terms of where things are. With one of these you can actually plan out your whole data center. Build out where the server physically is, and historically we've had trouble with that sometimes. People would ask, "Oh, where is server XYZ?" We had to look it up on a spreadsheet or some data base. Sometimes that's not always accurate. We were sort of roaming around the data center trying to find the server. So, this is just pretty cool.
