Bot Manager and different features to manage threats
As a product, it has good capabilities, including professional support. However, it's risky for us to rely on AI for real-time traffic management. We use in-house analytics but avoid automatic actions due to their high impact. For example, I live in a developing country. Everyone has different types of phones, apps, and everything else. So, if someone is using a legacy phone, that is still a use case here. If AI decides that this is an end-of-life phone or end-of-life Android operating system, it starts blocking that traffic. We may potentially lose millions or probably thousands and hundreds of thousands of hits per second. Everything is all about how well we serve payments because we're into payments. So, AI is used for analytics but not for real-time decisions. We can't afford to block traffic based on AI models due to the variety of devices and operating systems our users have.

High stability with built-in rules that reduce alerts and are easy to configure
Our company uses the solution to publish services that are on Azure. There is more than one way to publish services.  You can use the Microsoft infrastructure for app services including small programming, configurations related to obligations, and publishing. Or you can publish manually by using…

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The CDN and the WAF features are the best."
"It is scalable for DDoS."
"The features are powerful and better than F5."
"They have a fantastic tool for analyzing and viewing your traffic."
"The product is user-friendly."
"The product has a good UI."
"The most valuable feature is the custom rules feature. This is because many of our customers require a lot of custom rules. Because it's a very customized project for our customers, I think they have the best of everything already."
"Adaptive stream delivery and WAF protection are valuable."
"It has a filter available, although we are not currently using it because it is not part of our requirements. But it is a good option and when it becomes part of our requirements we will definitely use it."
"I rate Microsoft Azure Application Gateway's scalability a ten out of ten. My company has more than 1000 users who use it daily."
"I find Application Gateway’s WAF module valuable because it helps prevent layer 7 attacks."
"Microsoft Azure Application Gateway is an easy-to-use solution."
"WAF feature replicates the firewall."
"The solution's integration is very good."
"Using policies to link and manage these URL-based routing configurations is also valuable."
"The health probe is pretty good for your backend health. It tells you whether it's communicating and talking to the endpoint correctly. It is quite useful."

Cons

"Akamai needs to focus on quickly responding to risks, even those that may potentially be of zero threat..Maybe some of the documentation is a little confusing. They have a lot of different places where you can go to get information, and some of the information is quite out of date."
"Akamai App and API Protector is very new to me, so I do not have any insights on improvement areas for the product. However, when we ask for some help, it can take some time. We understand that the job is done by professionals, but if that time can be reduced, it would be great."
"Customer support has room for improvement."
"We are experimenting with EdgeWorkers to write our own code at the Edge level. It could grow to be much better."
"Could integrate more features for each security."
"The solution could offer even more integrations."
"The interface is a little bit clunky and can be improved."
"The performance of the cloud monitoring tool is low."
"Microsoft Azure Application Gateway is not scalable."
"It does not have the flexibility for using public IPs in version 2."
"Microsoft needs to work on their documentation."
"For the first-time user, it is difficult to understand so the user-interface needs to be improved."
"Application Gateway’s limitation is that the private and the public endpoint cannot use the same port."
"It could be more stable, and support could be better. It would also be better if they offered more features. For example, it lacks security features. Before we used another English solution, and we realized that some of the rules were not set up correctly and passed through the Application Gateway's English controllers. But the problem, in this case, is if you send ten rules, for example, six rules hit some issues. IP address blocking could be better. The rules, for example, don't work properly. If you have one issue, one rule or another rule will not work. This sounds like total madness to me."
"We faced some downtime while validating CNAME."
"The solution is easy to use overall, but the dashboard could be updated with a better layout and graphical design so that we can see the data a bit easier. Microsoft could also add more documentation. The documentation Microsoft provides doesn't tell us about resource requirements. We found that the instances we had weren't sufficient to support the firewall, so we had to increase them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The product is expensive, but it is worth the money."
"The solution is not expensive."
"Based on the billing discussions in the DevOps team, Akamai's cost does not seem to be a major thing. However, LOE is an issue. When it comes to support, we know that even all the competitors do this. For a 30-minute issue, they give us a LOE of one or two hours. That is a basic practice, but that is something we worry about."
"The product’s price is high."
"It's more expensive than others, but the ROI is good for large-scale infrastructure."
"The price they are offering is quite reasonable for premium customers, but it's very expensive if you're a small and medium-sized enterprises."
"Akamai Web Application Protector is an expensive product."
"It is not expensive."
"The cost is not an issue."
"I rate the price of Microsoft Azure Application Gateway an eight out of ten."
"Regarding pricing for Azure Application Gateway, I would rate it at seven."
"The solution is paid monthly. The solution is highly expensive."
"The tool's pricing model is pay-as-you-go."
"The solution is reasonably priced compared to other solutions."
"The price of the solution can be reduced a bit."
