Centralized device management has transformed security and streamlined remote provisioning
One area where Microsoft Intune can improve is the user interface. Sometimes the portal feels a bit complex and not very intuitive, especially for new users, and it can take time to find specific settings. Another point is troubleshooting. While logs are available, the diagnostic policies and sync issues can still be time-consuming and not very straightforward. I also feel that reporting could be more detailed and customizable. The built-in reports are helpful, but for deeper insights, I often need to rely on additional tools. Overall, it is a strong solution, but improving usability and troubleshooting experience would make it even better. While Microsoft Intune works very well within the Microsoft ecosystem, the integration of some third-party tools could be smoother and require less customization. Support is another area that could improve, as sometimes response times can be slow, and resolving complex issues may take longer than expected. In terms of features, I think more advanced automation and built-in remediation options would be helpful since common issues can be fixed automatically without manual intervention.

Cloud configuration has transformed our backups and user access while it reduces infrastructure costs
I consider carrying out all the configuration to be the best feature that AWS Config offers. The advantages include the manuals, though there are some things that are very detailed, which is a lot of information. I find the documentation for the configuration part especially useful, as it really supports us in bringing up our instances, generating automatic backups, and allowing us to grant certain information or a certain level of access to certain users.

BigFix supports something known as Patch Policies, which allows users to define that whenever critical patches are released, they should get evaluated against machines and automatically deploy them. Their software distribution is very efficient because they use a pull mechanism rather than a push mechanism, allowing each machine to download from the closest repository and install themselves. The same assessment mechanism applies for real-time vulnerability remediation, allowing identification, evaluation, and automatic remediation across machines. Compliance metrics typically measure the patch percentages deployed against the number of endpoints, which could be various device types including virtual machines and mobile devices. Measurements are taken against each device type, looking into compliance percentages for browsers such as Chrome and Edge based on their versions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I haven't used other mobile device management solutions, but compared to SCCM, we eliminate a lot of on-premises infrastructure and maintenance by using Intune."
"The navigation, the keys, and the settings are easy to find. It is easy to understand."
"The best features in Microsoft Intune that I appreciate the most are the strong security, encryption, and operating system version."
"EAM is a godsend."
"It is very stable and scalable because this is a cloud-only solution."
"The technical support of Microsoft Intune is good."
"Autopilot is a feature I really like."
"Intune saves time, and it is very easy to use. It allows us to manage applications completely."
"The initial setup is super easy, it takes like two minutes. Literally a one-click deployment."
"AWS Config has positively impacted my organization, and this is very useful for us since we use the entire cloud platform and our infrastructure is now at the cloud level."
"The tracking, history logs, and security alert features are valuable because they are critical features that assist us."
"Installing the instances and performing upgrades is smooth and clean."
"The scalability is a ten out of ten."
"AWS Config's dashboard improved our company's security as it helps with the vulnerability scanning of resources."
"The solution is scalable and provides over 100 rules."
"The tool protects its users' resources and data from unauthorized access, security breaches, and threats."
"From a security standpoint, it allows us to make sure that we're not leaving ourselves vulnerable to exploits and things like that."
"One of the biggest benefits BigFix has had for our organization is the ease and efficiency to perform many different tasks, across pillars and platforms, all from one pane of glass."
"BigFix is a stable solution; you can deploy it and forget about it."
"We did a proof of concept, looked at the other competitors and after scaling all of them on a matrix, IBM ended up being the best option for us."
"BigFix is a great product; the flexibility of putting together your own relevance and retrieving custom data from any one of your agents is a valuable feature."
"Switching to BigFix has alleviated that to a great degree and is now allowing our company to think ahead about how we can incorporate other pieces of BigFix that other solutions don't have integrated natively, so we can get five or six product sets out of BigFix as opposed to just a single product set on a solution that didn't even work to begin with."
"Pre-packaged support for many third-party applications such as Adobe, Google, Mozilla, Sun (Java), WinZip, and others."
"Now, the process is centrally controlled, reported, and has an independently formed location (also over Internet)."

Cons

"Microsoft Intune could improve its reporting and troubleshooting tools since diagnosing policy sync and deployment issues can still feel a bit complicated at times."
"We would like to see the ability to use multiple personas on a device, similar to Samsung Knox, included in future updates."
"The mobile management is good for iPhone and iPad, but the Apple Mac management needs improvement. That is probably because Microsoft does not have low-level access to Apple Mac hardware. If you are doing basic things, it is okay, but if you want to image Apple Macs and do things like that, then Jamf is much better."
"The time we have to wait to deploy policies has room for improvement."
"The installation is very easy. However, to be able to configure it you will need special knowledge, such as training or self-studies to have a proper level of security."
"However, I dislike how it lags sometimes. I cannot work on multiple processes at the same time."
"Onboarding of endpoint devices is not straightforward. The onboarding process was a little heavier than I thought it would be. That's the key improvement area. Obviously, the more control you have over the devices, the better it is."
"It would be awesome if Microsoft opened their API so we could filter more properties. If we have to do anything outside of Intune that requires a third-party solution to talk back to it, we're very limited in what we can do."
"The solution is missing a configuration that can assist us when writing our programming languages."
"The reboot process for AWS instances could be improved. Microsoft Azure does not have this problem, so AWS could consider making their instances more robust. You would not need to reboot your instances frequently to replace the hardware and stuff. They can look for a better approach or mechanism to improve in the future. The concern is that you need to plan for the outage when you reboot an instance. You need to have a maintenance window where you can properly reboot the instance without affecting your application. When Amazon announces that you need to reboot an instance and are not ready, this becomes a problem."
"The solution is missing a configuration that can assist us when writing our programming languages."
"Improvements are needed as per customer requirements."
"There is room for improvement in built-in tools, they are not up to the mark."
"AWS Config could be improved if they could generate some training as support because it is a gigantic platform with many solutions and a lot of information, which would help us significantly."
"The new EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) feature, Detect, is new and still needs a few updates."
"The relevant language takes a little getting used to since it's not used anywhere else in the industry."
"The console interface is not friendly, and requires training before using it in production."
"There is some complexity, a learning curve, but overall it's a great product."
"IBM has not focused on the Web Reports capabilities."
"I would like better support on the backend."
"Maybe the online help could be improved. It'd be nice if you would have a lot more phrases and keywords that you could search for and find answers with the help."
"I remember doing restarts a few times. So, making sure that it is rock solid from an executable perspective is important."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I recently got to know that the AD P1 license is compulsory to use Intune Autopilot, which was surprising for me. Earlier, this was not the case. It is the wrong thing to do. We now need to purchase AD P1 licenses for us and for our customers. I would rate it a seven out of ten for pricing."
"Any bundle package, such as Security E3, covers multiple things, such as AAP, BitLocker, etc. If you go for them individually, they would be more expensive. Bundling makes the price more attractive and competitive."
"We are partners, so we receive some discount. However, from the customer's perspective, Microsoft Intune's pricing is competitive with non-Microsoft technology, and the price is good compared to other market competitors."
"Microsoft Intune is a cost effective choice. It is less expensive than other products on the market."
"The cost is somewhat on the higher side, particularly when considering certain price points, especially in markets like India."
"Microsoft Intune costs about $7 per user per month, which is somewhat on the pricier end. That said, it's a reliable product, so it's fair."
"Consider the Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite rather than choosing specific sub-components, e.g. only Microsoft Intune."
"Intune is inexpensive. It also comes bundled in some Office 365 licenses, so you can choose to purchase it separately or as a package."
"The solution charges us per hour. There's no license."
"It is a very expensive tool. AWS pricing for Config is not fixed and depends on your organization's size and complexity."
"It might be about $23 a client."
"The price is very fair."
"There's not much big cost. We only have to pay the agents' cost for the server, and for the systems."
"You get what we call the Platform Edition, which you get for free. The patch service is maybe $0.50 per workstation per month. Then there's the basic server cost, which is about $1.50 per server per month. You also get into Lifecycle which does power management, OSD remote control, and those types of things, and that might be about 10 times the price - which works out to about $13 per server and, maybe $5 per workstation per month."
"Its price is very reasonable."
"The price is reasonable, but our customers find it expensive."
"The price of BigFix is better than the solutions. You are able to pay monthly or annually. There are not any hidden costs with BigFix. There is an additional cost for the SQL database."
"We have a subscription-based contract with BigFix."
