Consistent security and efficiency improvements optimize IT infrastructure with effective management
When creating AWS Secrets Manager, it should be automated using tools such as Terraform, Puppet, or Ansible. With Terraform code, you specify the encryption key, secret name, rotation policy, and secret replication. Human error occurs when feeding secret values manually, especially with large amounts of secrets to input. Secrets should never be protected only by IAM. They should be protected by multiple layers, such as IAM and one or two KMS keys. Additional security measures could be beneficial if necessary. The rotation policy is crucial because some secrets may become obsolete, require updates, or get compromised. With a weekly rotation policy, if unauthorized access occurs, the exposure is limited to seven days. The rotation policy can be customized according to needs.

Has improved credential security with remote password change and role-based access
I have not faced any significant issues with Delinea Secret Server during this period of time, but we had a problem with a web password filler, which is a template used for accessing a web URL using Secret Server, where we faced some session management issues since session management is not applicable for the web password filler. This should be the improvement that we require from Delinea Secret Server. The session management is not applicable in this case; we can manage the session and have session management inside the remote systems within the organization. However, when it comes to web-related access, we can access directly through Delinea Secret Server. We can access any URL through Secret Server, but the problem is that the session cannot be managed on the web URL due to it having multiple systems. I do not have any other recommendations regarding the improvement of Delinea Secret Server at this time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's highly scalable, so I'd rate it a ten out of ten."
"Secrets Manager helps in retrieving the enrollment variables used by the code."
"In summary, this is a good product and well suits our needs."
"All our workloads are running on AWS, so integration with our workload is much easier on AWS Secrets Manager than going with another solution such as Thycotic."
"Overall, this is a good product, we are satisfied with the support, and I recommend it."
"AWS Secrets Manager is used for storing secret information that has to be a secret from your customer and your employees."
"I would recommend everyone to use AWS Secrets Manager for their security and for storing their passwords, because I see that passwords nowadays are easily compromised."
"Integrating with other services was straightforward, especially within the AWS environment."
"This is a product that I would recommend."
"Before this solution, people had their own passwords stored in different areas and when something was needed we could not find the right person that had the right password, which meant quite a lot in migration scenarios, but with this solution, everyone knew what tools to use and where to put the password and who gives access to that password and then we could have reports on who has access to different passwords so that we could do audits."
"The tool has many models. The tool also has a good cloud version. Also, the customers need not control any components on the solution side. The product's licensing model is also good since customers can choose a price that is most useful for them. The solution also supports password management for the users in your organization."
"In general, I would recommend the product; it's very good and is cheaper than CyberArk."
"In the end, the cost, features, and ease of deployment simply beat the competition."
"The user interface is quite good. It's very straightforward."
"The ease of granting access to a secret without having to share the actual password and the password rotation were the main features I found effective for password management."
"Its most valuable feature is its main purpose - the password changing and the Heartbeat so the user has access to only their SVN and does not have access to any other. Thycotic's access privileged management tool allows you to grant access to users for a specific period of time and with specific attributes and privileges."

Cons

"If you don't have enterprise support, then you will not be able to get through to them to get the help. It is not only applicable to AWS Secrets Manager. It is also applicable to any service on AWS."
"The price of the solution could improve."
"If you add one more layer of security to AWS Secrets Manager, even the programmer will not be able to see the secrets."
"There is room for improvement in terms of integrating with certain other platforms."
"An area for improvement in AWS Secrets Manager could be expanding integration options beyond AWS services."
"We occasionally have problems with rate limits, although that is a problem more generally with AWS."
"If you don't have enterprise support, then you will not be able to get through to them to get the help."
"It would be good if the AWS Secrets Manager were more customizable."
"I rate customer service and support a zero out of ten. We reached out to them to solve an issue, and they hung up on us."
"The initial setup and deployment can be cumbersome. It's not an easy process."
"We find the documentation hard to understand."
"There could be tweaks here and there. For example, instead of going to one main function to do this and another main function to do that, the solution could remap the user interface so that a person only has to go through one function. The way that function branches off should make a bit more sense."
"In terms of what could be improved, the whole thing with distributed engines, et cetera, is a little bit tricky."
"I don't know what kind of a cryptographic it uses to encrypt the password but it should be one of the stronger ones."
"Although the password policy was interesting, the default setting was inadequate."
"Documentation could be improved if they were to include more about connectors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We purchase a monthly license for the product."
"The cost is somewhat high."
"I don't believe there is a license cost for the solution."
"The solution is expensive."
"We've observed that AWS Secrets Manager pricing is based on a per-secret-per-month model. As a result, we prefer to divide our secrets into individual pieces to increase security and grant specific access permissions to certain secrets, systems, or individuals. However, this approach results in higher costs. Therefore, we have been exploring ways to combine our secrets into groups to reduce expenses and simplify management. Nonetheless, we acknowledge that this issue may not be related to the secret manager's functionality."
"There is an annual license fee per user and the price is fair."
"When comparing the price of Thycotic Secret Server with other solutions it is reasonable."
"I would give the price a four on a scale from one to ten, with one being the cheapest and ten being the most expensive. We pay for the license on a yearly basis, and we paid for three years. It costs around 5000 a year."
"They are priced quite well."
"It is very expensive, and its price should be lower."
"The solution is low-cost than other vendors."
"We have an enterprise license as well as a user license and a support license."
"In the Nigerian market, the adoption of Delinea depends largely on an organization's budget. If they have the financial capacity, they might consider Delinea as a viable option."
