Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We were looking for a robust solution that gives us scalability and recovery."
"The ease of use and the GUI have really been most valuable to us. Configuring the system to do what we need is simple and straight forward and a lot of guesswork has been removed. One of my favorite features with Cohesity is Kroll for Exchange item-level recovery. The software is simple to use and fast."
"No longer does it take several hours to backup a VM or troubleshoot a backup issue."
"Old backup solution: Full restore of mission critical systems took around one day. Cohesity does this process in under one hour."
"The solution's SQL cloning is great, and its Instant Mount restoration of virtual machines is brilliant."
"Backups are now much faster and restores are much faster, which is a huge improvement over the previous platform."
"The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing."
"We were able to eliminate tape backups by utilizing Cohesity to backup our VMs, replicate the backup data to a second offsite Cohesity cluster, and replace our older legacy NAS devices, which greatly simplified our environment and provided a substantial increase in speed."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."
"We are always satisfied with technical support."
"It is a stable solution."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager."
"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."
"I love Veeam because it is very easy to work with."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."

Cons

"The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs."
"We are waiting on the AIX agent to be released."
"Support is good, but some functions are added pretty late, like vCloud Director support."
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."
"Cannot exclude certain drives from VMs."
"For the support, I can provide a rating of four only because they initially provide some steps, but later say they are not sure, which is a problem in a production environment."
"Faster backup and restores, reduced costs of backups."
"Quality testing of upgrades should be somewhat improved."
"Interface could possibly be improved."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature."
"The backups can go slow."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is monthly licensing."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. It is cheaper than other backup solutions."
"My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
"The pricing is good."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
