Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot."
"Cohesity DataProtect is easily manageable, and you can see every option from the user interface."
"How do you use Cohesity DataProtect to streamline data backup and recovery in your organization? How do you and your clients use AI to improve data?"
"Within the system, we have rule-based access control, single sign-on, multifactor authentication, and basic identity and access management features."
"A robust, verifiable backup with a restore solution, which decreases our backup and has a restore window."
"The SQL Backup and Restore is very easy."
"It makes our administrators' lives much easier to combine backup, archiving, and services like hosting file shares in one central system with only one user interface."
"The most valuable feature is ease of use."
"So far, I've found the solution to be easy to use; it's fast and reliable as well, and I can access whatever I need on very short notice."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."
"We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
"The solution has a replication feature that allows us to do the VR, and it's very good, and the user interface is good and provides a lot of information."
"Overall, we are pretty happy with this product."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows's most useful features is the ease of use and user-friendly."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."

Cons

"Better documentation is needed because the lack of information has necessitated having our team depend more heavily on Cohesity support."
"There were a few things that required quick support calls in order to get to function correctly."
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."
"Microsoft Exchange online mailbox backups would be fantastic."
"A little more documentation on standard faults would help, as new features are being released quite often."
"For the support, I can provide a rating of four only because they initially provide some steps, but later say they are not sure, which is a problem in a production environment."
"We have Oracle databases running on Linux servers in our environment and we have found the Oracle backups were quite complex to setup."
"Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs."
"Interface could possibly be improved."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"The problems that we were experiencing using this solution led us to switch to Commvault."
"The compression ratio and application ratio could still be improved in this solution. Reporting could also be improved, for better monitoring."
"I would like there to be more integration with other platforms."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"The pricing is good."
