Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is also very easy to determine which VMs are being backed up and which ones aren't. This is helpful to make sure nothing is being missed."
"The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads."
"The absolutely top feature is the easy and fast backup and restore of VMs, which extremely reduces the effort in daily backup and restore tasks, leading to no more effort for administration of a complex backed up and restored infrastructure."
"The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor."
"We see that one part of the market really likes the Commvault features and functionality, but there is another part in the Dutch market that says, "I don't want all that complexity, I just want it set and go," and that's when we're positioning Cohesity."
"It has mainly given us peace of mind knowing that our backups are going to work, and we will be able to easily restore our data, if needed."
"Cohesity has very simple reports to help you stay in the know of which servers are being backed up or not."
"We were able to eliminate tape backups by utilizing Cohesity to backup our VMs, replicate the backup data to a second offsite Cohesity cluster, and replace our older legacy NAS devices, which greatly simplified our environment and provided a substantial increase in speed."
"It is easy to deploy."
"I don't have any major problems with the agent connectivity with Microsoft applications or Microsoft Azure."
"We have been very happy with the solution so far and would definitely recommend the product to other users, companies, and organizations."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager."
"I love Veeam because it is very easy to work with."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"Technical support is good. They're very responsive. It depends on the timezone responding, but I usually get a response within three hours of creating a ticket."
"It is a stable solution."

Cons

"Reducing storage capacity requirements and improving security features are also areas that could be enhanced."
"DataProtect's recovery time is too high. It takes a long time to recover things from the cloud."
"The marketplace app stability is still an issue at times."
"There is room for improvement in terms of price."
"For the support, I can provide a rating of four only because they initially provide some steps, but later say they are not sure, which is a problem in a production environment."
"We have encountered a few cluster crashes because of indexing on XFS file systems this should be fixed in 6.1.0"
"Cannot exclude certain drives from VMs."
"We are waiting on the AIX agent to be released."
"We went from a 30 second RTO to a 2-3 hour RTO."
"The only thing that's not as good with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is the compression ratio and the application ratio."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"They should improve the solution's automation features."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"The backups can go slow."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"We have an annual license."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
