Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cohesity's web-scale architecture enables us to scale up as needed."
"The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor."
"Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files."
"The backup and restore solution is a big step forward from our last solution and packs more than just backup in a box, allowing for additional features such as Disaster Recovery and utilising the space available in the cluster for storing files."
"The recovery process is effective, especially when it comes to other types of data, such as VMs, and overall, the performance is commendable."
"We like that we can use production data to run intensive reports that would otherwise bog down the production server."
"Cohesity DataProtect is a reliable solution for performing backups within a suitable timeframe, and its forever incremental model is particularly effective for the customer's needs. Additionally, the solution handles instant recovery and file-level recovery from a VMware image backup seamlessly."
"Cohesity DataProtect is easy to deploy and operate."
"The solution is very stable."
"So far, I've found the solution to be easy to use; it's fast and reliable as well, and I can access whatever I need on very short notice."
"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"In general, it's worked like a charm; it's helped me do backups and restores and it has never failed me in that perspective, except for the ASM disk issues."
"The product is free to use. We don't have to pay for a license."
"It is a stable solution."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."

Cons

"Better cluster support."
"In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line."
"If someone were to change an admin account password, I would like an alert raised for that, which is not available at the moment."
"I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it."
"Support is good, but some functions are added pretty late, like vCloud Director support."
"The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs."
"In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity."
"There is room for improvement in terms of price."
"A lower price would always be beneficial."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"The scalability is not very good - especially when I want to backup Microsoft Windows."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"The only things that I can think of where Veeam can improve are in very small details."
"We went from a 30 second RTO to a 2-3 hour RTO."
"The compression ratio and application ratio could still be improved in this solution. Reporting could also be improved, for better monitoring."
"Updating sometimes gives us a problem by taking too long or causing other problems."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
"Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
"The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"We have an annual license."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
