Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We removed multiple backup systems and replaced with Cohesity."
"The solution is stable."
"Cohesity is a cost-effective storage designed for secondary or archival data. It also integrates well with a number of other systems, like VMware, Pure Storage, or AWS with its large array of APIs available to the user."
"Since deploying Cohesity we've been able to help our end-users get their data back quicker than ever."
"The ease of use and the GUI have really been most valuable to us. Configuring the system to do what we need is simple and straight forward and a lot of guesswork has been removed. One of my favorite features with Cohesity is Kroll for Exchange item-level recovery. The software is simple to use and fast."
"It's completely reliable and easy to restore."
"This solution has given us a three-fold performance increase."
"With the ability to stage an entire lifecycle through versioning, integrated with AWS, it has made it possible to protect our corporation from end to end."
"This solution has got all of the functionality that I need in order to work with it."
"This solution is very compatible with the virtual environment, application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"In general, it's worked like a charm; it's helped me do backups and restores and it has never failed me in that perspective, except for the ASM disk issues."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment, the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager."

Cons

"The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs."
"Their documentation could be refined."
"Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs."
"The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome."
"We have Oracle databases running on Linux servers in our environment and we have found the Oracle backups were quite complex to setup."
"I would like to see Cohesity have the ability to do a file level restore from a Windows server, which is storing data on dynamic disk."
"The tool could benefit from further improvements in AI features, particularly in areas such as a generative AI chat interface. This feature could help answer queries about the data being protected. One feature that would greatly improve our experience with the product is the ability to identify data redundancies through a central console. This feature would help us reduce storage costs by managing redundant data."
"The product is still young and is continually improving."
"The support could be improved a lot, as it is currently non-existent."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"The only thing that's not as good with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is the compression ratio and the application ratio."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression."
"If you are doing an AIX backup then you have to use the CLI because it doesn't appear on the console, the way that Windows and Linux jobs do."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Interface could possibly be improved."
"There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
"Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"We have a license package."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
