Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"With instant DR failover using SiteContinuity, we are able to keep our files available no matter the situation."
"Instead of four different solutions for protecting VMs, physical servers, SQL, and NAS, we now have one solution with Cohesity that is lightning fast and has amazing features."
"The initial setup is easy."
"It is also very easy to determine which VMs are being backed up and which ones aren't. This is helpful to make sure nothing is being missed."
"A robust, verifiable backup with a restore solution, which decreases our backup and has a restore window."
"Integration with AWS has been invaluable to us."
"We like that we can use production data to run intensive reports that would otherwise bog down the production server."
"Cohesity has very simple reports to help you stay in the know of which servers are being backed up or not."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment. The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is a good investment; looking at the cost of using data and the cost of having the solution, it's quite good."
"The most valuable features are backup and restore. This solution is also easy to use."
"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."
"We are saving a lot of money on costs right now since we have implemented the solution and we are using the community version."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"It's straightforward to set up."
"The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product."

Cons

"This solution is only compatible with a limited number of storage arrays, including Pure and Cisco Hyperflex."
"The error handling could be improved."
"Better cluster support."
"We have Oracle databases running on Linux servers in our environment and we have found the Oracle backups were quite complex to setup."
"Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads."
"In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"I would say they could work on the update process of the nodes."
"There isn't really anything I would like to improve. Maybe the solution could be more secure."
"Some customers that are in the industrial sector are using legacy systems, systems that are very old and running on Windows 2000 or Windows NT, Windows 2003, and they're physical, they're not even virtual. Veeam here is pretty weak, as Veeam supports 2008 or Service Pack 1 and above."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows should improve by having more features, easier deployment, and compatibility with Unix boxes."
"The scalability is not very good - especially when I want to backup Microsoft Windows."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression."
"Some users might think the interface could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The pricing is good."
"We have a license package."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
