Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot."
"We are looking forward to the next release, so we can take advantage of the AHV backup for our Nutanix environment."
"Cohesity DataProtect is easily manageable, and you can see every option from the user interface."
"The initial setup is easy."
"It has absolutely improved our ROI as our incident tickets for backup have dropped by around a thousand per month after moving from Microsoft DPM to Cohesity."
"The product is easy to put in place, all backups are done very quickly, and it's easy to perform restores."
"We are saving valuable datacenter rack space, which is critical as we evaluate co-location options."
"It offers an easy, quick backup and restore of files and VMs. Also, the "Google-like " search for files is awesome."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"Stability is not an issue, it has been working pretty nicely."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."
"A full-featured option for managing virtual machines with an instant recovery feature."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."

Cons

"We found scaling Cohesity to be very challenging."
"It would be great to add SQL Object Level restore, so user objects, tables, etc. can be restored without having to restore the entire DB."
"Reporting is quite limited and not customizable."
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."
"They could always keep up with continuous interface refinements."
"Cohesity DataProtect needs to improve its reporting capabilities."
"We are waiting on the AIX agent to be released."
"Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"The scalability is not very good - especially when I want to backup Microsoft Windows."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"In the next release, I would like to see it easier to implement."
"I would like there to be more integration with other platforms."
"I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers."
"In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"The pricing is good."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"We have a license package."
