Adopting advanced convergence and seamless management elevates data protections
While there are improvements to be made, such as providing support for older systems like IBM iSeries and tandem systems from HP, the solution overall shifts from older methods to modern practices. Customers looking for features that older systems provided might find gaps, but these are typically for very specific needs.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We like that we can use production data to run intensive reports that would otherwise bog down the production server."
"Cohesity DataProtect is a reliable solution for performing backups within a suitable timeframe, and its forever incremental model is particularly effective for the customer's needs. Additionally, the solution handles instant recovery and file-level recovery from a VMware image backup seamlessly."
"The recovery process is effective, especially when it comes to other types of data, such as VMs, and overall, the performance is commendable."
"I would rate the stability a ten out of ten."
"The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing."
"Its flexibility is the most valuable. Being a cloud version, it has more flexibility, and it allows me to incorporate different workloads and consolidate all the data in one place. It has good high availability, and it is also easy to maintain."
"Within the system, we have rule-based access control, single sign-on, multifactor authentication, and basic identity and access management features."
"Cohesity DataProtect is user-friendly and straightforward. The setup process was effortless, and both the backup and restore operations are speedy."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"The user interface is good. It provides a lot of information."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"I don't have any major problems with the agent connectivity with Microsoft applications or Microsoft Azure."
"The solution is very affordable for small businesses."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"It is a stable solution."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."

Cons

"I would like to see Microsoft Exchange DAG supported as soon as possible."
"Initial setup can be complex if you need to change IP addresses. Hopefully, they improve that in a future release."
"Cohesity DataProtect needs to improve its reporting capabilities."
"They could always keep up with continuous interface refinements."
"At times, you may click the wrong server or click too fast and accidentally restore a cluster of servers. It would be very helpful to have a cancel option under restores."
"Non-cloud services need improvement."
"I would like to see Cohesity have the ability to do a file level restore from a Windows server, which is storing data on dynamic disk."
"The error handling could be improved."
"The backups can go slow."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting."
"While the Veeam agent is perfect, sometimes the agent doesn't install in Windows."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. Let's say you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"We have an annual license."
"The pricing is good."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
