Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are looking forward to the next release, so we can take advantage of the AHV backup for our Nutanix environment."
"Some of the most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect for me include instant mass restore, anomaly detection, and its ability to handle large data volumes effectively."
"A robust, verifiable backup with a restore solution, which decreases our backup and has a restore window."
"We are now easily managing the data from Helios for all the clusters centrally."
"The solution's SQL cloning is great, and its Instant Mount restoration of virtual machines is brilliant."
"We love the near-instant recovery windows, as well as the ability to sync our latest backups to Amazon Web Services for offsite DR."
"I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser."
"Cohesity customer service is the best that I have ever used, as they are extremely fast in responding to cases, fixed all issues, and answered every question in a very timely manner."
"When I compare Veeam with the storage manager from IBM or data protocol from HP or Exeter or some backups from Dell, Veeam is superior."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"Solution provides good security."
"Mostly, the solution offers very good peace of mind; we feel safe and secure and know that we are able to recover anything we need to."
"The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product, and the technical support is also very good."
"This solution has got all of the functionality that I need in order to work with it."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"So far, I've found the solution to be easy to use; it's fast and reliable as well, and I can access whatever I need on very short notice."

Cons

"Faster backup and restores, reduced costs of backups."
"Better support for legacy platforms would be nice, but we should be moving off those anyway."
"When a new release is launched, there may be some bugs that need to be addressed by the developers. However, they promptly resolve these issues, and the software runs smoothly once again."
"Add the ability to delete View Boxes and External Targets in the GUI."
"The solution's dashboard or UI can be enhanced and made more user-friendly than its competitors."
"It should have quicker restore times."
"I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter."
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows should improve by having more features, easier deployment, and compatibility with Unix boxes."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows as either a zero or a ten."
"I've found a lot of difficulties on the initial setup and especially in terms of credentials. We really need a Window OS. It doesn't like the domain admin account. it's a primary permission issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. It is cheaper than other backup solutions."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"The pricing is good."
"We have a license package."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
