Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It offers an easy, quick backup and restore of files and VMs. Also, the "Google-like " search for files is awesome."
"The dashboard is very rich and provides details needed for a moderator."
"Administratively, my staff is relieved at the ease of management and ongoing administration with Cohesity."
"Cohesity DataProtect is easily manageable, and you can see every option from the user interface."
"My advice to anyone considering Cohesity DataProtect is to try it out because the performance seems to exceed the competitors in the market."
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud, and all the data is automatically sent to the cloud."
"Considering the organization wouldn’t exist any longer without Cohesity, I would say it was worth it."
"The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads."
"The installation of Veeam Agent is straightforward."
"The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product."
"We have been very happy with the solution so far and would definitely recommend the product to other users, companies, and organizations."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"It is good and easy to use for backing up physical servers. It is working fine, and it is stable and scalable."
"The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."

Cons

"I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend."
"We have encountered a few cluster crashes because of indexing on XFS file systems this should be fixed in 6.1.0"
"There is limited support for legacy systems, which is something that could be improved."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"Better documentation is needed because the lack of information has necessitated having our team depend more heavily on Cohesity support."
"We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones."
"In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"Some customers that are in the industrial sector are using legacy systems, systems that are very old and running on Windows 2000 or Windows NT, Windows 2003, and they're physical, they're not even virtual. Veeam here is pretty weak, as Veeam supports 2008 or Service Pack 1 and above."
"If I'm trying to locate an item to restore from one of the backups, I would appreciate the ability to perform a global search on the catalog."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore."
"I would like there to be more integration with other platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"There is monthly licensing."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"We have an annual license."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
