Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The Cohesity views are valuable to us just because of the speed of the backup and recovery options — Cohesity VM backups are good for us."
"Cohesity DataProtect is a reliable solution for performing backups within a suitable timeframe, and its forever incremental model is particularly effective for the customer's needs. Additionally, the solution handles instant recovery and file-level recovery from a VMware image backup seamlessly."
"It offers an easy, quick backup and restore of files and VMs. Also, the "Google-like " search for files is awesome."
"My advice to anyone considering Cohesity DataProtect is to try it out because the performance seems to exceed the competitors in the market."
"While we're still new in the implementation, we are excited that we now have a single point of view for all of our backups."
"Integration with AWS has been invaluable to us."
"Fantastic product and the team developing it are top notch."
"Its most valuable feature is its ransomware protection, so it has immutable backups."
"We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"If you have windows machine at home and you'd like a backup, you can always download their free edition and plug in an external hard disk, and do a full backup of your laptop."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"The solution is very affordable for small businesses."
"The user interface is good. It provides a lot of information."
"It's powerful and user-friendly."

Cons

"In terms of what could be improved, their UI requires a manual refresh. It doesn't seem like it updates itself sometimes when you're moving from screens or waiting for a change to take effect, so you have to manually refresh."
"We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"The solution has a more complex setup than Veritas and Veeam."
"Initial setup can be complex if you need to change IP addresses. Hopefully, they improve that in a future release."
"Cohesity DataProtect needs to improve its reporting capabilities."
"Add the ability to delete View Boxes and External Targets in the GUI."
"Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"There isn't really anything I would like to improve. Maybe the solution could be more secure."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"I've found a lot of difficulties on the initial setup and especially in terms of credentials."
"The compression ratio and application ratio could still be improved in this solution. Reporting could also be improved, for better monitoring."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"I would like to have more flexibility in terms of reporting details about the backup."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"We have a license package."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have an annual license."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
