Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor."
"Cohesity has very simple reports to help you stay in the know of which servers are being backed up or not."
"I love the ability to clone a virtual server in only minutes."
"The solution is stable."
"While we're still new in the implementation, we are excited that we now have a single point of view for all of our backups."
"Cohesity DataProtect is a reliable solution for performing backups within a suitable timeframe, and its forever incremental model is particularly effective for the customer's needs. Additionally, the solution handles instant recovery and file-level recovery from a VMware image backup seamlessly."
"Compared to the products that we had earlier, Cohesity replaced our primary backup solution, runs VMs, and hosts all our backup mount points in our environment at a fraction of the cost."
"We are now easily managing the data from Helios for all the clusters centrally."
"The solution is very stable."
"The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"Technical support is good."
"Overall, we are pretty happy with this product."
"Mostly, the solution offers very good peace of mind; we feel safe and secure and know that we are able to recover anything we need to."
"It is easy to deploy."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."

Cons

"We are highly dissatisfied with the level of support and functionality provided for HANA within the Cohesity product."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"We have encountered a few cluster crashes because of indexing on XFS file systems this should be fixed in 6.1.0"
"Quality testing of upgrades should be somewhat improved."
"Support is good, but some functions are added pretty late, like vCloud Director support."
"We found scaling Cohesity to be very challenging."
"Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads."
"The support is pretty bad."
"A lower price would always be beneficial."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cohesity came in at the best price."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
"The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
"Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
"There is monthly licensing."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
