Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"It's powerful and user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered."
"The interface of this solution is quite good."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The solution is very affordable for small businesses."
"This is very user-friendly."
"It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable."
"The flexibility provided by Veeam Data Platform's hybrid deployment options is very simple, efficient, and user-friendly."
"Get only one interface to manage all backup sites, secure them with replication, and manage outside LTO media."
"Veeam Data Platform is valuable for its stability and the ability to easily contact support for assistance."
"The most valuable features I have found to be Instant Recovery, quick restore and rollback, and asynchronous copy. It is a complete solution for our needs."
"Replication Job base on a source HPE Catalyst store to perform a full reconstruction of our production systems on our third datacenter, which is our DRP Site."
"The most valuable aspects are the latest features in version 12.1, which introduced enhanced security features."

Cons

"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"We can't use tape for primary storage on Veeam."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"There isn't really anything I would like to improve. Maybe the solution could be more secure."
"The support could be improved a lot, as it is currently non-existent."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"The stability of this solution needs to be improved."
"Immutability could be improved."
"It needs to support more applications. In terms of supported applications, Oracle SQL and Office 365 are supported, but I am not sure if it supports Linux-based applications. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. I am currently testing Commvault. The advantage of Commvault is that a lot of applications are supported with it. I am not sure if CIFS is currently supported. It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported"
"Add an archive option to support legal obligations."
"They need full cloud integration such that an on-premises backup can be offloaded to the cloud for storage."
"The support, reporting part and customization should all be improved."
"Veeam Data Platform needs to improve data backup for Oracle admin. It needs to improve its stability."
"Veeam's biggest limitation is the lack of integration. I can't use the tool because there is no integration between the tool and the environment."
"The solution could improve by allowing the ability to do monitoring and traffic aggregation in the whole virtual network environment."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"The cost is expensive. It will depend on how you are managing your environment, your requirements, and if you can easily manage a license. It's not that difficult, so you can manage it, but the cost is high, so you need to check directly with Veeam as well as the local partner so you can get the discount prices."
"This product is not cheap, but it's well worth the cost."
"I have not used the resale license in our testing environments. Sometimes, our customers used the trial license for 30 days and so on."
"The price is pretty cheap for our market."
"The price of Veeam is much lower than the IBM solution."
"Pricing is not the cheapest, but you get a lot of value for your money."
"Veeam is quite expensive. There are no additional costs to the licensing fees. IBM Spectrum Protect is also expensive. They should improve its pricing. They raise the price every time there is an increase in the features of the product. They should think twice about that."
"Our licensing cost is $200 a year."
