Useful log aggregation and management with helpful metrics aggregation
Datadog provides us value in three major ways: First, Datadog provides best-in-class functionality in many, if not all, of the products to which we subscribe (infrastructure, APM, log management, serverless, synthetics, real user monitoring, DB monitoring). In my experience with other tools that provide similar functionality, Datadog provides the largest feature set with the most flexibility and the best performance. Second, Datadog allows us to access all of those services in one place. Having to learn and manage only one tool for all of those purposes is a major benefit. Third, Datadog provides significant connectivity between those services so that we can view, summarize, organize, translate and correlate our data with maximum effect. Not needing to manually integrate them to draw lines between those pieces of information is a huge time savings for us.

A highly commendable and robust solution offering powerful features and comprehensive log data management
It allows us to efficiently manage and store our data. Its compression and archiving features not only reduce storage costs but also minimize the infrastructure resources needed for data backup. Since we have multiple security solutions in place, it allows us to streamline data handling. We can selectively send security-related events to the SIEM while directing other non-security events from various tools to Falcon LogScale. This flexibility ensures that we have access to all the data we need when required, and we can easily export this data from it as necessary, optimizing our data management and making it readily available for analysis or other purposes.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The feature I've found most valuable is the log search feature."
"It has enhanced the performance of my team."
"It has a nice UI."
"The most valuable aspects of the solution include log search to help triage specific problems that we get notified about (whether by alerts we have configured or users that have contacted us)."
"The ingestion points are unlimited and support customization. We haven't had anything yet that we haven't been able to integrate with it."
"The most valuable features are logging, the extensive set of integrations, and easy jumpstart."
"Datadog has flexibility."
"The fact that everything is under a single pane of glass is really valuable, as developers don't have to spend their time copying correlation IDs across tools to find what they need."
"It offers the capability to view live log ingestion directly from the console which means you can seamlessly manage live log data ingestion alongside accessing and analyzing older data from the past."
"The fast search and index-free data retention are very valuable."
"One of the key features is the fast search functionality, enabling us to get results within a few seconds."

Cons

"We need more visibility into the error tracking dashboard."
"I often have issues with the UI in my browser."
"Delta traces on the Golang profiler are extremely expensive concerning memory utilization."
"The pricing model could be simplified as it feels a bit outdated, especially when you look at the billing model of compute instances vs the containers instances."
"There is occasional UI slowness and bugs."
"I would like the tooling to have better integration in Slack, specifically sending out reminders to the relevant people to take breaks, do a retrospective, and specify with emojis which messages to log."
"If there were a more cost-effective manner of deploying the tool, we'd be more likely to adopt it more widely."
"While the documentation is very good, there are areas that need a lot of focus to pick up on the key details."
"There are some overlapping features found in multiple tools."
"The integration could improve."
"The price could be lower."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Sometimes it's very hard to project how much it will cost for the monthly subscription for the next month when you add certain features. Having better visibility of the cost would give a better experience."
"They prefer monthly subscriptions."
"The tool is open-source."
"Datadog does not provide any free plans to use the solution. When I start with a proof of concept it would be sensible to have a free plan to test the tool and check whether it fits the requirements of the project. Before the production stage, it is always good to have a free plan with some limited features, number of requests, or logs."
"Licensing is based on the retention period of logs and metrics."
"The solution is fairly priced but history and log storage can get costly depending on your needs."
"It has a module-based pricing model."
"My advice is to really keep an eye on your overage costs, as they can spiral really fast."
