The solution is stable and has the ability to extend the built-in logic, but is difficult to deploy
FICO needs to provide a better user experience and user interface. Unfortunately, our clients are not able to add customization by themselves. So this limits their ability to use the solution. FICO Blaze is a complex technology, so it's more about engineering work. This means that we need to hire developers who will learn FICO Blaze as technology and use it. Without development knowledge, it is impossible to use the solution. Our clients do not always have a budget to hire huge salaried engineers, and they want to be able to tune small changes by themselves, but unfortunately, they can't because again, Blaze is really a complex technology. Currently, the solution's interface allows for really simple changes to be made by our clients. I would like to have an easier user-friendly interface to allow for more changes to be made by the client without the need for an engineer. This is not true for all companies. We are talking about some real strategies when we have a lot of decision tables, rules, and decision graphs. Because it's really hard for our business users/customers to make low-level customizations by themselves. The main reason why we switched to other solutions is that we don't see the possibility with FICO Blaze Advisor and vector of FICA company that they think to improve this because they created the decision model. This is an extension of FICO Blaze with some new modern UI items, but it's still not working 100 percent. Unfortunately, we see that it's a huge gap nowadays with this old technology that's why we continue to search for new software which we'll use.

The solution provides an efficient, comprehensive way to manage polices for all the applications.
We use ODM to set complex business rules. For instance, we deploy this solution for most of our banking customers because there are frequent changes in the policies and business rules. These are complex to manage for enterprise applications.  ODM provides an efficient, comprehensive way to manage…

Significantly improves the overall cycle time, and offers robotic automation, and the BPM workflow
The extensive availability of ready-made gadgets in Pega BPM is a double-edged sword. While it offers convenience, it also leads to a steeper learning curve. Our developers and business analysts need to invest significant time and effort to fully understand and utilize the platform's capabilities. In essence, it's a complex product that demands a deep understanding to be used effectively. So, it cuts both ways. This complexity can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, depending on the user's expertise. So, the learning curve is pretty high! So, it's very good if you are a professional user, but you need to be a really good professional user to use this solution effectively.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The rules management application is the best feature because BAs or even, perhaps, a businessperson, can directly create rules, change rules, and deploy them to production directly."
"The most valuable feature is the IDE."
"The solution is very stable."
"FICO Blaze Advisor's most valuable features are the analytics, the code change is not required, and even a business analyst can do that change in the rules when we set it up."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is the algorithm they use in the retail version. The execution there is very optimized - so even though we have a huge service with huge counter rules, we still get the results in milliseconds. That is something amazing I found about this tool."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is that it has a fast engine for decisioning."
"The solution is customizable, so you can create your own data items and variables to suit your needs."
"It's easy to build, easy to adopt for the business. Business can change those rules. I think IBM has done a good job in re-architecting the product with Decision Center as its centralized view, where the business can make changes to the rules dynamically."
"I like the fact that I don't have to deal with business rules, and then our business partners deal with it. I'm a developer, so I don't have to deal with that kind of stuff. I just make the code, then our business people take care of the business side. It's a great split."
"The solution has reduced the backlog for IT."
"ODM provides an efficient, comprehensive way to manage all the applications. Regardless of the BPM tool we are using, we choose ODM because it's flexible."
"Its ability to untangle hard coded rules and put them in a more manageable structure."
"With ODM as a centralized rules engine, it's easy to track. You can version the rules in the ODM engine itself."
"So far, the usability is great. It's also easy to set up."
"ODM's most valuable features are that it's easy to define and divide business rules, and it can handle very large numbers of transactions per second."
"The latest releases of PegaRULES are scalable, advanced, and can be easily integrated into your environment."
"Pega BPM has features for process and operation efficiency, business security texture, various report definitions like bar chart and pie chart, and management capabilities such as dashboards."
"The workflows are the most valuable features, particularly for us, because we were attempting to automate processes by utilizing workflows to provide a hands-off comparison between the bot and the human."
"Allowed us to develop and quickly release with confidence using cloud technologies."
"The visualization of the business process and the collaboration aspects of the solution are its most valuable features."
"The most valuable feature of the product is that it's very customer-centric. It's easy to use for a customer or a user. It's also easy for someone who is developing an application. You can develop different features in just one place. You don't have to go to different places."
"The most valuable features of the solution are case management, routing, and low-code environment."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."

Cons

"The initial setup of FICO Blaze Advisor was somewhat complex. The implementation took approximately three to four months. However, I left halfway through the process, I am not sure of the exact timeframe."
"I would like to see more help on the internet and more training over the internet. They only have a few blogs there, so that should be increased."
"The developer's tools on their optimized version should be a little bit more user friendly. Additionally, it really doesn't pick up the actual exception or error of what the developers are getting."
"Lacks notifications when code changes have been made."
"FICO Blaze Advisor is still missing things for maintaining the version of something. For example, we have gates for programming, for storing, or scripts. In there, one developer can prepare a file or a piece of code or something, and another developer can work on the same code or on the same text file or something, and you can manage it. This is missing in FICO Blaze Advisor."
"More online support such as a knowledge base should be available."
"FICO needs to provide a better user experience and user interface."
"There is some promise of how decisions could take advantage of machine learning and artificial intelligence. That has been slow to develop. It is still not clear where the market will take it, but that is something that I am looking forward to down the road."
"The platform is good. Its footprint is a little heavy. Other than that, the product works great."
"If merging could be just like SVN, that would help. It should be a lot simpler. That's the only thing I don't like about ODM, merging from our local computer up to the Decision Server. I feel like it could be a lot easier."
"I would like to have integration of the user interfaces, and they are putting them together in the next version of the solution."
"It hasn't totally helped our decision-making."
"I think there should be a facility for business to really create rules from scratch. The only part for IT should be to make sure the platform is stable, the technology platform, but everything else, the business should be able to create those rules."
"ODM could be improved with better integration with other platforms."
"An area for improvement is that the documentation for ODM is huge and not very clear."
"The UI part needs improvement."
"PEGA claims that they provide a LOW-CODE-PLATFORM which is easy to use - even for "citizen developers" (i.e. business employees). If you really want to use all the features out of this platform, you definitely need a lot of experience and a lot of training."
"PegaRULES should provide a more drag-and-drop interface to make it a low-code, no-code product."
"What should be included is some UI features and maybe some integrations. This includes documentation on how the UI works."
"Business specific functionality is needed."
"The local development approach is good in Pega, however, cost-wise, it's getting expensive. That needs to be addressed."
"The training aspect of Pega BPM requires significant enhancement. There should be more opportunities for third-party training and engaging events, such as hackathons where individuals can share their expertise. Additionally, the training structure itself should be more organized, as I have received feedback from my colleagues in the COE that the current training approach is overwhelming and requires excessive referencing to obtain accurate information. Another area for improvement would be the user experience with regard to RPA. Simplifying the IDA for citizen developers would make it easier for them to adopt the RPA tool."
"In the Middle East and Africa region, Pega was not very strong from the user experience standpoint."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The biggest disadvantage of Blaze Advisor is the initial cost... The price could be reduced to increase profit margins and the number of clients."
"There was an annual license required to use FICO Blaze Advisor. There were not any additional features."
"As a starting price, it is around $40,000 for a perpetual license."
"It is an expensive solution."
"ODM's pricing could be more competitive as there are open-source business rules engines that are becoming standard."
"We made a lifetime purchase. We purchased it by number of PVUs for our stage and product environments."
"It will definitely improve the cash flow of our clients, thereby it will improve the cash flow to us."
"We have a client who had a three-month ROI on this tool, just in additional sales, from sort of the next best action of what product that they should offer to their clients. ROI can be very quick with this product."
"It was not a large cost. It was a one-time cost."
"The price is a bit expensive."
"PegaRULES is a good product, but its pricing is a bit on the premium side, especially for professionals."
"They have both on-premise and cloud licensing. If you are a small to medium company, go for the cloud option because that eliminates a lot of the setting up of your DevTest and performance environments, multiple environments, because you can buy that from Pega with the cloud option. So your setup time really goes down. If you're a large company, then you're better off putting it within your company. You have other skill resources within your company to create environments."
"Users have to pay a yearly license cost for Pega BPM, which is expensive."
"I rate Pega BPM a seven out of ten."
"It is cost-effective for medium enterprises. It is cheaper than ServiceNow."
"Licensing is expensive. You need to wisely select between per user and per case."
"The licensing model from Pega BPM is too complex and is more expensive than other solutions, such as SAP. The overall price of the solution depends on the use case."
