Easy to set up with good integration capabilities but we've had troubles when moving devices
We have over 300 Fortigate sites and we use this solution to manage everything under one interface.  The scripts are very useful. We can push the TCL and CLI scripts to Fortigate. The automation is great between Ansible and Fortimanager. We can integrate the solution with other solutions. There is…

Even if an attacker detects the IP address, they can't connect directly to the server due to FortiWeb
The xFF, or X-Forwarded-For feature, IP reputation, and protected hostname. We can block access using the IP address, so no one can connect to our web server or website using the real IP. They need to use the FQDN instead. Even if an attacker detects the IP address, they can't connect directly to the server due to FortiWeb and the option to protect the hostname. All traffic passes through FortiWeb. Machine learning capabilities in FortiWeb: I don't use machine learning all the time. In the initial phase of FortiWeb deployment, we use the learning process to detect the traffic passing through FortiGate to our website.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Fortinet has the option of synchronization in the cloud, so you can manage everything if you have a cloud account."
"It is stable."
"FortiManager offers a full zero-touch provisioning feature that allows us to create a template of our devices and onboard them remotely without visiting the site."
"The most valuable feature is the central configuration for firewall policies."
"It makes management very easy."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"The user interface, along with user-friendly planning features, makes it straightforward to configure desired settings."
"The best feature of Fortinet FortiManager is its ease of use. It is easy to manage the firewall from Fortinet FortiManager. Additionally, the interface is very good."
"The most important feature of this solution is protection from attack."
"FortiGate is a stable product."
"If I need something from tech support, I can get it answered within the hour."
"You have the ability to control everything from one single dashboard."
"This product is very user-friendly."
"Banks have to be compliant with PCI and other things, and FortiWeb is absolutely amazing in terms of providing these reports. Otherwise, they will have to spend a lot of time on them."
"Fortinet FortiWeb has improved my organization by protecting our customer's web infrastructure environment."
"SSL Offloading simplifies the public certificate handling and brings additional protection features."

Cons

"We have some visibility issues with the reporting."
"Fortinet FortiManager could improve them by adding more portfolio components."
"The presence of Fortinet in our region (Nigeria) needs to be stronger."
"The reporting details have room for improvement."
"If you have more than one FortiMail device, you can't manage it then with FortiManager on FortiGate."
"The GUI could be updated. It's not as good as it could be and is something the solution should improve in an upcoming release."
"FortiManager could improve by making it easier to port larger policy packages to the FortiGate firewalls. Sometimes, there's an issue when we install a big package of policies. If you have a couple thousand policies for FortiGate firewalls, it can take a few minutes to receive a response from the remote devices. It's only an issue when you're dealing with thousands of policies and installing them on a large number of devices."
"There are a lot of bugs that need to be fixed, for example, the ZTP."
"If the price was lower, it would be a bit more attractive, as an option, to the customers."
"Fortinet's technical support is pretty slow."
"When we look at the incident reports in the dashboard, they are available for a maximum duration of 24 hours. They should provide more time for the analysis and increase the duration of the availability of these reports. Currently, it gives the options for 5 minutes, 1 hour, and 24 hours. It would be excellent if there are more options for a longer time period. It may be configurable, but I don't know how to do it."
"The automation piece can be improved. Although they say it can be automated very well, there is still manual work. Its usability should be improved in terms of automation because we want to build an infrastructure with code, but you can't do that easily with this solution. If they can give us APIs in the firewalls that we can tap into, it would be perfect."
"The initial setup in our data center was somewhat complex."
"The solution could have more customization."
"Fortinet FortiWeb could improve in reference architecture for different deployment scenarios."
"The initial setup is complex."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Fortinet FortiManager can be expensive."
"For the licensing fee, we paid around 10,000 to 15,000 euros."
"The price point is very good."
"The solution requires you to have a license for every device, as well as for any advanced features being used, which makes it costly for high-volume users. However, for a large-scale environment with a lot of customers we have found it to be a worthwhile investment."
"Fortinet FortiManager operates on a licensing system that is dependent on the number of devices being managed. Yearly subscription renewal is necessary to continue using the service. Although there is a cost associated with Fortinet FortiManager, its price is undoubtedly justified by the value it provides in terms of the purpose it serves."
"If you compare Fortinet and Palo Alto, Fortinet is cheaper, but if you compare Cisco and Fortinet, sometimes Cisco is cheaper because Cisco gives us more discounts because of the size. Cisco isn't cheap, but sometimes, we get a big discount from them."
"This is an affordable solution, and its licensing model is based on the number of devices."
"Compared to Check Point or Cisco, Fortinet FortiManager is more affordable but it is still on the higher end."
"The price of Fortinet FortiWeb depends from customer to customer because some customers are considering using other solutions, such as Imperva. The price of Fortinet FortiWeb sits well for the middle-sized customers that we deal with."
"Its subscription prices are cheaper, and it is not very expensive. From a price perspective, Fortinet is a very well-known security vendor. Subscriptions are very simple. They have a couple of licenses on an appliance, and that's it. The cost is not that big. One license is 40K, which they give with all the products. Another one includes the subscriptions for threat prevention, IPS, sandboxing, etc, which is more than enough."
"Cheaper than others."
"It keeps changing, but it's based on the size of the VM you buy and also the traffic throughput you want from it, whereas what we have on Azure is just the traffic throughput. You can also pay on a monthly basis from Azure. During each part of the project, it's okay to get Azure-based licensing or AWS-based licensing for FortiWeb, but over time, you would want to go with the perpetual license. You should go to Fortinet and buy the license from them. So, there is a two-step process there."
"So far, I have been pretty pleased with the way it's priced and licensed. The way it's done makes it easy, especially for an organization like us, so I've been pleased with the way it's priced and licensed right now."
"The price is competitive."
"Previously, for each project, the cost was $800 to $1,000 per application. Now, it's $100 to $120. For some of the applications, there is a 90% reduction, and for some of the applications, there is a 50% reduction. We're paying only $500 to $600."
"Keep a loose margin between your actual bandwidth and the product sizing when using hardware appliances. Only virtual machines are upgradable to larger sizes."
