Has very good integration features and can quickly backup data and optimize storage
I would like to see continuous data protection (CDP). If there is machine failure, you don't have to go to the backup copy that you took 12 hours ago. You can actually go back to the backup copy made half an hour ago. That is, it would be good to have certain-point-in-time recovery. I would like them to add global deduplication. With deduplicate backups, deduplication will work only with the data of a certain machine or a certain backup set. Usually, the data is repeated across the data of the backup sets. However, if IBM Spectrum Protect Plus provides a global deduplication option it will ultimately result in better storage savings.

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using this tool, we can easily backup and restore or recover the data for PCs and mobiles in case of system crashes."
"The tool has enough documentation; you don't need to contact the support team."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"Large-scale recoveries are very straightforward."
"What I like about IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is its integration, plus it has very good technical support."
"The most valuable feature is how we can easily power speed up the VM even though the VM resides in remote storage."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the integration with Oracle."
"This solution is very stable and has good support available online."
"This product is flexible enough to allow for backing up data from physical machines, as well as from your cloud environment."
"The most valuable feature is the trouble-free operation, as we have not had many problems with it."
"The most valuable feature is flexibility."
"The features are good."
"What I like most is it is a professional product. It supports all kinds of technologies, and I consider it one of the best backup products available."
"Disaster recovery primarily involves backup usage. We employ it for both backup and recovery purposes. The backup and recovery processes have been executed multiple times, even restoring data from backups created three to four years ago."
"NetBackup is very easy for end-users."
"This is a product that has been on the market for a while and they have mastered the backup process, especially when backing up to tape, for most environments."

Cons

"It still needs to grow and add new features. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I believe, requires time to become competitive due to a weakness in the other software products."
"The replication feature is not available."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve by adding SAP Rena."
"The solution only supports HyperV and VMware but doesn't support Nutanix."
"The software's technical support could improve its response time for different time zones."
"It requires much more automation features."
"Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface."
"The administration needs to be improved and made simpler to use."
"In the next release, I would like to have a better way to protect against ransomware attacks and a better way of logging issues where you don't have to enable the verbose logging to capture the problems."
"Data restoration from Veritas NetBackup is quite slow. I would also like documentation that I can share with my technical team."
"Netbackup can backup MySQL via Oracle policy, to be honest, this is not completely native support and this method has a few limitations. In fact, you can buy from Veritas (or Zmanda) clients for MySQL or PostgerSQL from Zmanda to backup MySQL or PostgreSQL on Linux."
"Veritas could simplify the firmware recovery in terms of the deployed. The process shouldn't be dependent on the agents. It should be completely agentless."
"DDBoost."
"I do not really like NetBackup as it is coming from a mix of other software packages."
"Enhancing reporting across the board would be beneficial."
"It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is perpetual, but the maintenance cost is annual. That is, we pay once for the product and pay annually for the maintenance and support. The price was much cheaper than what we would have had to pay for EMC or Veritas. The pricing is competitive, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"We have a perpetual license for the tool since it is deployed on-premise."
"Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
"The solution is too expensive."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a little expensive."
"The price is lower than that of some competing products."
"There is an annual license required to use IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. The cost of the license could improve, it is expensive."
"I rate the price of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus a one on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is very cheap."
"Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than Cohesity and Rubrik, but it is comparable in price to Commvault, IBM, and Dell."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
"Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive."
"The solution is expensive compared to other products."
"It is reasonably priced."
"Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
"Licensing fees are charged based on the number of CPU cores."
