I like the connectivity and interfaces, but the reporting could be more user-friendly
IFS uses Crystal Report mostly, which isn't too user-friendly. Developing reports isn't easy and requires a lot of dev time. Since SAP bought it, Crystal Report has become more complicated to use on IFS. You have a dashboard for reporting that is good, but it's incomplete. Most of our clients use Power BI or some additional tooling for BI. I worked on a third-party system called Harmony Solution. This French company produces a reporting tool that I feel is better than Crystal Report for IFS. They could also improve the plugin for Excel data migration to clarify its use. Many clients use it for massive amounts of data, which affects their systems. There is no communication about that. Clients use the Excel plugin because they know it works, but it does not always work the way it should. They need to improve the plugin's performance or inform customers to limit their use. Migration jobs are often based on Excel inputs, particularly CSV files. That can cause issues when operating across several countries. For example, say I'm working on a French PC collaborating with someone in India who uses an Indian PC. Excel will transform the file based on the country's language, and the input data will be wrong. I believe they are trying to fix this with the smart data tool in the cloud.

Offers a wide range of functionalities for large enterprises but system requires expertise to implement and configure
In the past few years, the main challenge has been the annual maintenance cost. We've often replaced Oracle with Dynamics, which is cheaper than Oracle but still expensive for governments in Africa with limited budgets to sustain it. So, the main challenge is the cost versus the value. We don't get lower value with Dynamics 365, and I've seen governments implement other alternatives like Odoo, too. They don't see the value in paying millions of dollars in maintenance fees. Oracle needs to understand the reality of the situation. In the African market, Oracle is the least of the considerations. People don't even want to consider Oracle. They need to come up with something more cost-effective because people do not see the value in paying those maintenance fees. As a system integrator, I don't gain anything because most of the money gets transferred to Oracle. They need to relook at their licensing models. NetSuite is pretty rigid for a cloud-based suite. There are varying requirements to make changes to the configuration, which becomes a hassle compared to even Dynamics. They need to relax how they handle this. The licensing is also very complicated, with so many parameters that it's confusing, and sizing becomes confusing. Streamlining the licensing would be helpful so that it becomes transparent for the customer.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of IFS Applications are their intuitiveness and ease of use. The navigations are also straightforward, which makes it easy to train users. The feedback I always receive is that it is very user-friendly."
"Having a young talented programmer, during the six years of use, we were able to save around 75 000 EUR preparing simple modifications using customization rather than ordering them in IFS / Partner."
"IFS Applications' best feature is the user-friendly interface that has a .NET Framework application in the front end and an Oracle database and WebLogic middleware."
"Individual user profiles that can be configured as templates to minimize data entry."
"Feature-wise, I like the way it provides inventory details...It is a stable solution."
"A high level of ERP can be handled in IFS."
"What I like about IFS Applications is that it's easier to use and implement than SAP. I also like that the IFS Applications team is more flexible than the SAP team."
"The platform is reliable and stable."
"Order to cash and procure to pay process: They are valuable features because of their integration and flexibility."
"Financial reconciliation and reporting."
"Their great technical support is one of the most valuable features."
"EBS has lots of application families and lots of features. It is modular in deployment and flexible enough to let the customer increase the built-in capabilities and enable new applications when needed. These are very important things at hand in case there will be a need to expand the product capabilities and/or implement new projects."
"It can easily be developed into an application."
"It is a very stable solution."
"Oracle's technical support is better than others."
"I think one of the best use cases is centralizing supplier and customer data into our finance system. We identified there were so many duplicate suppliers and customers and so a lot of time was spent reporting."

Cons

"IFS Applications is not robust enough to handle high-volume transactions, so it's not suitable for larger enterprises."
"The solution's initial setup process was complex...The technical support my company receives from the implementation partners of the solution is not that great."
"The solution's reporting tools still require improvement."
"There were initial difficulties when I started using the application."
"Technical support could be improved."
"The CRM was shaky and although this improves in Apps 10, there is room for improvement."
"The integration is a bit complex, and post-implementation support services need to be improved. They have a service center based out of Sri Lanka. The support aspect is good, but the response time is a little slower than we anticipated. In the next release, it would be better if Warehouse Management could be improvised. They have a product line that's a data warehouse management system, but it's still premature and requires a bit of enhancement."
"IFS uses Crystal Report mostly, which isn't too user-friendly. Developing reports isn't easy and requires a lot of dev time. Since SAP bought it, Crystal Report has become more complicated to use on IFS. You have a dashboard for reporting that is good, but it's incomplete. "The implementation can take quite a bit of time."
"Oracle is not keeping up on development of the on-premises version of this product as they are concentrating on cloud solutions."
"I would like to see more automation."
"Standard reporting needs to be changed. Many of the standard reports look the same as they did in version 10.7, 20 years ago."
"There are some cycles in HR that are not straightforward."
"Oracle E-Business Suite could improve the tables. When we remove some of them sometimes they cloud the modules into one. It becomes a little difficult to segregate."
"We need more user-friendly fast formulas for all HRMS modules."
"E-Business Suite's user experience and interface could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay for a license to use the solution, which is not very expensive."
"The pricing is relatively high compared to competitors."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"The pricing of the solution may appear to be expensive for smaller companies with only tens of users; however, for larger and mid-size industrial companies, IFS is able to win deals and the pricing is competitive in the market."
"I consider it to be a well-priced solution compared to other mid-range or high-end ERP solutions."
"IFS Applications is expensive software, but it's on par with SAP and Oracle. It's for large enterprises and government entities and not for small and medium-sized enterprises. They have one licensing model, but if you want to have a module-specific license, they provide component-based licenses. Unlike SAP and Oracle, it doesn't have different levels of licensing. It's one level of licensing."
"Licensing is on an annual basis, with no additional costs."
"It is better to buy implementation services from IFS than from partners"
"In my opinion, the prices for Oracle ERP are reasonable, especially considering the various discounts that are often available."
"The pricing of Oracle E-Business Suite is too high."
"Fees for support and licensing should be reduced."
"The price of the solution is extremely high."
"USD $100,000 annually."
"I would rate the pricing a nine out of ten, with ten being very expensive."
"It's quite expensive, even though they gave us a discount."
"Products concerning areas like CRM and ERP should provide value at lesser costs to customers, especially if you consider that the initial cost of implementation is high."
