NetFlow monitoring has improved operations but needs better configurations
For the implementation part, I am facing issues when configuring the business view. When I create the business view, I experience problems with the port interface. When I add the interface, I am confused about which interface is connected to which endpoint. If identifying the interface was easier, it would take less time to configure. Another issue is with threshold values; sometimes, it shows kilobytes (kB) while our threshold is set to gigabytes. This can be confusing. Improving this aspect would be beneficial. In URL monitoring, there is room for enhancement.

The component and cable monitoring features are good, but the interface is slow
SolarWinds' interface is slow, and this is a global concern. Every SolarWinds user complains about the sluggishness. The response is slow. If you browse from one page to another, you have to wait. Our company is a massive user with plenty of licenses, so the performance issues could be due to the load per license. Ten thousand components can be mapped under one license. So SolarWinds needs to take care of the speed problem. It cannot be this slow. That is a huge complaint. Otherwise, the tool is good. It should also be easier to upgrade SolarWinds. AppDynamics is harder to deploy but easier to upgrade. So AppDynamics takes a lot of time and effort to install, but you can upgrade it in minutes. SolarWinds is the opposite. It's easy to deploy, but upgrades take forever. To date, nobody can complete it on time, so the production environment is sitting idle. The upgrade time matters because you only install the solution once, but you'll need to upgrade the solution repeatedly over the life of the product. A complex installation isn't an issue, but I mind if the upgrade takes too long because it's already in production.

Pros

"The setup was easy."
"I am satisfied with ManageEngine OpManager's monitoring features."
"The dashboard, versatility and larger horizon are valuable."
"In my three years of experience with OpManager, we haven't encountered any issues. So, I'd rate it a nine out of ten. It's very stable."
"Flexibility in the two view dashboard helps viewers and admins get the information they need about the fetwork in a flash."
"The application monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature."
"The integration with the firewall monitoring, the security monitoring, is great."
"It helps us a lot for monitoring our servers in one console, instead of going to individual servers."
"The most valuable feature is the Access Rights Manager."
"The graphical interfaces, GUI customizations, and alert configurations are impressive."
"Solarwinds has an open database that allows you to do serious integrations. It doesn't matter which service desk you have, you can implement and integrate it with SolarWinds."
"Extremely user friendly: Any IT professional can learn how to admin NPM in a short time."
"The most valuable feature of SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor is its powerful monitoring capabilities."
"The solution can be deployed quickly."
"The component and cable monitoring are good. SolarWinds is more intuitive and user-friendly than AppDynamics. The AppDynamics console is more complex because it's a more feature-rich solution, so it's not easy for somebody to pick it up."
"The features like trends, capacity planning, recommendations, and diagnostics are the main items I focus on for added value."

Cons

"The solution is a bit difficult to configure. There are quite a number of configurations and plugins that you must handle early in the process."
"The integration with various OEM products could be simplified."
"We had some stability issues at the outset that have since been resolved."
"OpManager is slow but that just might be the server we have it on. I don't think that's the problem but I don't do the server. But it is slow. When you're interacting with it, it could be more nimble and could be faster."
"What I'd like ManageEngine OpManager to improve on is artificial intelligence. In particular, the machine learning feature should be integrated with the sensor flow. Doing this will give leverage, especially when you look at other products such as the Cisco DNA Center. When a switch goes down, I should be able to build on the correlation of other physical devices it's connected to so that I can integrate that with my CA CMDB. The ManageEngine OpManager team needs to draw a long-term roadmap where that feature becomes an integral part of the solution because right now, machine learning in ManageEngine OpManager is a long process. The solution doesn't have MLS search and I want to see ML being developed and applied for CA CMDB to greatly reduce the burden of tying everything. For example, if I have a data center switch that goes down now, I should know what server it's connected to, and when that switch goes down at twenty-four ports, I would get twenty-four alerts for different devices plugged in. I should be able to make a correlation that the major problem lies in the switch and not with the twenty-four elements connected to that switch. That is where machine learning should come into play and the ManageEngine OpManager AI should indicate "This is where the root of your problem is." It could be difficult, but this is a feature that should be improved or added to the solution."
"I would like to see more capabilities and specific profiles built for the manufacturing sector."
"We have been facing an issue since last year when a lot of our users started to work from home through their mobiles or computers. We are having trouble reaching these devices. We are now planning to publish our instance to the cloud so that we can reach these devices. Its performance should be improved in terms of the discovery of the devices. I would like to feel confident with the discovery that this solution does. For example, on my dashboard, I would like to be able to view a list of all devices seen on a specific server. At present, it is difficult to find such information. This would be an excellent feature to have."
"The pricing could be cheaper. The initial integration does cost a bit."
"SAM's software-defined network monitoring capability is also low and could be improved."
"Application-based monitoring, such as monitoring within servers like Apache and IIS, has room for improvement."
"One product area that could benefit from improvement is the synchronization of licensing periods across different modules"
"It would be helpful if the solution could integrate more with the security compliances, like this IDSS, etc."
"It needs time-based functions for monitoring. Some things need to be polled on a specific schedule or only during a specific window."
"The tool’s report feature created issues for us. We needed to gain skills to use that feature. The tool’s customization is not easy since you have to reconfigure the whole system."
"A lot of times, we have to do a lot of manual cleanups."
"There is one feature that is a report writer. And they are currently trying to take it out from being a stand-alone application and integrating to the web. This doesn't give us the flexibility and it doesn't expand what we can get when it comes to reporting. So, putting it on the web is going to make it difficult to get some information. Leaving it where it is now will help us a lot."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is on a yearly basis and the pricing is on the cheaper side."
"The pricing is moderate."
"ManageEngine OpManager has a three-tier licensing model."
"We have a standard license for ManageEngine OpManager. We purchased the license for one year and now we are upgrading it soon."
"ManageEngine OpManager is cheaper than SolarWinds."
"It is not really expensive; it is nominal licensing."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"The solution's pricing is very low compared to other products."
"The licenses start from USD 3000.00 and go up to USD 20,000.00 for the year. It's a perpetual license. Nothing is free in SolarWinds, anything that you need is an additional cost."
"The product is expensive."
"I would rate the pricing for this solution a three out of five."
"I like the pricing for this SolarWinds product."
"I have always said SolarWinds is very “proud” of their products, meaning they are expensive. I cannot afford to purchase all the licenses I need for all the SolarWinds products."
"Nagios XI, WhatsUpGold, Uptime Software, PRTG, Manage Engine, and SpiceWorks are the other tools that have lower pricing and licensing costs. However, they can't compete with SolarWinds when it comes to the features and functionality that SolarWinds can provide."
"When compared to other licensed models in the market, it stands out as one of the more cost-effective options."
"Its licensing is on a yearly basis. It is just the standard price, but it can vary depending on the current rate of the dollar."
