Better security with comprehensive features but has a high cost
I have a lot of clients and I use Microsoft Defender for Business when we have certain types of licenses. It comes with Microsoft Business Premium. However, it is not available for many of my clients due to the high license cost, which makes it difficult to sell. I have a couple of clients who use…

Good user behavioral analysis and helpful patching but needs better support services
Some of our products have a first and second line owned by us. We are giving support services to the customers instead of the vendor. Some other products are supported directly by the technology vendor, however. Technical support from the vendor is very bad. Usually, when the customer submits a ticket, they put a severity level on the case. Whenever the case is very important, and there is a real malfunction in the product on the customer side, and there is something down that needs someone to have a look immediately, it takes more time than it should to even engage with the customer. When someone has to contact the customer and have a remote session within the customer environment, they sometimes lack in terms of communication with the customer. The support centers are located in the East and not all have an acceptable level of English in order to communicate directly with the customer.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"A few things are valuable. One is the alerting we see when any kind of intrusion is happening, any kind of malware is being deployed across the endpoints, or any kind of suspicious activity is going on. We have a footprint across all of North America, Canada, and Mexico, so we want to make sure that all our endpoints are protected and we are able to look for any anomalous activity."
"I haven't had any problems with the tool's stability."
"I would recommend Microsoft Defender for Business to others, rating it as ten out of ten."
"The interface is quite user-friendly."
"I recommend Microsoft Defender for Business to startup organizations looking for a plug-and-play solution."
"The most effective features of Microsoft Defender for Business include its threat detection and response capabilities in managing vulnerabilities and ransomware attacks."
"The solution includes attack-savvy service and risk protection, part of data center management, and offers an effective single-dashboard view with Microsoft 365."
"The security features are valuable because they come with more capabilities that other licenses do not have, including the enterprise license like E3."
"Tech support is responsive. They're good, the very best."
"Threat prevention is valuable because most clients use other solutions like antivirus as part of web protection. I don't find that kind of solution useful."
"I have found many of the features to be useful."
"The solution is a reliable and mature product. Its reporting function is robust, and the user interface is easy to use. End users can create customized reports with detailed reporting for any computer and export them in PDF or other formats. This reporting capability is very robust."
"Automatic user recovery prior to Windows booting up."
"It provides a lot of information and great visibility, with really great options for managing the environment."
"It provides a robust defense against cybersecurity threats while offering user-friendly features like notifications and approval prompts."
"I like trap prevention DNS and threat prevention."

Cons

"The security could always be improved."
"Technical support could be faster to respond."
"Threat protection could be improved even though it is already a built-in feature."
"Talking with the tool's technician about any problem is very complicated."
"It is not quick to make exclusions or specific configurations compared to other antiviruses on the market."
"Additionally, the pricing policy poses a challenge, particularly in multi-year contracts, where other solutions like Trend Micro offer more affordable options."
"Defender's threat protection should be fine-tuned to reduce false positives. It could be more targeted, reflecting a continuous evolution in detecting. Also, it could be easier to integrate into other environments."
"Microsoft should provide batch management solutions with the application, integrating pass management with roles."
"Trying to move away from the signature model for antivirus and malware blocking is something that would be nice. Instead of having to update every day, which is signature-based, moving to more of a kernel or architecture-based model would probably be beneficial."
"The solution's documentation is not streamlined and is in bits and pieces, which should be in a single format."
"There are more secure featured solutions from McAfee on the market but for smaller companies like ours, they are too expensive."
"There are certain shortcomings in the features concerning DLP in Trellix, where certain additions must be made in the future."
"McAfee Endpoint Protection could improve the word control feature."
"The solution's technical support should be improved since we faced a lot of issues with the support. There were some delays in responses from the technical support."
"Signatures to protect against new attacks."
"When it runs in the background of the endpoint, the devices get slowed down for some applications."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It has to get more competitive because we are starting to see some of the competitors providing better pricing, and some of it, of course, is to gain market share. The Defender product pricing is probably a little higher than the competitors."
"Defender for Business is included by default with an Office 365 premium subscription."
"Since we're a nonprofit, we get pretty good discounts on the tool."
"The tool is cheap, while some other solutions are more expensive. I remember the tool cost about five euros for a workstation or for a user on a monthly basis."
"The tool's cost has been a little high, but I do not think it was terrible."
"There are some extra expenses for using the product, in addition to licensing related to the maintenance of the product."
"The initial price is very good as they give good initial discounts, but it seems a little expensive once you renew the license."
"We pay for the license on an annual basis."
"The price of this product is good."
"The tool is affordable"
"The product is expensive."
"Since the maintenance is done by our own team, the price of the subscription should really be cheaper."
"When comparing the solution to others it is a bit expensive. We are on a monthly license."
