Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is scalable.""It is easy when it comes to dependencies of devices, so if your router goes down, the three or four switches behind it will automatically be paused so that you don't get multiple alerts.""It is able to satisfy all our requirements in terms of email notifications and specific errors on the devices.""I really love the activity library. It gives the flexibility to discover data and metrics about my interface and data server.""The most valuable feature is the notifications. As long as you spend time and think about what and when you want to be notified, it's always accurate. It is always there. I find things out before my Internet provider.""PRTG is integrated on Windows.""The bandwidth monitoring is a very attractive feature, it can tell you the bandwidth utilization while it is attempting to connect to the host for feedback.""Ability to create a dashboard inside software monitoring."

"The most valuable thing that we have seen within our group is the ability to ingest all this raw data and have it organized in a certain way so that different groups can get effective alerting from this massive amount of raw data that is out there.""It is a great resource for us because we have so many different data sources and to be able to aggregate that and put it through a concise dashboard or an alert really helps.""Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring gives us complete visibility without the need for storage.""The feature I find most valuable, is the data integration.""The most valuable feature in this solution is the log searching.""The Add data feature lets you gather any type of log and easily analyze it.""The data collection from our VMs, containers, databases, and backend components is valuable.""The alerts are the most valuable feature."

Cons
"I would like the ability to monitor Cisco IRS devices.""Technical support is an area with concerns in PRTG Network Monitor, where improvements are required.""The Desktop app is good but it can be really sluggish at times, especially when you're editing different elements.""When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve.""PRTG Network Monitor should improve the NetFlow dashboard, there is no flexibility, and the NetFlow is not meeting the business needs. Additionally, they are missing part of the configuration management.""We have had a few issues with the web elements, as far as the dashboard. With the dashboard, it has to be manually refreshed. Occasionally, we reboot the server, or at least web services, due to the web aspect.""We would like more cloud native sensors for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc. A lot of businesses are moving in that direction, so having something where we can pull performance stats out of these cloud services would be great for us.""The licensing policy needs more flexibility."

More PRTG Network Monitor Cons →

"The implementation can be more user-friendly.""They do not have all the features that I expect right now.""The solution should have more sensors regarding fiber intelligence for security measures.""The cost needs to be re-examined. It's extremely expensive to run. It's also expensive to expand. That's the number one complaint all of my customers have when it comes to Splunk. It's way too expensive compared to other solutions.""The price has room for improvement.""They need more EDR functionalities.""The solution's stability is an area that has room for improvement. It needs to provide constant stability to its users.""We have both on-prem and cloud, and the challenge is getting all our log data aggregated or streams aggregated so that it is real-time. We do a pretty good job of that, but our organization is not using it as a security platform when it can do a great job of that."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
