Ability to segregate data, well-suited for medium enterprises and installation is quick
We have some challenges. If we look at the challenges we face in the market, there are a few products like Sophos, where there are features of MaaS360, and the IBM EDR product, ReaQta. So, there are features from both ReaQta and MaaS360 available in Sophos, as well as a few other products, which we have challenges in replacing. MaaS360 definitely caters to a few of the requirements, but when someone is going for a solution, all the features are not available in MaaS360. It is like a combo, MaaS360, and IBM ReaQta, that is, EDR, ReaQta. Both of them, together as a combo plan, actually offer a very good proposition in terms of market competitors. There are a few products like Sophos and another product which have features from both endpoint detection and response and mobile device management. Because we have two different products with those features, we face challenges in proposing a particular product for the client. It is like a marketing challenge. The way other competitor products are available in the market. So it is better to have a different positive team, but, again, to remain in competition and have better scalability. So, IBM needs to integrate a few features that the competitors have in their products. No doubt, this is a different product, MaaS360. We call it MDM. We call it endpoint mobile device management. Then we call it different names that MaaS360 falls into. But when we are talking about competitor products, to remain in the competition, you need to have features that others provide. IBM surely has those features in other products, but not in MaaS360. The only challenge was replacing already existing competitor products with MaaS360. So, that’s the only area where we struggle because they always come with those requirements that they are already getting in the competitor’s product, which is not available in IBM’s MaaS360. So this product lacks some features, like Unified Endpoint Management.

An MDM solution for controlling and restricting data on devices
Everyone is using high-end devices, such as mobile devices. If they lose their devices, how about the data copied to other devices? Once the device is lost, you can remotely delete all of the data and block the device, preventing anyone from using or reusing it. This will keep your devices secure.

Provides enterprise mobility and remote control mobile device management
I would like to see some SMS integration so people can send data directly from a mobile phone through SMS when there's no internet. This feature would be good because there are some places in Africa where the internet stability isn't that good. During the voting process, they send the result through SMS. If SOTI can add the functionality where some of the clients can send information offline, via SMS, then that would be a good improvement for some places where there isn't a lot of internet stability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using this solution has made things more convenient. Earlier, we had to depend a lot more on IT to find and resolve our issues."
"The tool's most valuable features are application, distribution, and security. It helps to block user access."
"The graphic, friendly interface allowed us to start without almost any support from the manufacturer."
"The ability to send an iPad out to someone and have them auto-provision it when they are out in the field is fantastic. We don't have to have it all configured before we ship it. This is probably the biggest value add."
"The solution is quite stable."
"It can change policies based on geolocation or schedules."
"Remote enablement feature and access to internal resources on the VPN."
"The most valuable features of IBM MaaS360 are encryption and mobile design."
"Scalefusion is easy to use, and they have a broad knowledge base, so you can quickly find answers if you're unsure how to do something. The articles on the knowledge base are well-written, with clear steps on what to do for a specific scenario. That part is well documented."
"Its enhanced support for iOS and Windows devices has been particularly beneficial, expanding our service offerings to customers with diverse device environments."
"One of the most valuable features is the remote control. If there are issues in the field, we can remote into those devices and see what kind of issues they are."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to deploy apps on the fly. We're able to update and deploy new applications, directly from the cloud. That's been a huge feature for us. Instead of putting hands on each of these devices - and we're talking thousands of devices - we can manage it all from the backend."
"It gives us the ability to manage our mobile fleets and push out updates quickly for all of our internal applications to keep the business running. We can push an app update out in minutes..."
"One of the most valuable features is the ease of moving items from one configuration to another; it's a Windows-like setup. Also, the admin console is very easy to manage and to move through."
"The other feature, that I have got to say is just leaps and bounds ahead of SOTI's competition, is the remote control feature. It's a true admin remote-control, so we don't have to have somebody on the other side of the device allowing us access to the device... We're able to pull up a tablet or phone and take pictures of it and we can actually videotape what's going on, on the device itself, and that's been huge."
"Because we have a custom, business-to-business applications, the solution's deployment features give us the ability to control the deployment of new versions. We can granularly decide which people or which phone receive updates. It's kind of like having your own "app store" and being able to control what you deploy on the phones... You can see how the deployment is happening; if it's going well or not."
"The other one would be just how easy it is to deploy applications."
"The best feature is its compatibility with various device versions, such as Windows, making it work seamlessly."

Cons

"When we have MaaS360 installed on smartphones, it consumes the battery of the device at a much faster pace. This is one of the areas of improvement that I would like to highlight. We have also observed that in the contact list, a lot of duplication is happening. A single contact is duplicated three or four times, which also consumes more memory resources. If they can work on improving it for these aspects, it will have a more positive impact not only on the way the application is being consumed by the user but also on user satisfaction. A lot of new features are being deployed or rolled out by companies that are competitors of IBM MaaS360. IBM will have to ensure that all those features are on board so that we have a complete suite of features in the platform, rather than deploying multiple diverse solutions to cater to the requirements of our customers."
"IBM MaaS360 can improve the information provided for DLP control. Some of our customers would benefit from this."
"The solution needs to offer live technical support. Right now, it's just a chat window and it's rather unhelpful."
"Sometimes IBM MaaS360 seems buggy...The solution's technical support team is sometimes slow to respond and not competent enough."
"IBM MaaS360’s threat management feature needs improvement. It could identify even more malicious attacks."
"It's difficult for someone like me to set up a phone that doesn't require a SIM card, like Apple's new phones."
"The user interface could definitely use some improvement."
"An area for improvement would be handshaking with Microsoft in terms of trying to get a DLP on Microsoft OS."
"It could be easier to put devices on the blocklist. I would like the ability to block a device with a click of a button. Currently, we have to sift through different groups to block a device. It would be nice if Scalefusion allowed me to block without moving the device to a different profile. Another helpful feature they could add is the ability to migrate from one MDM to another. I'd also appreciate more extensive cloud storage. They give you 1 GB by default, but sometimes that's not enough."
"One area for improvement could be streamlining permissions during initial device setup, especially for corporate-owned devices, to reduce manual user interaction and expedite deployment."
"They could make it easier to configure. While setting it up from scratch, I find many networking issues, and I have to call our network people for them, but our network people don't understand. It's a nightmare to try to communicate to them that this port needs to be open, or this needs to be opened here or there. Networking people are very security conscious, and they're wary of doing anything. So, if you can't tell them exactly why they need to do something, they get really paranoid. SOTI could do a better job of making the configuration of their software easier to understand and more clear. The prerequisites should be clear. They should clearly specify what is required to get this software working. There should be a list of prerequisites that is easier to understand and trust."
"The pricing policy of SOTI is not stable. You buy it today at one price, and the following year, it becomes something like 5% or 7% higher. From my point of view, SOTI is a little bit weak in terms of implementation on the new Windows 10 devices, and they have to work on this. It can't compete with Intune and other solutions when it comes to Windows implementation. It almost doesn't work with iOS. It works well with Android."
"They don't have systems that are built for redundancy. You have one database that manages everything and, if that database crashes, you have a problem."
"SOTI MobiControl could improve by being more user-friendly."
"Where they need improvement is not as much on the technical side but, rather, on their communication. In general, that has been poor. Account management and communication could be greatly improved..."
"I would like them to improve the process of enrolling Android devices. It's much more difficult to enroll Android devices than it is Windows CE devices. There are a lot more steps required."
"The documentation could be improved in SOTI MobiControl."
"Most of our devices are Android, they're Google related, so we need access from Google to do certain things. There are ways around that, but that's something that we're really looking for. How can we control the Apple Air? How can we get into that app?... How can we make sure that that app doesn't try to update in the middle of the day when our driver needs it?"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"Price is something for which we are always under pressure. If we have to look at the MaaS deployment, the price definitely has to come down. This is clearly one of the areas that we will have to work on, not only as a provider to our customers but also as a consumer of this service."
"IBM products are expensive compared to the tools offered by its competitors. IBM MaaS360 is an expensive tool."
"IBM products are a little pricey."
"There are other solutions cheaper than IBM MaaS360, such as Microsoft Intune."
"I feel the pricing to be very high."
"IBM MaaS360 is cheaper compared to other alternatives. Others are at least three to six times costlier."
"The solution is cost-effective."
Information not available
"SOTI is fairly priced. It's not super expensive. If you have a thousand devices that are licensed, it's going to start climbing up in price. Typically, it's like 25 bucks a seat for a year."
"There are additional costs if you want to use extra features."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing a five."
"It's a little bit expensive."
"Its pricing policy is not stable. The licensing is on a one-yearly, two-yearly, or three-yearly basis. There is no monthly fee."
"SOTI MobiControl is a budget-friendly solution."
"There are solutions that can be more aggressively priced, but they may not provide all that SOTI does. It's a matrix regarding what feature you use. You need to compare the features you use and what you are willing to pay for them... SOTI's pricing is okay. It's in the middle... They can provide more aggressive pricing once you start to have a lot of licenses."
"The product is reasonably priced at the moment."
