Disaster recovery is the biggest benefit.

What is most valuable?

How has it helped my organization?

For our company, disaster recovery is, of course, the biggest benefit.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more GUI. The command line is fine, but if I had more GUI, that would be good. Also, I would like to see better reporting.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I've been working with it for the last three years, and I recall maybe once or twice when we had issues. So it is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For the company where I provide support, they are kind of "hold-back". But we could do more with it. They are just not giving us all that we need.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is very good.

I wasn't involved in the setup.

Very strong product but lacks reporting and efficient alert mechanism.

Valuable Features

The archiving functionality of data.

Improvements to My Organization

With this product we are able to save a lot on costs and on expensive storage.

For reporting and alerts, use Operations Center or TSM Monitoring. Both offers excellent reporting and alerting function

No issues with deployment.

No.

Customer Service:

Poor.

Technical Support:

From my perspective, IBM gives almost no support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I know Networker, Avamar, BackupExec but I like mostly TSM.

How was the initial setup?

Complex but that's good for me because then I have more work!

What about the implementation team?

I am implementer.

What other advice do I have?

This product is only for good, educated administrators.

A scalable and stable solution that we have been using for around 20 years

What is our primary use case?

We are using a specific version of the solution, ten something. 

We use it to increase our recovery capabilities. 

What needs improvement?

The solution should have better integration with VMware and with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. 

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using IBM Spectrum Protect for around 20 years, although I have been utilizing IBM Spectrum Protect Plus for two to three. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have no complaints about the stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is really scalable. 

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support could be so much faster. 

How was the initial setup?

The installation is straightforward and required around 20 servers. 

It took us about an hour.

What about the implementation team?

When it comes to the deployment and maintenance, certain administrative skills are required. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a special license, the name of which is escaping me at the moment, which grants us use for an unlimited number of years.

We must pay for a full license. 

What other advice do I have?

Since our organization affords use to 50 clients per server, this comes out to around 1,000 clients. 

I would recommend this solution to others. 

I rate IBM Spectrum Protect as an eight out of ten.
