Data Protector is available in three levels: entry level, mid-range, and enterprise level. For the enterprise level, we previously worked with the available infrastructure, but now we are moving towards cloud storage. With cloud storage, we may achieve better performance and can handle concurrent backups effectively, managing multiple backups on the cloud without performance issues or downtime. They have certain built-in templates. Whenever a different type of backup is needed, they either replace the template or use a specific template and restart it. I was trying to convince the client that, similar to these templates, we are also developing templates that we can set up. For example, IBM is a competitor to Data Protector. Everyone knows about Data Protector, but the major issue is the significant gap between support and the application. We need to emphasize that we offer good tech support and improve documentation. If we address these issues, we can convince customers to continue using DP, especially since many clients have shifted to cloud environments. We need to adapt our processes to focus on cloud solutions and present these alternatives to customers, rather than relying solely on existing infrastructure. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

The tool is easy to manage and offers centralized management, a major advantage. You can use one console to manage multiple locations. We don't currently use AI in our strategies, but we may explore it in the future. Integrating AI with OpenText Data Protector could help ensure that our backups are clean and free from cybersecurity threats or corruption. This would enable us to perform clean restores whenever necessary. I rate the overall product an eight out of ten.

In my company, we don't have dedicated people to maintain the tool, but we have an expert within a team who is the most experienced person with the tool. In general, in my company, we don't have a full-time role to just look after OpenText Data Protector. I wouldn't recommend the solution to new users. Instead, I would suggest that new users go for OpenText VIM. If you already use OpenText Data Protector in your environment, then you may consider continuing with it. For new users, it is pointless to choose OpenText Data Protector. I rate the overall product a six out of ten.
We have migrated the solution with an appliance. We are in a transition phase to use Data Domain. I recommend the solution for its ease of use. Overall, I rate the product a nine out of ten.

I recommend it because it's simple to use, easy to understand, simple to operate, and simple to implement. The backup stability is commendable, even when dealing with NDMP and SAP Oracle backups. Based on my experience, I would suggest Micro Focus Data Protector to our enterprise clients. Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.
At the end of the day, Data Protector is a user-friendly backup solution that is easy to integrate with any OS or database. Its main strengths include granular backup functionality and a well-implemented dashboard that tells you all the essential info such as how many backups you've run, how many have succeeded or failed, and how much space the backups are taking up. I would rate Micro Focus Data Protector a nine out of ten.
I rate Micro Focus Data Protector six out of 10 overall. I would recommend something besides Data Protector. It isn't competitive with other products and doesn't support replication features. So it's less competitive with other products in the market. So I wouldn't advise.
I rate Micro Focus Data Protector eight out of 10. It's a highly stable solution that does the job. To use this product, you must comfortable with a command line interface, and many people today can't deal with anything that's not GUI. You need to be in control of the command line to use it properly.

My advice to new implementers is to please first try to understand the current environment and try to find out the prerequisites before proceeding with the solutions. Because most of them don't go with the existing environment, they just start implementing the new environment without understanding their setups. In my opinion, we should first try to understand the setup with their environment team, understand what all of their requirements are, and then proceed based on that. It depends on whether they're going through an enterprise hardware level, virtualization, or even a cloud. My concerns from what I have observed are once we have implemented, they later ask if we have certain features or capabilities available when they should have considered including these features as well before the implementation. The issue is that the customer is not convinced by the sales team that the features are available and that they can go with these features, to test their environment. My suggestion is for the sales team to go into their environment, understand their requirements, and then talk about what features we have in our product to give them a clear idea that this is what the environment, this is what the features you may be expecting in your environment. We failed because our sales teams were unable to persuade them in the proper manner. I would rate Micro Focus Data Protector a ten out of ten. This is the only product where the majority of them are unsure, either because of the features, which we only have here or because of the manner in which they have been convinced. But when I just work practically and try to convince customers, they are happy with the features that we have in the product. When we approach new customers, they say that it does not include certain features. But when I try to convince them that we do have these features, and please let us know what features we need to have in order to compete with third-party products. I hope we have many features in DP, rather than going through because we are now going through a block-based system. If we go through file system backups, a number of integrations, and even big data, we are getting close. I think this is the most wonderful type of feature for what we currently have in Data Protector, where we can explore these things.
My company and its customers use Micro Focus Data Protector, though I'm not sure which version of the solution is being used. It's deployed on the public cloud and via a SaaS service. My rating for Micro Focus Data Protector is eight out of ten. I'm a reseller of Micro Focus Data Protector.

I rate Micro Focus Data Protector eight out of 10. We chose Data Protector years ago because it supported all the systems and databases we needed. Other software packages covered a special range of products but didn't offer broad support. This was a long time ago, so I don't know the situation in the market today.

I'm a customer and an end-user. We are almost using the latest version of the solution. We are actually using 10. We haven't yet upgraded, however, we are just a step away from the latest. I would recommend the solution to others. They are 100% perfect. Just like any company, they have their own issues. That said, I would still recommend it as a comprehensive backup and recovery solution. I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

I wouldn't recommend Micro Focus Data Protector to be used as a cloud backup. But for on-premise and file share use, it's quite okay. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Micro Focus Data Protector a seven.
On a scale of one to ten, I would give Micro Focus Data Protector a three or three point five at the highest. If somebody wants to argue, I can go up to three point five, otherwise, three. It is very simple - they have not adopted the latest technologies. Micro Focus Data Protector works, but it's very slow and for the environment I'm running in there are better backups.

We're just a customer and an end-user. We don't have a special relationship with this company. I'm not sure of the exact version we're using. It may be some iteration of version six. I'd advise new users to implement the solution using a support person and good documentation and to make sure they are putting the correct data policies in place. In the past, it was quite a good tool, however, now, due to a lack of training, or due to having a lack of staff that is trained in it, it is likely much easier to have something like Veeam, which isn't as complicated of a solution. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this product at a five. In comparison, I'd rate Veeam at an eight.

It is a very good product if you want to go for the ZDB backup or the array integration with HP products. In general, when comparing Micro Focus Data Protector with other backup solutions, such as Commvault, NetBackup, or any other vendor, they are much more comprehensive and have much more capabilities. I would rate Micro Focus Data Protector a seven out of ten.

We have a service level agreement with Micro Focus. I cannot say that Data Protector is the perfect tool for my aim. Data Protector is losing to the competition day by day due to the fact that there are so many other features on the market. Data Protector doesn't need to copy their competition, but they at least have to have an offering that's equivalent. Especially now, looking at the console, there's been no money put into updates or UI, especially if you compare it from 2007 until the present day. The technology itself is proven and it is working fine. I have a lot of machines, so I have room to play with the solution. Data Protector is great, however, after using Veem, I can see now where it could be improved. I'd rate it overall seven out of ten. If Data Protector offered a cloud version with better graphical interfaces, plus more analytics and reporting, I'd give it higher marks.
Considering the data report and also the possibility of maintenance and support, I would advise going for Veeam or Commvault because of the free trial security and backup possibility data protection, which is on-premise, cloud, and replication. This cannot be done by Data Protector. I would rate it a six out of ten. It only has the option for on-premise while the other solutions can do on-premise, cloud, and replication use the same interface. They should improve it to have a replication feature and do backups within the cloud. It can be a good device to use.

The solution is very stable, it was very helpful. We are confident that when we do a backup, we are sure that we can restore it which is very valuable. It's very reliable and we are confident when doing a backup, we could restore it. I would rate it an eight out of ten. It is very stable and we trust it but we've had some problems with it which is why I would deduct two points.
We essentially handle enterprise solutions. We work with enterprises that have their own cloud and machines to back up their systems. I would rate this solution ten out of ten. If you are an enterprise, and you need a strong backup solution, Micro Focus is for you. For me, it's the best.

We are using the on-premises version of the solution. In terms of advice that I would give to those thinking about using the solution, I'd say this: it's a very good application. It does the job. It can be better, but it does the job. It does everything any basic backup application should do. The interface could be more intuitive and more colorful to help with its ease of use. I would rate the solution seven out of ten.
The Micro Focus Data Protector solution is not really good, but it is "good enough" that it can help our client requirements. If I compare Micro Focus Data Protector with other solutions, MFDP just does not have enough complexity in the UI. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give Micro Focus Data Protector a seven. They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use.

If a company has no protection for their data and information then they need this product. However, the reliability needs to be enhanced. Micro Focus needs to fix the current issues by working closely with customers to determine how it is that we can help. Overall, I would rate this product a six out of ten.
OpenText Data Protector standardizes and consolidates backups across multiple platforms. It provides secure, comprehensive backup protection for business-critical data and applications whether virtual, physical, or online in the cloud.

If the solution's customer service improves, it will stand out as the best product compared to other vendors. I rate it as a five.
I would recommend Veeam over Micro Focus Data Protector. Overall, I rate the solution somewhere between six to seven out of ten.
