Easy to use, immutable, and provides good deduplication features
When we wanted to back up our Microsoft environment, we looked for a cloud backup. Barracuda provided a cloud backup. There were no other products that offered similar features at that time. I will recommend the product to others. It is easy to use. It is a complete package. It is easy to integrate the product with Microsoft. We have a complete package that includes antispam and email gateway solutions. We can choose any package we want. We use Barracuda Essentials. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Backup management excels with user-friendly interface and effective deduplication, offering robust data protection
Leveraging AI in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the road maps now that they have done a collaboration with Cohesity, which is a feature I'm looking forward to. Using AI is one improvement I recommend for the Veritas NetBackup Appliance. They have implemented some aspects of AI for features such as malware detection and anomaly detection. I believe they can do more to give customers more insight into their data, allowing them to see it and understand what they can do, such as archiving old data. They can do more by utilizing the data effectively to provide insights to customers about their space usage, future projections, and options for managing old data.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Whenever you have a crash or your service is not working, you can just live-boot the machine and have your service up and running."
"Of all the backup products we have used, this by far is the simplest to install and use."
"I have found the product's LiveBoot feature to be most valuable."
"The performance is good and the interface is user-friendly."
"The backup feature is most valuable. That's why we took it."
"Its interface is intuitive, and it is easy to use when I am restoring files. Barracuda does a really excellent job at compression, which makes it very efficient. Eight years later, I am only halfway through to the capacity, which is very good."
"The product is easy to install and use while doing what it is expected to do."
"The configuration and the onboarding process are pretty good."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance's most valuable feature is information backup."
"The solution is useful for backups."
"The policy-based backup feature is very helpful."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance fairly covers our enterprise requirements and supports all our databases and operating systems."
"It’s quite scalable."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system. It is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients."
"They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support."

Cons

"The solution is pretty expensive. This is the usual customer complaint."
"It is not always stable."
"The search features must be improved."
"We cannot backup Sun Micro systems. They are not currently supported."
"We're working with them on our file share backups. Our solution needs a little bit more fine-tuning. We're not sure if the issue is at our end or at Barracuda's end."
"I would like to see better integration with third-party applications."
"I am working in some of the more rural areas of Sweden, and some of the customers here are a little bit wary of cloud technology at the moment. It is not like in Gothenburg or Stockholm, where people rely on it so much more. In the rural areas, companies are saying that we do need to use the cloud, and they are being very wary about their data, especially with GDPR and all that kind of stuff. Having more control and having an option for backing up locally, even if you don't want to use it, would be something very good. The cloud backup is brilliant, but there should be an option to take that cloud backup and save it locally as well. If you lose connection to the internet or you lose access to your data in the cloud, having a backup copy of the latest data on your server is helpful. You need to be able to get access to your customers' files, especially with GDPR, where you need to know where your customers' details are. If they're in the cloud and you've lost access to them, then you'll go into those GDPR regulations. This is somewhere where both Barracuda and Veeam haven't gone as far. As far as I have understood, with Veeam, you can back up your local servers to the cloud but not vice versa. I haven't worked on it much."
"The web interface needs to contain a more up-to-date view of the hardware."
"It could be better integrated with other platforms."
"It is not easy because I have worked a lot on the tool, and in case it gets corrupted at any point, it is not easy to restore the data without losing information is not easy."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"Depending on the setup structure, it can be complex to implement."
"The cost per terabyte is extremely high."
"The NetBackup software is based on Red Hat Linux, but we should have multiple software options for that. We should have more OS options. Also, there are too many tools and intermediaries. Everything should be built into an all-in-one solution."
"In terms of implementing the solution, it's quite technical. You need to be knowledgable in order to pull off a successful deployment."
"I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's pricing is reasonable."
"Because it is a single package that includes everything, they are worth the money that you need to pay for it. You are paying for the hardware, licensing, the software that runs on it, regular updates, the cloud features included with it along with the replication, and your space allocated in the cloud for replication. It is fairly priced for what you get."
"Low, fixed cost with great savings."
"You have two options, which we have. We pay for it bi-monthly. Then, you can purchase the project hours and support annually."
"You don't need to buy an extra license or agent. With one box, you have licenses for any amount of devices that you want to backed up for whatever is backed up."
"They're on par with their competitors."
"The price of the five-year contract was approximately three million Rupees ($42,000 USD)."
"The licensing is charged yearly. It's my understanding that the cost of the solution is somewhere around $7,000 every two years."
"This solution is expensive."
"Overall, Veritas is a good solution; the problem is the cost."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"The solution is not cheap"
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
"We pay annually. It is a huge figure for us."
