Provides a compact solution for midsized companies
IBM does not do very good marketing for FileNet. Initially, after IBM acquired the product, there was good marketing support, but this has dwindled as IBM has lost personnel. More could be done to highlight the benefits to customers. Additionally, there are no visually appealing interfaces or apps for the product, which can influence customer buying decisions.

Time from creation to access is much better, as reports are immediately available upon generation
The usability, the ease of access, are among the most valuable features, as well as the improved functionality it gives us. Also, the solution's content interoperability for business systems and applications, as well as content, is very intuitive, highly user-friendly, and well received. Another important feature is that Mobius provides a single pane of glass for delivering content from multiple repositories. It is also highly recommended because of the ease of use when it comes to searching and retrieving from multiple repositories simultaneously. And I would highly endorse it as well for helping to provide secure access to information anytime and anywhere. That secure access is very important because of our content security requirements. I also rate it "high" for automating the governance of information while meeting global and regional data security privacy laws and regulations.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Gves us the ability to create an end-to-end [document] transaction."
"The beauty is the response time. It is very good nowadays within the platform."
"Centralized our business documents."
"It has a very broad market share and a lot of people know about it."
"It is used by large enterprises. It has to be scalable and robust for them to use. We have seen that on multiple projects over the years."
"The key feature for us is that it keeps our content store small. That helps our DBAs when they have to do the backups of our audit system, or of the content store."
"Instead storing our documents offsite, we are storing all of our documents electronically."
"If we run into problems, which is inevitable (and we run into problems all the time), we get quick responses and good solutions back from the technical support."
"Mobius excels in ensuring data security for captured content, which is crucial."
"It provides a single pane of glass for delivering content from multiple repositories. It is also highly recommended because of the ease of use when it comes to searching and retrieving from multiple repositories simultaneously."
"Mobius excels in ensuring data security for captured content, which is crucial."
"This solution has improved our organization by providing a central repository for business data with control over sensitive data."

Cons

"The initial setup is complex. It is complex because there are several pieces of software that have to be installed in the right order to make it work alright."
"The usability is fair. It could be a bit better. It could be better designed. They could put more effort into the user experience and do a better job of integrating other components, like Datacap, to be a bit more seamless."
"I would like to see the dashboard be a little bit more robust and a little more user-friendly"
"This solution could be improved with the ability to present the file system from FileNet."
"There is some confusion with FileNet workflow. It's not really going into the next level. They are probably replacing it with BPM's workflow. So there's an issue of clarity, the vision for going forward."
"I would like to see in FileNet integrated with Watson, which can read something and send it without any human contact or interaction."
"In Content Navigator we want to see the ability to view different types of video... We are using HTML 5 but it's very limited... We definitely want to see support for most types of video formats in the market."
"I would say the installation process can be very complicated, and you need to to have an experience resource."
"The setup and the support could be improved when it comes to populating the reports from a mainframe environment."
"The primary area for improvement is the platform's accessibility."
"If it were up to me, I wouldn't use Mobius due to its lack of accessibility and outdated interface."
"Sales and service need to be more consistent."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The platform is inexpensive."
"The licensing cost of FileNet is comparable."
"Talking about the cost is difficult because IBM has offers that combine different products, and each of these offers has different types of licensing. IBM also has a policy that the actual price for a given customer may be very different from the stated book price. It's hard to say whether it's expensive or not."
"FileNet is quite expensive, although Documentum is expensive too."
"My customers have seen ROI. There have been productivity gains, time savings gains, and things that they have been doing much more efficiently in a more modern way than they were before."
"The cost is about $40,000, plus yearly maintenance."
"For small scale industries, they allow different options. They can do open source. It is the complexity of the data security that they should think about before they choose."
"1. It will be more expensive than estimated to setup. 2. You will need to double the staff while you are running the old system and installing the new system. 3. Depending on the number of documents to be migrated, make sure you understand the potentially massive amount of time and effort required to migrate the existing content to the new platform."
"The pricing and licensing are commensurate with other solutions in the market that handle a distributed system environment."
