The solution's initial setup is neither complex nor too easy. Around six or seven people, including database administrators, were involved in the solution's deployment. On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a four to five out of ten.

Data management consolidation improves efficiency and user coordination
The licenses are too expensive compared to before, which is why customers are now preferring other data metadata management tools like OneTrust, Collibra, and Azure Purview. As a matter of POC, they are assessing whether their requirements can meet data governance initiatives. The need for skilled professionals is increasing, but cost remains a significant consideration for organizations when implementing CDGC. If a budget is allocated and they are satisfied with the Informatica CDGC license price, then it is a very good tool to implement. Regarding improvements, besides the price, the advanced clusters feature in CDGC needs attention. There are advanced scanners features present in both on-premise and cloud, but the setup isn't straightforward; there are lots of dependencies to consider. For instance, an SAP connector dealing with CDGC isn't simple. There are precautions and prerequisites that must be followed; otherwise, it won't work easily compared to the Oracle connector. Thus, resources need to be handled carefully with the advanced scanner configuration guide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like the features compared to other tools, as this tool is more flexible to use than other tools like an Oracle product or SAP product, and I think IBM tools are more flexible, and this tool is also a good product."
"Data archiving saved much storage and improved production performance."
"Data masking features are the most valuable, as non-production environments are used by diverse parties and data privacy has to be guaranteed."
"Reduces the need to keep expanding data storage Faster query performance with shorter batch execution times Consistent data masking and data integrity in non-production environments Efficient test data management"
"Data archiving reduces application performance issues and storage."
"Data masking with consistency across databases and applications is the most valuable feature."
"IBM Optim solutions are highly scalable."
"The Data Archive or Data Growth feature is one of the very useful solutions that help organizations to manage and support their database archiving strategies."
"The process of using the tool's scalability option is well documented."
"The use case is embedding the data or the business glossary into the day-to-day workflow, for example, integrating it with Tableau so when people are looking at a Tableau report, they understand exactly what the data lineage is, where this data is coming from, and exactly what those business glossary terms mean so they can more accurately interpret and analyze the report."
"The cost of the product is high, but feature wise, it provides a whole lot of features that can easily solve your problems."
"The valuable feature is that we can automate the integration part...It is a stable solution."
"Server maintenance, server hosting, backup, restoration, and DB capabilities are not needed in the cloud."
"It's good for tool management, maintaining the golden record of customer status."
"The solution provides increased efficiency while still being user-friendly and easy to operate."
"It has become an easy way to exchange information through any cloud application."

Cons

"I would like to be able to combine different masking functions on the same column map, making more complex masking without the need to write a Lua procedure."
"The tool does not support new test data generation."
"In the IBM Optim tool, the Synthetic Test Data Generation feature is lagging behind."
"The tool needs to have more test data management features like synthetic data generation and data reservation."
"TDM's efficiency in terms of generating reports needs improvement. It could work faster."
"I would like to be able to combine different masking functions on the same column map, making more complex masking without the need of writing an Lua procedure."
"Installation is too cumbersome."
"In the past, we have waited months for IBM to resolve the problem."
"We haven't had many technical issues. We don't use all of the components of the tool that are more complex and error-prone."
"I have received feedback from certain teams and there is a steep learning curve to use this solution."
"The tool's performance is an area that should be given further consideration."
"One thing Informatica could improve is the way IPUs are used."
"The product requires more polishing and hardening."
"The cloud version of the Informatica, it's a very substandard product. They might say it's enterprise-ready but it's not at all ready. They need to add more features, such as improved data replication features. If you look at other tools, such as Matillion they are now cloud-native and flexible. Additionally, Informatica Cloud Data Integration should have a good migration strategy from Informatica PowerCenter to Informatica Cloud Data Integration."
"I feel the out-of-the-box APIs or the API management could be improved slightly from their current state. It could be more user-friendly."
"Informatica Axon needs more integration connectors so that it can connect to systems and different kinds of datasets."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You have to pay yearly for the license, which comes at a reduced cost. The monthly payment option for a shorter project duration is also good."
"We purchase TDM's yearly license."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is famously known for its high price. The vendor targets large enterprises, and not medium or small companies. These large companies, and organizations, handle large amounts of data. If you go into any large bank, such as American or Canadian banks, these banks use this solution because it is more reliable, secure, and has more functionality."
"You pay for this solution based on IPUs, Informatica Processing Units. This depends on how much data you process and how much memory you consume from the cloud provider, and you pay as you go."
"I rate Informatica MDM's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"The price is very high and has become a big concern for our customers who require the solution in order for their business to function smoothly."
"The licensing costs attached to the solution are pretty high, but then, with the cloud model, the prices depend on what it provides for the value of money, which I feel was very high."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing nine and a half out of ten."
"It is cost effective and an easily accessible tool."
"The pricing structure is good, but having to pay for extra drivers to be used in an ICS environment makes me a little nervous."
