Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

The tool needs to improve in the areas of security, though it is a versatile product
Inflectra Rapise needs to expand its ability. I spoke with Inflectra's executive account rep on the need to expand the tool's ability. The problem with Inflectra Rapise is that a lot of companies are still using SAP GUI. Inflectra has no intention of building Rapise in a way that allows it to interact with SAP GUI. Inflectra Rapise has very limited value for the companies I work with because they they still use SAP GUI since their top priority is SAP testing, and they want to get into automation, for which they need a tool that cannot only used to automate processes, but can also do end-to-end testing where you are not only using SAP GUI, but you are using the interface with old legacy systems that are still in use or with today's more modern technologies. In the future, the tool needs to increase its versatility. If I am at a company that uses 23 different technologies, like .NET Visual Basic, Oracle, SQL, or whatever, Inflectra Rapise needs to be made as a product that is an out-of-the-box usable tool for any technology.

Has raised concerns due to outdated framework and high ownership costs
Pega Robotic Process Automation is a temporary solution to a bigger issue, and the cost of implementation especially with Pega really stops customers from proceeding. The total cost of ownership could be improved. From a technical perspective, the product performs adequately. The installation can be quite complex as it's not standalone, and customers need to get the whole Pega platform up and running. The total cost of ownership is not very attractive. RPA as a concept is outdated now, with agentic AI becoming more prominent. We don't see much interest from customers in going down the RPA route; Pega Robotic Process Automation is losing its prominence in the market.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Automation Anywhere has lots of features, some of them are accuracy increases, time consumption reduced, scalability. Automation Anywhere does not require a strong knowledge of programming languages. The dashboard is user-friendly."
"Automation Anywhere uses a single dashboard that you can access anywhere, and it also provides more insights versus other products, which is an advantage of using Automation Anywhere."
"It has helped us to save a lot of FTEs for our solutions that we have provided to our companies. Suppose a job which was done by a group of eight to nine people on a daily basis for 24 hours was taking a lot of time, so we created a bot with Automation Anywhere. It was done with a bot working 24/7. It reduced the numbers of guys required to do that process."
"The ease of use is its most valuable feature."
"We are using it to backfill a lot of our resources who are retiring, so we are hiring less people as we go."
"The product is easy to use. It is a good tool for developers and business users."
"Being able to implement automation is valuable. We take the business logic and provide a solution to the client. Defining the intelligence pipeline is the most interesting and challenging aspect for me."
"With this innovative tool's automation, it is very dynamic, easy to develop, and deliver results quickly."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its versatility."
"The first time I used Rapise I completed the automation scripts for a full application in a day and I was shocked how easy it was."
"It's incredible but the support and maintenance of Inflectra Rapise's scripts is less than 30% of the effort that was involved in maintaining Selenium, it is very easy and this is the reason that we are switching everything that needs handling from Selenium to Inflectra Rapise, as it is easy to maintain and provides a benefit in cost and efforts with a 90% reduction factor in the maintenance of the scripts."
"The scripting of this tool is easy and user friendly."
"Rapise is a good automation tool that's easy to use and learn, and you can share scripts as a team, which is very helpful."
"The initial setup was straightforward; it wasn't complex at all, and we found it nice and easy."
"We always use the product for end-to-end automation test cases."
"It's pretty straightforward to set up."
"They are leaders in the same industry."
"The data entry and the automation of data entry are the most valuable aspects of the product, as it was very smooth and very seamless to create automations with no scope for any errors, making it really error-free and very helpful for us."
"The good thing about Pega is that it is very flexible and you can do a lot so the capabilities are broad."
"The feature I like best in Pega Robotic Process Automation is that I'm able to add external DLL section codes. I can inject the JavaScript, and I can write VB.NET, C#.NET, and DLL codes, then inject those codes into the existing process. Mainly, from a development perspective, I like that feature a lot, so if anything is not supported by Pega Robotic Process Automation, then I can build that either in JavaScript or in .NET, then use those functions within the IP."
"With Pega Robotics, once we integrated it will work with any machines after deployment until there is a change."
"Its stability has been good."
"The number of human steps that have been eliminated is significant, and we try to maximize straight-through processing."
"The tech support is highly available and there is plenty of online training available."

Cons

"The setup is complex because there is a lot of customization."
"Also, the Master certification should be provided free of cost for partners."
"Product support for our customers needs improvement. They should increase the support personnel."
"I would like to see integration better integration with Excel and SAP."
"For improvement, I would like to see Automation Anywhere integrating with multiple other technologies. As of now, it is integrating with .NET. When it come to future technologies, I want Automation Anywhere to integrate with Python scripts, and make the execution easier. That will be very helpful, having our cognitive technologies interacting with Automation Anywhere."
"It is good for standard procedures with an SOP. For those, it works well. But there are processes that are tricky and need human intervention and intelligence. In those cases, the process gets stuck."
"The areas that need improvement are the license management, user access permission, user role access management, and technical support."
"They sell every different functionality in too many separate packages, making the procurement process complicated as it requires paying additional licensing for more features."
"The maintenance is very difficult."
"The maintenance is very difficult. We've only been using the platform for three months, so I'm not sure if that will continue, but right now it's an observation I've had."
"I faced one problem where it can't validate the colour of images and text. Also, it could not automate the mobile app, and this needs to be included."
"It has some stability issues where the tool crashes sometimes on Windows 10."
"Inflectra Rapise needs to expand its ability."
"What I have noticed about Rapise is that sometimes when you keep on using the same script, it fails many times."
"It would be good if there could be more integration of Inflectra Rapise, since not all customers use the same tool for test management and automation integration."
"When there are failures in a nightly run of batches of scripts, it can create a blocking situation where all the following scripts will fail due to unexpected results."
"The way integration classes are created could be improved."
"The orchestration needs to be better."
"Excel connectors need to be improved as there are a few connectors in Excel areas."
"I feel like it doesn't get updated frequently enough. There aren't a lot of new features or a clear roadmap for future improvements."
"Ease of use could probably be improved."
"Pega Robotic Process Automation scalability is too low."
"It's difficult not knowing when alerts will arrive."
"Rule versioning and deployment to enable parallel development could still be improved"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's justified because we have saved quite a bit of money at the company and many manual hours. Overall, it justifies the cost."
"The pricing and licensing are definitely moderate to costly but easily recoverable by achieving ROI quickly."
"There are a lot of savings in terms of effort and time as well as costs. Automation Anywhere automates a lot of processes. It allows an organization to save the efforts of a lot people. It saves a lot of time because people can't work a whole day (24/7), but Automation Anywhere bots can."
"One of the things that will be good for the community will be to get the free version to download, which came out just a month ago called Community Edition. So, you can actually download it and try it for yourself."
"I would rate the price of Automation Anywhere a six out of ten, with ten being the most expensive."
"It is the most economically friendly and it provides you with a lot of functions."
"We only deal in annual licenses. There are no pay-as-you-go licenses."
"I find the license pricing to be competitive and reflective of the pricing models throughout the RPA space, and I believe there is a lot of value in continuing to maintain the free community edition platform."
"We pay no more than $50 annually for support of each one of the licenses."
"I rate the product's price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where ten means very good pricing."
"The licensing cost is too high."
"Pega Robotic Process Automation is an expensive solution."
"Pega is pretty costly."
"In terms of Pega Robotic Process Automation pricing, I would rate it a five out of five because the solution has a good price. Pricing is not very high, though I'm unsure of the exact cost, based on my experience, the price for Pega Robotic Process Automation is less than Blue Prism because I worked with a few clients that have both solutions and my clients prefer Pega Robotic Process Automation over Blue Prism particularly because of the licensing costs."
"Pega is as competitive as the basic players such as UiPath or Automation Anywhere. UiPath is the most expensive, but Pega is at par with Automation Anywhere."
"I would rate the product's pricing a nine out of ten."
"I was not involved in licensing and pricing, but it is worth the cost."
