Achieve comprehensive data protection with reliable performance and room for enhanced discovery accuracy
The product is still in a growing phase. I could see that many use cases in their product are not capable enough in terms of detecting or protecting. Compared to other products, they are in the middle of bringing their solution up to the mark, so it is not a full-grown solution. They have to get more accurate results in terms of data discovery and classification. The second thing is their support; support from Microsoft takes a lot of time to get a response from their support team. The third thing is their OCR capability is not that great in terms of identifying the documents. We would love to see response times of less than 24 hours. Additionally, there is no way to check the policy's current status in terms of whether it got synced or not. You have to wait and test the use cases after 24 hours or after 48 hours, and once it starts working, then it appears the policy got implemented.

Legacy backup works well with good UI and amazing support
I use it for backup and virtual machines, and the databases are on-premises and in the cloud It's a good solution. It's been in business a long time working with backup. I love it for legacy backup work, I think so. I need more options for virtualization. I know it's good for virtualization, but…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The features my clients request most are sensitivity labels and data loss prevention. Additionally, I am trying to interest them in risk management and insider risk management, although those features are considered more advanced."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Purview Information Protection is its ability to respond to sensitive data shared on Teams chat by deleting the message, not just monitoring or logging."
"The first thing is that it is easy to use, the second is that the requirement with the client is more focused from the security perspective which is also mitigated by this particular tool, and the third thing is that not only I, but my team is also quite comfortable in working with Microsoft Purview Information Protection."
"I created training materials for end users on applying different labels, explaining their purposes, and providing examples. This was crucial since end users would apply the labels in different protection scenarios. The implementation helped the organization in several ways."
"We use the solution for our customers' services. It helps identify and protect sensitive data in documents, PDFs, emails, and Teams chats to prevent data leakage. It can detect and block emails containing credit card information sent outside the organization."
"Incorporating data loss prevention capabilities built into the Microsoft platform to endpoints, such as Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers, can also help prevent data loss and is highly advantageous."
"Microsoft Purview Information Protection supports data classification, sensitivity labels, and data loss prevention."
"Before using it, we had a lot of unlabeled data, and the tool helped us quickly and accurately label a large number of documents."
"The stability has been great."
"Veritas Data Insight has been instrumental in managing and categorizing data across our storage repository. The tool identifies valuable business data and distinguishes it from non-essential data. This capability empowers us to separate and exclude unnecessary data from our long-term retention strategy. Its valuable feature is alert mitigation."
"It's a good solution."
"I love Veritas support."
"The features I find most valuable in Veritas Data Insight include its exceptional speed in classifying unstructured data and its user risk-scoring functionality."
"The most valuable features of Veritas Data Insight are the ease of use, one console deployment for the administration, and backups that can be done in minutes. It is a very fast solution."
"Data Insight is a good product to do everything. It is kind of transparent to administrators. It is also a very good solution with regards to GDPR compliance and regulations. Veritas is a well-established company, and it has a long legacy. Veritas solutions have expected stability and flexibility. It supports most of the flexible solutions in the market and has support for data protection, data monitoring, and things like that. In these ransomware times, it is a very important company with good solutions."

Cons

"I wouldn't recommend Microsoft Purview Information Protection for petabytes of documents as performance might be affected."
"A lot of functionality in Microsoft Purview Information Protection is not exposed in an API officially yet, which has made a lot of implementation work difficult because we have to do click ops instead of DevOps."
"Purview could better integrate with third-party tools, but I don't have a specific use case for that because It's currently integrated into the managed services we offer to Microsoft customers using E5 licenses."
"There should be more training and communication regarding new features. I may be missing those communications, but it often seems like changes happen in the Purview portal without notice. Having a roadmap or updates about new releases would be helpful for demonstrating to clients. If things are constantly changing, I sometimes look silly when I log in, and things have moved or changed."
"I had experience with previous versions of Microsoft Purview Information Protection as well. The new version doesn't have all the features that were present in the previous native clients and functionalities. For example, the ability to track documents - knowing where your document is, who is accessing it, when and where. You could even revoke access to a particular document if needed, which was a cool feature. These aren't available right now, although Microsoft is working on bringing them back, which might take some time."
"Scalability is affected by the time it takes to update policies."
"During the initial setup, I found the lack of policy segregation at the sub-site level for DLP policies to be a challenge."
"We don't trust Microsoft Purview Information Protection yet."
"I need more options for virtualization. I know it's good for virtualization, but another product might be easier to work with, like sending to VendCap and Restore."
"The solution is not lacking any features at this time."
"Veritas Data Insight's reporting capabilities require enhancement."
"I need more options for virtualization."
"Its deployment can be a little bit complex. It should be easier to set up. The ease of use of this solution can also be improved, and it could have a cleaner, up-to-date, and intuitive GUI. There are a lot of competitors out there with much nicer GUI and easier setup. It should have a better connection with the cloud sources and much more monitoring. I would like to have a single management interface for on-premises and cloud deployments so that we don't have to switch between them. Its technical support can also be a little bit better."
"Veritas Data Insight can improve the price."
"The nature of both data processing and start processes often involves varying timeframes for retrieval, mainly dependent on the historical data being accessed. When the request involves pulling information from six months or two years ago, the process may take longer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing and setup costs are transferred to my clients, who find it affordable and are satisfied with what they receive."
"The tool's pricing is fairly low, less than 100,000 for a year."
"The price is determined by the enterprise licensing, either the E3 or E5 licensing or the EMS plus security and other feature licensing."
"The product is affordable, and our clients agree. Sensitivity labels come with the MIP license at an additional $2 a month per user, an excellent deal for auto-labeling capabilities."
"Initially, Purview's cost seemed quite high because it was for personal use. I was scanning a tiny tenant and thinking, "If I extrapolate this to an enterprise-scale tenant, it will be quite costly." However, I talked to people who had compared it to other products on the market, and they're spending five figures to get started. At least, Purview has a free trial, so you can try some of the features early on."
"The tool's pricing is not a problem for customers because they often purchase it as part of a bundle. With an E5 license, for example, users get access to the entire functionality. This is one of the main reasons why many customers are choosing Microsoft."
"Licensing is based on the number of users or the usage in terabytes."
"For Veritas Data Insight, the usage is based on a per-terabyte model. The annual cost for this usage is approximately one million dollars. It would be roughly 50,000 dollars to provide a more accurate equivalent."
"The solution is cost-effective."
"The price of Veritas Data Insight could improve, it is expensive."
"It is my understanding that the license with one year of support is, per user, around 25 Euros."
