Enables seamless integration with multiple systems
I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten. It's not much more dynamic, not as dynamic as you may think, like seeing it in the cloud. In order to use it, you need to have the download servers and then scale up your systems. Oracle SOA Suites serves as a middle layer between applications. For example, let's say you have SAP, and we have Salesforce or Oracle ERP system. Users connect to those systems and perform certain activities or transactions on the applications. Now, if any data needs to be synchronized or any integration needs to happen between these applications, we use the Oracle SOA Suite. It acts as the bridge between the applications, not between the users. It's like having endpoints between the applications. Currently, we have 20 endpoints; 20 systems are connected to it, which is great. Oracle SOA Suite is being used daily. We are using it to its maximum potential.

Efficiently monitor networks across regions with seamless setup and robust feature set
PRTG Network Monitor is easy to set up. Within a few minutes, it is operational. It is an all-in-one monitoring solution without extra costs. For example, we set it up for an insurance company with branches across Africa. We are able to monitor from Lagos without installing anything in the branches, using the agentless feature. We just put in the IP address and the parameter, and we monitor from those ends. Additionally, all the sensors are very useful. Most people are interested in the bandwidth monitoring sensor to see what bandwidth the users are consuming. The pricing is affordable compared to SolarWinds.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Enables our Product Manager to post products to different outside EC platforms with only one interface and one process."
"I would rate my experience with the initial setup an eight out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy."
"This is one of the critical products for my company and we use it extensively. We currently use each and every feature of Oracle SOA."
"What I like best about Oracle SOA Suite is Oracle support. I also like the tool features, especially the integration feature."
"In Oracle SOA Suite some applications are not able to use REST, but it can support both SOAP and REST. You're able to integrate quite a lot of systems, which may not be able to in other solutions. You can also use XML and JSON. It is a standardizing type of tool. It doesn't matter whether I'm using JSON or XML, it can convert them."
"In case there is something that doesn't work out of the box, you have the flexibility to customize it."
"Valuable features include connectors and BAM."
"The new product has come out with SOA Cloud Service and Integration Analytics as well, which gives more options for clients to pick their point of requirements."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"I found PRTG Network Monitor very useful for troubleshooting and monitoring the utilization of either the network or server."
"PRTG is relatively intuitive and fairly straightforward. It has net flow monitoring and that works all right. I would describe it as a decent middle-of-the-road solution."
"The best feature is that it lets me know what is going on. I need to know if something has gone down, I need to know if something is running very slowly. PRTG tells me that."
"The sensors and probes are great, nice and lightweight, they don't take up too many resources on the system. We just deploy them out and they start reporting instantly."
"The real-time monitoring and alerting are its most valuable features."
"We have asked questions of their technical support and they have a very good response time."
"The email notifications are helpful, and the dashboards are user-friendly for people with little network monitoring knowledge."

Cons

"Its function options can be improved."
"Another area of improvement is performance. Because with multiple solutions connecting to the SOA platform, the performance of the SOA platform can be affected in time. So, that could be one area that could be improved with the SOA."
"An important area that can be improved is the product's data monitoring. When we use the solution for interfacing or end-to-end data monitoring, we want to know exactly where the data is going and exactly where it is failing, or where there is an issue."
"It's also not developer-friendly."
"The interface is too complicated. Making modifications still requires too much technical knowledge."
"SOA"
"The technical support is good, we have premier support which costs extra."
"The solution’s initial setup is complex and could be improved."
"The product could be improved by being cross-platform friendly."
"I would like to see network mapping."
"PRTG Network Monitor needs to enhance network performance monitoring."
"I've encountered a challenge in my functions, particularly in adding and printing."
"I would like to see them take their graphing tools and convert them into a collector so that we can point telemetry to them"
"PRTG Network Monitor can improve by adding prevention and detection features."
"The clustering aspect needs improvement, as there is a bit of confusion about you do when hit that 5000 probe mark."
"I would like a more straightforward ability to create dashboards and maps. The network maps should be a bit more flexibility in the GUI to do what we need to do."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution."
"Based on my knowledge, Oracle SOA Suite doesn't have user-based licensing. It has a system-based licensing model, so you pay for whole systems. Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution, so it's a four out of ten for me."
"It is necessary to evaluate the requirement regarding the platform usage and what the main operation area of the platform will be."
"The product is moderately priced."
"This product is WebLogic based, hence it can be both resource hungry as well as expensive from a licensing point of view."
"The pricing is not very high as compared to its competitors."
"Oracle pricing is expensive. Support is based on your license. AWS is much better than Oracle in this regard."
"The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
"The price of PRTG is reasonable. PRTG's competitors like SolarWinds and ManageEngine charge more for the same functionality."
"At the moment I'm only using 500 sensors. I pay yearly, so it's a cost that's easily swallowed."
"The pricing for PRTG in our case is reasonable because we have a lot of applications to monitor within PRTG. It is not that expensive."
"It is expensive."
"We bought a license for 4000 sensors."
"When you have a lot of devices, PRTG Network Monitor can be costly."
"We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free. For now, we only need to monitor less than 100 devices. For more than 100 devices, we would need to buy a license. PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."

Nagios vs. Zabbix vs. PRTG vs. Spiceworks vs. Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor
I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want…

PRTG is quite basic for this type of application monitoring, it'll give you some general metrics but what you're asking for is better done with Nagios, though its architecture and the information it provides won't give you the best metrics either. In this case your safest bet would be Zabbix, although both Nagios and Zabbix will steal a lot of your time until you can tune them to the detail lev...

PRTG is a network monitoring tool that uses SNMP protocol. You can configure weblogic server to use SNMP protocol to communicate with PRTG using agents. The same thing for Oracle ESB, by enabling SNMP traps in the Oracle Servcie bus. I think your business requirement as well as budget, will determine which monitoring tool you can use. I think all network monitoring tools, using SNMP traps, can do the job. Any SW or applications can build an SNMP traps to communicate with the monitoring tool. You can consult Oracle's manuals for more details. I hope this will be helpful. All the best, Ashraf Galal

Hi, I've no experience with PRTG, but you can find that on their site: http://www.paessler.com/oracle_monitoring I used to practice some time ago Nagios, on Linux boxes with web Logic, and it adapted well to our needs. I'm no longer experimenting with supervision tools as i switched to backup and storage. Regards E.Boutang
