What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Never. This is the strength of the product.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Some minor issues such as feature bugs. They have all been solved by a support call or through a product update.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Before 6.0, yes, as the product was monolithic and didn't scale well. After 6.0, they changed the design to a scale-out design that fits any size. I haven't yet reached the limit of the product.
How are customer service and support?
Customer Service:
8/10.
Technical Support:8/10 as they are pretty reactive and can engage in cross-vendor problem resolution, which is is not the way with all their competitors. Regarding the fact it is a backup solution, this is a crucial point for me.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
- VMWare VDR
- Symantec NetBackup
- VizionCore
They were either too slow or too buggy to have a reliable backup solution.
How was the initial setup?
It was straightforward, and this is the DNA of this product. It is very simple to install and to operate.
What about the implementation team?
It was installed in-house within a few hours. I now work for a vendor and I have installed the product for hundreds of customers.
What was our ROI?
At the time I was a customer, it took something like three months because of a big storage system outage. Moreover, their pricing is based on the number of CPU sockets in your virtualization environment. I would even say that the longer you use the product, the cheaper it becomes. This is due to the core density of newer CPUs - we aren't buying more CPUs, just CPUs with more cores.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I think enterprise level is a good way to go if you don't have 3PAR or NetApp storage in-house; otherwise, switch to Enterprise Plus to have the best-in-class backup solution at the moment.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We compared our existing solutions to Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
Just give it a try. Download the product, install-it and test it. The best way to know what it can do and what it can't is to test it through a proof of concept.

Affordable and reliable general hypervisor management with significant lack of customer support
Pros and Cons
- "Veeam ONE has proven to be a reliable tool not just for backups but also for general hypervisor management."
- "I am highly dissatisfied with their customer support approach."
What is our primary use case?
Our customers were seeking an affordable monitoring solution. We noticed that traditional options like VMware's Operations Manager are quite expensive, so we found a more budget-friendly alternative. Veeam ONE has proven to be a reliable tool not just for backups but also for general hypervisor management.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the capacity planning aspect of the solution.
What needs improvement?
There are not enough charts and diagrams available. Other solutions, such as VMware's vRealize, offer a more extensive range of charts and diagrams for monitoring the environment. Enhancing the user experience, particularly in terms of providing more comprehensive chart and diagram options, would be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with it for more than ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It offers good stability capabilities. I would rate it eight out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
I am highly dissatisfied with their customer support approach. When we face a certain issue, they simply provide a website link and expect us to resolve the problem on our own. If the issue persists, we need to revert to them for further assistance. This process can be time-consuming when dealing with problems. This differs significantly from our experiences with other vendors, like Nutanix. For instance, when we open a support case with Nutanix, they not only provide a dedicated web portal but also offer direct assistance tailored to our company's specific situation. This approach is notably more effective. I would rate it five out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I learned about Veeam ONE before exploring other solutions, and I have found it to be a highly cost-effective option when compared to alternative solutions.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. I would rate it nine out of ten.
What about the implementation team?
The deployment process took approximately one week because, following the initial setup, we held several technical meetings to fine-tune the configuration to align with the specific requirements of the customer's use case.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's an extremely cost-effective solution. I would rate it three out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
It is an excellent solution, incredibly user-friendly and manageable. I would highly recommend it based on its robust features and ease of use. The main issue lies in the quality of customer support. I would rate it seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Chief Technology Officer at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Great snapshots and good special features with the ability to adapt the design
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is stable and the performance is good."
- "The initial setup is complex."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is based on the IAF solutions that are specific for moving the data centers that we have to the cloud. This is the main tension for us right now. We are investing in some past solutions, however, we're not using them yet. There are some tests, some small tests, however, we are moving IAF solutions in order to move our data centers.
What is most valuable?
We like Veeam as it is the kind of backup that has basic snapshots. It's very useful for us as we have a lot of virtual servers. This is the most impressive thing that we see.
There are some special features from Veeam. They have the replication and the kind of backup that we can use. We have a very strong solution in the network. Due to the fact that we have several internal DMS's, we needed to make a special design. Veeam adapted to that. That's why we choose it. With all the solutions, it was not possible to use the actual network structure that we had. Veeam made it possible.
The solution is stable and the performance is good.
The product can scale.
What needs improvement?
For us, it's important that the products can be adapted to different network scenarios. This is the biggest problem. The issues that we had when we selected the products were due to the specifics on the network from a security point of view. Security for us is the most important feature that we need to work with. THey need to ensure that it's possible to secure the network.
The initial setup is complex.
We use several proxies, reverse proxies, due to our needs. It's not so common. There's not too much information and it's not so useful. They could develop it more and they could market it better. Not many users have this scenario. The reverse proxy, for us, was an important piece to implement. If a user has a good view of the reverse proxying during the implementation, it's better.
For how long have I used the solution?
The solution has been implemented in the company for about one year at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable. We needed to buy the biggest server to accommodate it. The requirements were very high. That's why we started late when they decided to use it. However, after we followed the recommendations and followed the certification of equipment servers and storage that we needed, it's okay. Now we find it's very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is very good. Everybody uses it. In general, we have about 125,000 people using it.
We likely will increase usage in the future.
How are customer service and support?
We needed some technical support at the start. It was good. Here in Brazil, they are from Brazil and they have helped us too in the design phase. That said, the product is very good. We don't need exactly support for any issue that we found. We've only needed some help for the implementation, the start of the design.
How was the initial setup?
In terms of the implementation, it's still being rolled out. It's very big and there is a very sparse structure that we have. It's global. It will take about two years for it to be completely implemented, due to the places and locations we need to implement it. We need to make and design for each place as it is not standard. That's why it takes a long time. We prefer to take it in parts to be careful with the implementation, in order to see if it's really what we want. Therefore, for us, the setup is quite complex.
The results have been good so far. People are liking it very much. That said, we still have some designs to do for other places that we have implemented.
Due to the implementation, we are doing, there are about 50 people working on the deployment. This is just an estimation. It's quite a large project.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay the licensing fees on a yearly basis. There may be a few additional costs, however, I cannot speak to those exactly. Our technical team might have a better idea of what is involved in terms of licensing arrangements.
We tried the base license, however, it's my understanding that it wasn't enough and we needed a bit more.
What other advice do I have?
We are a Veeam partner.
In terms of types of deployments used, at this time it's been working more on-premises, however, we have intentions to use the cloud. We are moving several loads to the cloud.
I would advise new users that the design is the most important piece. There are several options in the ways that you can implement it. My recommendation is to look at the strategy. Networking becomes very important. Having a good design at the outset makes things easier.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Director of Business Development at lancloud
Provides granular restoration, has good replication features, and scales well
Pros and Cons
- "The granular restoration that it provides for a business application is most valuable. For example, for Exchange, we can restore a single mailbox or email. We can also do SQL Server restoration and bare-metal recovery for operating systems."
- "Veeam currently lacks features for backing up to network-attached storage. Veeam Backup & Replication agents do not support S3 storage. Only Veeam Backup & Replication server supports S3 storage."
What is our primary use case?
It is for backup and disaster recovery as a service. It is deployed in our data center, and then we sell the service to our customers.
What is most valuable?
The granular restoration that it provides for a business application is most valuable. For example, for Exchange, we can restore a single mailbox or email. We can also do SQL Server restoration and bare-metal recovery for operating systems.
Replication features are very useful for customers. They can recover the services and move from one data center to another.
What needs improvement?
Veeam currently lacks features for backing up to network-attached storage. Veeam Backup & Replication agents do not support S3 storage. Only Veeam Backup & Replication server supports S3 storage.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for about five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Its stability is good. I would rate it an eight out of 10 in terms of stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It scales well. I would rate it an eight out of 10 in terms of scalability.
In our infrastructure, we have hundreds of users. Our customers are from many markets, but its users are from their IT department.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate them an eight out of 10.
How was the initial setup?
It is not complex. It is straightforward. We can deploy it to our customers in about 1 to 2 hours or 1 to 2 days. It depends on a customer's infrastructure.
What about the implementation team?
We deploy it ourselves, and we only use support when we have technical issues with the product. We have three engineers for deployment.
What was our ROI?
It is very difficult to calculate because it is a backup solution. It is not a business service, which makes it very difficult to calculate the ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are fine with its pricing policy.
We provide service for our customers, and the licensing is on a monthly basis. They get licenses, computer resources, and our support. Everything is included in a single price.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise others to test this product before buying it. There are many backup products and services, and they have different features and functionalities. We provide our customers a 30-days trial period to test the product for free, and then they can agree or not agree to use this product.
I would rate it an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Senior Data Center Administrator at a manufacturing company with 501-1,000 employees
Enables backup and replication with easy-to-use administration
Pros and Cons
- "From my experience, Veeam is very good. Its interface is user-friendly. We can restore it whenever. It's not complicated. It's very easy to manage and administration is very easy."
- "When you have some small issues, you should be able to go through it by yourself and solve the issue instead of opening the ticket and waiting for the engineers to troubleshoot."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case is backup and replication. This solution is a backup, so it is used on-premises.
What is most valuable?
From my experience, Veeam is very good. Its interface is user-friendly. We can restore it whenever. It's not complicated. It's very easy to manage and administration is very easy.
What needs improvement?
Veeam should go for a different version of a hypervisor. For example, they are concentrating on Microsoft Hyper-V and on VMware. There are some virtualizations there, like AHV Nutanix. In that case, they need to rebuild application-wise. I checked with an AHV for my personal knowledge, and I couldn't find the same as in the VMware and Hyper-V. It's totally different. It opens with a different port.
They need to do some repository and improve the backup chain and logs. For example, sometimes we still need to call support for small things, and they're looking for the log.
In this case, they need to give some training to the administrators. It should be easy. In this case, there are some knowledge bases. If you go to the Veeam site, you will see the knowledge bases, but there should be a little awareness. Administrator awareness should come up for that, like with the small issues and how you want to replicate. When you have some small issues, you should be able to go through it by yourself and solve the issue instead of opening the ticket and waiting for the engineers to troubleshoot.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It was scalable.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is amazing.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Veeam is totally different from Veritas when it comes to virtualization and virtual machines. For Veritas, we are just using the standalone, physical servers.
Veritas is good for a small environment. We are taking more backups in Veeam only, and we're only taking some backups in Veritas, which is like a physical server.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost is expensive. It will depend on how you are managing your environment, your requirements, and if you can easily manage a license. It's not that difficult, so you can manage it, but the cost is high, so you need to check directly with Veeam as well as the local partner so you can get the discount prices.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution 10 out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

System Administrator at a mining and metals company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Easily leverages backups for replication purposes
Pros and Cons
- "The features I find most valuable are probably the VMware snapshot backups and the Veeam replication. Their replication is very good. It can easily be used for disaster recovery in a number of situations."
- "They need a better solution for backend storage."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use for Veeam Backup & Replication is for enterprise backups and replication.
It's used pretty heavily by us.
What is most valuable?
The features I find most valuable are probably the VMware snapshot backups and the Veeam replication. Their replication is very good.
It can easily be used for disaster recovery in a number of situations.
I don't know how it would compare to Zerto, for example, but considering that it can leverage backups for replication purposes, this makes it superior to either a backup product or a replication product. The fact that you can mix and match, for example, you can replicate off of a backup or off of a backup copy somewhere else, or off of the source machine directly, makes it superior for me.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what could be improved, they need a better solution for backend storage. Other backup products that I've used, like Commvault, have at least a disc based backup. If you don't have a D duplicating appliance, like Commvault who has its own duplication engine, it's doing its best to duplicate data going into the repository. Veeam is not very good at that. There is some level of data reduction, but it's not much. So if your backup targets don't have a good D duplication data reduction, it's a problem because you just create massive amounts of data on the backend.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I like that you can use any kind of disc target and you can use any kind of high speed fiber channel as backend.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to 10, I would say that Veeam Backup & Replication is one of the best, so I'd probably give it a nine. There is not one perfect backup product and I think one of the challenges with Veeam is the lack of clients. Meaning, we have certain older systems that there is no Veeam client for, and there's no incentive for Veeam to make the client for it. But it does VMware backups very well.

Product Manager Storage, Database and Backup & Replication at a tech company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Easy to install with good incremental backup capabilities and works for companies of various sizes
Pros and Cons
- "The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
- "There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
What is our primary use case?
I primarily use the solution for replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
It's basically BaaS, Backup as a Service in in physical and virtual environments,
and DRaaS, Disaster Recovery as a Service. It allows for backups on-premise.
What is most valuable?
The solution allows for incremental backup and incremental reverse. It's very helpful.
Overall, it's a good product. The tool is very important to our organization.
They've gone ahead and improved 90% of the tool. They have the software that we need and we've really enjoyed using them overall.
The solution is easy to install and the programming is pretty basic.
The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope.
What needs improvement?
In the future, I would like to see the product offer a full backup, virtual machines, and point systems as well as database and application power in the Veeam Backup. There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine.
For my client, bandwidth is a problem. We do not know the sizing of the environment and it's a problem in every RPO in the time of sizing. This is a big problem.
If the solution could offer a backup for SAN as part of its functionality, that would be a major advantage in comparison to other software companies. It is made for VMware. This is a specialty tool for VMware virtual machines. It would be ideal if it could also be for Veeam and you didn't have to leverage it via VMware.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about three years at this point.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We handle all sizes of company. It doesn't matter if it is medium, large, or small - including government organizations and banks, which can be quite sizable.
How are customer service and technical support?
I don't have too many tickets with Veeam, however, I do find it hard to communicate with them. They could be better in that sense. I do use them rarely, although I do have an open ticket right now.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I'm also using CloudConnect, as well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not overly complex. It's pretty easy to install. For us, the implementation is straightforward, as it is what we do. We handle implementations for a variety of clients.
What about the implementation team?
We handle the implementation ourselves for our clients. We don't need an implementor or consultant to help us.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have looked at other solutions in the past - for example, VMware.
The difference is in licensing. Veeam is licensed via a virtual machine or a physical machine. Other companies have a different setup.
However, VMware is very easy to use in terms of functionality, and the console makes it easier to create jobs from a backup.
What other advice do I have?
We are partners with Veeam.
We have the solution on-premise in our data center. I have platforms in VMware and Hyper-V.
I'd recommend the solution to other organizations. I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Systems Recovery Specialist at a legal firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
A single solution to effectively monitor all environments
Pros and Cons
- "The monthly reports come complete with graphs and summaries, it's really helpful."
- "The threshold could be easier to configure."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution on a daily basis to monitor all of our environments.
We use it for supplemental monitoring. Veeam ONE is based on our VMware. Although we receive alerts with VMware, Veeam ONE goes another step further with analysis.
With Veeam ONE, we're easily able to determine what has been impacted. For example, VMware will get an alert for an ESX host, and Veeam ONE will know exactly what VMs and what applications are impacted. It's not our primary source of monitoring, but when we have an issue, we go to Veeam ONE to figure out exactly where things are and to help us connect the dots.
What is most valuable?
The reporting features are great for our business and managers, It takes a lot of the guesswork out. The monthly reports come complete with graphs and summaries, it's really helpful.
What needs improvement?
The threshold could be easier to configure. I would like to see more automation and integration with their own backups. Currently, you can stop and start a backup, but it would be nice if you could initiate a reinstall using Veeam ONE.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for roughly six years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We experience problems with our SQL database. Our SQL database grew quite large in size with Veeam ONE. This is an area for improvement. They should also provide more guidance regarding calculating how big the environment might grow for the SQL database. We experienced a couple of issues where the Veeam ONE server went down because the SQL database grew too much, and we had to recreate it a couple of times. We don't quite understand how the Veeam ONE database works and what causes it to grow so quickly.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is responsive, however, there have been times when we have had problems, but the technical support will determine it's not a Veeam issue, so they just drop it. They will only help us if the issue is directly related to Veeam. They could go a bit further and give a few suggestions, but they don't. In some cases, we have to get both VMware support and Veeam support together on one call and go through our account rep to pressure them. They'll eventually do it, but you have to force their hand.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was quite straightforward. The Installation process was completed in one day.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We got the Veeam Enterprise Suite, which comes with Veeam ONE and Enterprise Manager. I'm not exactly sure what the pricing is.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam ONE is a great product. My main advice would definitely be to do a complete overview of the setup, and accurately design the database because otherwise, it will grow out of control.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
