Pros
"The features are powerful and better than F5.""Akamai Web Application Protector is a good solution that provides basic web application protection.""Everything will be handled by Akamai's system before it reaches our infrastructure.""The solution easily identifies, delays, or allows business traffic.""Adaptive stream delivery and WAF protection are valuable.""The CDN and the WAF features are the best.""We are getting security for each and every API.""All the solution's features are very good."

"With F5 Advanced WAF, it was protection for online publications and for our customers that caused us to choose the platform.""It's scalable and very easy to manage.""It is easy to obtain dashboard compliance because security policy views are included.""One of the most valuable features is the Local Traffic Manager.""The solution uses AI to protect against botnet attacks.""Customers find the load balancer feature as the most valuable.""The most valuable features of the F5 Advanced WAF are the enhanced ASM and the performance. Additionally, the usability and effectiveness are very good.""Good dashboard and reporting."

Cons
"Akamai needs to focus on quickly responding to risks, even those that may potentially be of zero threat..Maybe some of the documentation is a little confusing. They have a lot of different places where you can go to get information, and some of the information is quite out of date.""Customer support has room for improvement.""Support and the pricing need to improve.""There are some issues with pushing configurations across a network. It still takes about 20 minutes and that means to retract it's another 20 minutes.""The pricing could be reduced a bit.""We are experimenting with EdgeWorkers to write our own code at the Edge level. It could grow to be much better.""If we talk about application layer attacks, including WAF, CloudFlare is leading. Akamai can focus a bit more on the application layer attacks and how to protect them.""The WAF features definitely have a lot of room for improvement. A lot of the WAF is really basic. For some products or some of our solutions, we need to run a second layer of more advanced WAF. If it had better layer seven protection then we would not need a second WAF."

More Akamai App and API Protector Cons →

"There is a gap in report management.""The solution could improve by having an independent capture module. It has a built feature that you can deploy the capture on your published website. However, it's not very user-friendly. When you compare this feature to Google Capture or other enterprise captures, they are very simple. It needs a good connection to the F5 Advanced WAF sandbox. When you implement this feature in the data center, you may suffer some complications with connecting to the F5 Advanced WAF sandbox. This should be improved in the future.""The user interface (UI) seems a bit outdated. Making it more user-friendly would be beneficial.""There should be more ability to rate limit certain scenarios. The majority of the time, it is either on or off. For certain types of use cases, there should be the ability to rate limit, not just enable or disable.""You have to buy another module with an extra license, to have the authentication feature.""The reporting could be clearer and embedded to include our movement data.""I would like to see a better interface and better documentation compatibility with other products. It's more complicated with OWASP.""The solution is tedious. It takes a lot of discrete settings so one needs to get detailed and granular when they use the solution. It takes you a whole lot of energy and concentration to configure. It needs to be much more straight-forward, like other web solutions."
