Has an easy setup phase but needs to resolve its login-related issues in its GUI
My company is satisfied with the functionalities offered by AppWorx Workload Automation. My company and my manager decided to switch from AppWorx Workload Automation to another product, so it is a decision coming from upper management, and I have been assigned the task of creating an analysis report of the tools available in the market. My company did not do any process automations with the tool. My company is just monitoring whatever existing jobs are there in our environment. If we are getting any requirements from our company's IT team, we create those jobs in the tool. The product does support our industry's standard compliances. My company does not currently have any requirements for using AI. We just want to migrate our existing infrastructure into a new tool. The tool's scope is very limited for our company. I would definitely recommend the product to others since it is a stable solution. The issue that I faced in my company with the product is one of the major drawbacks of the product that AppWorx needs to look into because if you are not able to log in, then it could escalate as a big issue in the organization. GUI-wise, there are no such issues with the product, and the configuration is visible. Considering that the product needs to work on the graphical representation area, I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Helps automate all kinds of jobs and it's worth the price because it saves a lot of time and money
One problem that I had with them when we got SMA Technologies is that sometimes the jobs fail, but they automatically restart. SMA Technologies automatically gets a notification that the job has failed, and they restart it on their end, so now, we have the job restarting twice. There were times when we came into the office in the morning, and we had two files because the job ran twice. I do not know if the system can prevent a job from running the second time. If a job has run successfully, or it is running, it should not run again.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The most valuable features of AppWorx Workload Automation are simplicity and reliability. Additionally, they recently transformed the UI which is better."
"AppWorx Workload Automation's simplicity and powerful functionality are its most valuable features for us."
"It is really a robust product."
"The solution is very user friendly so anyone can use it."
"The automation in Atomic Applications Manager has provided a solid return on investment as it has significantly reduced the time required for tasks that were previously manual, such as running batch and online jobs and report submissions."
"We have a lot of nightly jobs that need to be run. Therefore, we perform a lot of calculations and processes during nighttime hours."
"It is an object-based approach to task and process design in conjunction with conditional logic and event-based scheduling actions, which enables a build once/use often design methodology to be employed."
"AppWorx isn't limited to Unix or Linux. We can set it up in Windows, AWS, or Azure environments. It's not dependent on any one particular environment."
"It allows batch work to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible."
"There's also a self-service solution manager... that allows us to enable staff to run complex automation tasks by clicking a button and entering some information. They don't have to have access to the OpCon environment to kick off those kinds of events."
"Auto-scheduling is the most valuable feature. We have the ability to schedule [batch jobs on our Unisys mainframes] seven days in advance, so we know exactly how we're running every night."
"The automation of processes is the most valuable feature. One of the major hurdles for us over the last few years, before we found OpCon, was to make our nightly process happen automatically. Being a bank, we have nightly update processes that have to happen for posting transactions, for example, and it was a huge load off our department to have that automated."
"It can run scripted tasks automatically over and over without intervention. That is what it does and the part that I really like because repetitive tasks need to be done over and over, day after day, no matter what day of the week it is. It is difficult to have staff do these manually and consistently, especially over weekends or through the night. Instead, you can have OpCon do them."
"The solution has freed up employees to do more meaningful work as a result of automation. They don't have to sit there and wait for files to download. They don't have to stare at the screen while a process is running. It all runs in the background, doing it for them."
"It allows us to have more information and more control than we previously had over the processes that are running in host systems."
"Since we got it configured, it has just done the job day in, day out. Being able to rely on it and know that it's going to happen, whether there's a person over it or not, is really good."

Cons

"Currently, I have switched to negotiating through third-party vendors for licensing, which has made it more expensive. Broadcom should address this by dealing directly with customers again."
"Currently, I have switched to negotiating through third-party vendors for licensing, which has made it more expensive. Broadcom should address this by dealing directly with customers again."
"As a general process automation and integration tool, it has been superseded by other offerings, notably the Workload Automation suite."
"The current setup process can be a bit much for users."
"We are looking for additional features that would allow us to call APIs and integrate the product with other tools more effectively."
"The compliance features are limited to the server and not the entire infrastructure."
"It is difficult to integrate with the Active Directory (AD)."
"The graphical interface is pretty cool but not the best so it could use some improvement."
"We are still in the early stages of our implementation, so at this point, I cannot see any needed improvements or features."
"The SQL database connections are the only time that we've had issues with reliability and stability of the software."
"Usage is a little complex. It's not like you can bring somebody in and they can just use it. They have to be trained... As far as complexity goes, it's right up there."
"I would like to have an interface with PowerShell. PowerShell has a lot of functionality. We use it a lot because we're a Windows shop. Having a built-in tool or interface with PowerShell would go a long way."
"The calendar interface and the frequency interface is a very powerful, yet complex, section of OpCon in which all our staff have made mistakes. They have implemented what they believed was logically correct and then afterward discovered that their logic was flawed because OpCon did it a different way. That part, which is incredibly useful, is also incredibly dangerous. The interface or the ability to directly do more functions within the frequency definitely has room for expansion. As good as it is, it can be a lot better."
"I would like to see OpCon being accessible using a mobile app."
"At first, it's a little clunky, but once you learn it, it actually is very simple. You have to get over that initial learning hump."
"The initial setup is very complex, but that's not necessarily something that needs to be improved. I'm told that in the next version they're improving the upgrade process. So that's in the works already."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price for annual licenses is a bit expensive so pricing is rated a two out of ten."
"We are satisfied with the pricing."
"The cost model is based on the number of orchestrated systems used."
"Licensing options are fairly straightforward."
"On a yearly basis our cost is between $25,000 and $30,000."
"The cost is just shy of $20,000. That's for two licenses annually, production, and failover. It is a pricey solution. Comparatively speaking, you can certainly find schedulers which are cheaper. In some cases, you can find ones that are free or use free solutions. However, OpCon is by far the superior quality product, and you pay for that. This also has a cost savings associated with an FTE, so you can more than outweigh the cost of the solution if you were to reduce the staff that you have onsite. Plus, this means that you don't need to have someone during irregular hours."
"Our license is for 1000 jobs. Including support, the license and upgrades are 2000 euros a month."
"OpCon cost us $80,000 in 2017 money, and that included everything: support, installation, onsite assistance during the conversion, etc. It's been a worthwhile investment by far."
"I believe our cost is about $150,000 annually."
"The pricing is over $100,000 for our credit union and I believe it's $89,000 for our clients, in total, annually."
"We currently renewed with one of their new technology bundles. It's around $36,000 annually. We run a query of our SQL in our SQL database to see how many jobs we run. They're charging us per usage and whatever add-ons you want to use with OpCon."
"It is at a decent price for the work that it does for us."

@PhilippeLLORET, All worked out fine in the end. We had demos for all three products, and it was decided that Automic Workload Manager was the best option for our needs. The vendor is now able to provide some support for the Automic Workload Automation product.
