Easy to use, immutable, and provides good deduplication features
When we wanted to back up our Microsoft environment, we looked for a cloud backup. Barracuda provided a cloud backup. There were no other products that offered similar features at that time. I will recommend the product to others. It is easy to use. It is a complete package. It is easy to integrate the product with Microsoft. We have a complete package that includes antispam and email gateway solutions. We can choose any package we want. We use Barracuda Essentials. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Provides seamless backup integration and long-term reliability for enterprise data protection
The price is quite high; this product is not considered cheap. Additionally, if you use higher availability boxes, they also come at a premium price. However, they provide business continuity, which is the main reason why companies invest in this solution. Tape is slow; when restoring several virtual machines or databases amounting to several terabytes, Dell PowerProtect Data Domain represents the fastest and most reliable solution, ensuring great integration with backup software. If a customer has limited budget constraints, they may opt for cheaper external storage comprised of just a bunch of disks and utilize it for backup, as backup is not a business-critical service. However, I see great value in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain because it is fully automated, features great integration with backup software, and provides good value for money. I would rate software support as a ten, while I would give hardware support a seven. I never give any product a perfect score; I think Dell PowerProtect Data Domain deserves a nine. The only minor problems are the certificate issue and the price. These certificate issues are quite rare and mainly arise when we forget to restart and upgrade the box for several years.

Pros

"Of all the backup products we have used, this by far is the simplest to install and use."
"We perform backup drills to test the functionality, and we don't have any problems."
"The configuration and the onboarding process are pretty good."
"The scalability of the product is fine."
"Easy, immediate protection for data that is virtually infinitely scalable."
"I have found the product's LiveBoot feature to be most valuable."
"The backup feature is most valuable. That's why we took it."
"The superior support from Barracuda in setting up, using, and helping with issues for the product."
"I believe that for backup and deduplication, this is the top product."
"The solution can scale up to one petabyte right now. It's very good for enterprise-level organizations."
"We see data reduction by up to 60 times with Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, but it depends on the backup application the customers use."
"I like the different features. We work closely with Dell on different products and features, which is why we use them all."
"The most valuable features are the deduplication and compression and the Data Domain Boost."
"The product provides good backup and compression services."
"The dedup and data compression actually benefit our floor space in the data center, and we are able to reduce our backup storage, which used to be a legacy large footprint, into something more concise."
"The integration of Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) with leading backup applications within the infrastructure is very good."

Cons

"The solution depends on your connectivity, so it is essential to have a proper connection to the cloud."
"Its speed can be a bit improved, and of course, its pricing can go a lot cheaper."
"Some features like CIFS are not supported that would help speed and flexibility."
"Compared to Avamar and Data Domain (our other systems), the backup speed is slow."
"The solution is pretty expensive. This is the usual customer complaint."
"The search features must be improved."
"I would like to see the Live Boot feature extended to Hyper-V machines, in addition to VMware machines."
"I would like to see a way to increase space."
"We have some problems with backing up on the Power Platform. PowerServer is an IBM product, and it forces us to back up over LAN, which is not suitable for us."
"In terms of improvement for Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, I suggest that the licensing structure could be clearer, as it is difficult to understand how capacity relates to the license capacity, which is not very transparent."
"The downside of PowerProtect's flexibility is that you have so many options. It can be a little confusing. It's like having a car with too many buttons on the dash. You can do so much with it, but it takes some time to learn what everything does."
"The price could be improved."
"The pricing could be better, but it's still not too expensive."
"The product lacks some security features that would make it more stand-alone and integrated."
"The initial setup is complex."
"If we lose the admin password, Dell always asks for separate charges."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is charged yearly. It's my understanding that the cost of the solution is somewhere around $7,000 every two years."
"You have two options, which we have. We pay for it bi-monthly. Then, you can purchase the project hours and support annually."
"Because it is a single package that includes everything, they are worth the money that you need to pay for it. You are paying for the hardware, licensing, the software that runs on it, regular updates, the cloud features included with it along with the replication, and your space allocated in the cloud for replication. It is fairly priced for what you get."
"You don't need to buy an extra license or agent. With one box, you have licenses for any amount of devices that you want to backed up for whatever is backed up."
"They're on par with their competitors."
"The tool's pricing is reasonable."
"It allows us a low cost backup solution for hardware-based, VMware, and Hyper-V systems all from a single platform."
"The price of the five-year contract was approximately three million Rupees ($42,000 USD)."
"We usually buy products at the end year, and the license is included."
"The product is expensive."
"The pricing is cost-effective for the solution"
"The cheaper device costs around $70,000."
"The price of Dell EMC PowerProtect DD could improve, it is expensive."
"The price is on the high side."
"Users have to pay a capacity-based licensing fee for the solution."
"The solution is expensive. However, if you pay less you receive less, it is cost-effective."
