A really good GUI that is easy for non-technical users to understand
Our company uses the solution for one of our bank clients. We use App Connect middleware to monitor services and applications such as Docker, Kubernetes, MongoDB, and MS SQL Server. We also monitor the bottleneck for all servers.  We currently have 20 users at one of our branches. We plan to expand…

Does real-time monitoring, prevents failures, and has a reasonable price
Their cloud monitoring solution needs to be improved. I have already given them the feedback that it's not capable of meeting the latest technology needs. It's built like proprietary software. I can't expose the data to ITRS, and similarly, ITRS can't expose the data to the outside world. They have created a boundary. It's a bit binding solution. In the modern world, people like to be able to expose the data to do whatever they want. They can query the data, send it, or pull it. ITRS needs to provide more in terms of the API offering. They have documentation, but they can improve the documentation and provide videos to show how to do monitoring configuration or deployment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The primary selling point of this product is its unparalleled transparency into the infrastructure."
"With auto-discovery, we didn't need to consider much. We just installed the agent on the host and it was able to detect everything from the host level up to the service level, for whatever stack was installed, and that includes containers and dockers."
"Its GUI is really good and it easy to understand for non-technical users."
"Sometimes it's able to provide a proper RCA on its own. It's able to correlate different events that occurred and that becomes like an RCA in itself."
"The detailing of our application behavior and user experience is most valuable, and in case there is an issue, we typically use Instana to figure it out, drilling down to the application to understand what's going on and where the issue is."
"With Instana, the interface and the UI are very simple to use."
"The most valuable features are the monitoring with granularity by one second, which allows real-time data generation, and the fast implementation."
"Instana is very fast to implement and deploy because the dashboards are automated and don't need configuration."
"ITRS Geneos is very well known in the financial services community as being the best platform to monitor real time data infrastructures and the application does what it says on the tin."
"ITRS is significantly better than PRTG and saves us a lot of time in development."
"It has helped us re-define the Monitoring operating model which in turn has made support teams more efficient by using features like commented snoozing on various levels, use of knowledgebase articles associated with each alert cell, metric logging for capacity monitoring etc."
"We previously used Nagios, but switched to Geneos as it has better monitoring for applications, and it has more features and better configuration possibilities."
"Our support team can monitor our applications and servers easily and we were able to reduce the time in finding errors and providing a solution."
"Real-time log monitoring with desktop alerts is valuable as it tells us immediately when there is an issue."
"It's also easy to implement. The implementation of Geneos is very easy and interesting. It's not complicated. It's very quick to implement. The installation is very easy. There are many topics about ITRS Geneos that explain more about the features of the function of Geneos."
"Geneos automatically sends email notifications when any batch job fails, the database is down or the website is down. It is automatically monitoring everything and reduces manual effort."

Cons

"The integration could be improved with more plugins or open API."
"Maybe log monitoring could be better."
"New Relic has a better UI in terms of how it presents the data."
"We should be able to go back to scenarios during or before the issue. There should be something like a history playback. Such a feature or functionality would be good."
"I think that Instana should improve the university and the certification process, so the users can find experts in Instana with their certification module process."
"The App Connect middleware does not integrate with or show corresponding sub nodes."
"The auto-remediation features must be improved."
"The integration could be improved with more plugins or open API."
"As far as I know, ITRS does not have integration with any version control system."
"Still, it’s not that easy to create stuff to help with visibility and dashboarding in Geneos."
"I would also like to see suggested guidelines to accomplish a monitoring task. The issue is that ITRS is so flexible that there is more than one way to complete a task, each with benefits and disadvantages."
"Backward compatibility with deprecated features and in-system documentation on what configuration areas are needed to be updated can be improved."
"The interface can sometimes be a little complicated."
"The ITA, the post-incident analytics, could be improved."
"Currently the dashboard does not have the capability of providing different status levels, and this needs to be updated."
"The dashboard feature is full of bugs. Grouping items results in a distorted dashboard."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing is comparable to other products."
"It's reasonably priced and manageable, especially for individuals who grasp the significance of application monitoring."
"The solution is less expensive than one of its competitors."
"Pricing is quite competitive. Dynatrace, AppDynamics, and New Relic were all several times more expensive than Instana, both the on-prem and the SaaS versions. Price-wise they are a lot more competitive than anyone else out there."
"Instana Dynamic APM is more affordable for small and medium-sized companies compared to other vendors."
"The pricing is $1,200 per year which is a bit high compared to other vendors."
"Its pricing isn't a big pain point. Its pricing seems to be better than some of the other competing products in the market, but they also have some of the features and functionalities that are better than Instana."
"Its price is reasonable. It isn't too expensive, and it isn't too cheap, but it also depends on a company's volume and negotiation."
"The pricing seems reasonable. We're happy enough with it."
"The product is priced quite high. There are pricing options for customers based on the size of the environment and plug-ins used by the monitoring system."
"I can say it's not that cheap because the licensing is a little bit costly"
"Based on feedback from colleagues and friends working in the financial sector, Geneos is relatively costly. Many companies have been switching from Geneos to Dynatrace, Sysdig, or other monitoring tools in the past two years because of the price."
"Pricing is the touchy subject, even here. Upper management always wants us to find a cheaper solution. But we have so much integrated with ITRS... It's expensive, but it does its job very well. And you set it and go."
"ITRS Geneos is not a cheap tool. It's a moderate price for the banking industry. The reason we are not able to add the ITRS monitoring tool for the non-banking industries, and non-finance industries, is that the pricing is too high."
"The market tools are on par with this solution, but if the solution included more features, then it would be well within the range for the cost."
