Traceability has improved documentation for auditors and regulators
The collaboration feature in Jama Connect could be improved because it is only used by a limited number of people within an organization due to license costs. For broader collaboration that includes departments like marketing and engineering, many still rely on tools like Slack ( /products/slack-reviews ) or Confluence ( /products/atlassian-confluence-reviews ). Additionally, there are areas where usability and configurability could be enhanced.

Offers good repository integration, sprint board and easy to set up
There are some features and reports we need that are not there. For example, if I have to find out the capacity of the current sprint by user and compare it with the previous sprint, that visibility isn't there. We can know the capacity and what happened with the whole sprint, but not for an individual person to see where it's falling and how it's tracking. Report and analytics capabilities are important for a product manager. That visibility is important, so we use Jira. Some of the features are there, and I use my own Excels or other data things to compensate for that.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"You can get full traceability with any other system. It also includes a test module, and you build the traceability matrix incrementally throughout the development process."
"We use Jama Connect mainly for requirements management."
"It is good at requirements management and test management."
"The most valuable feature is the user-friendly interface."
"I like Jama Connect because it's easy to use and understand. The widgets are great, and linking is straightforward. The solution is not complex compared to its competitors."
"Technical support answers fairly quickly compared to others like IBM or Atlassian. They also offer quite a good knowledge base for advanced cases and how to plan it, etc. via videos that they provide. They are quite useful."
"The relationship mapping feature is especially helpful, as it allows us to connect different requirements and compliance-related documentation."
"The user experience is better than the competition."
"The ability to change and rewrite tasks is valuable. You can add a lot of columns, change the owners and the change the components."
"The user interface is simple."
"We have found the structure, functionality, and how Jira handles the tickets most valuable."
"Its integration with Bitbucket, Confluence, and other things is most valuable."
"Scaling the product wouldn't be difficult."
"A stable solution with no unplanned downtime."
"The most valuable features are the customized Dashboard, Sprint Planning, and Automatic Notifications."
"Integrates with other components."

Cons

"t is rather slow, so the speed of the process and consuming information should be improved. It doesn't have a nice way of viewing information. We would like to see better interfaces for consuming information."
"The solution is expensive."
"There are a few areas where Jama Connect can improve. One suggestion is to enhance the built-in feature of profile generation."
"The solution is very software-centric, and its validation piece is not time-efficient at all."
"I think there's room for improvement, especially with the review process. Reviews should be integrated with requirement evaluation instead of being separate from it. The review should not run parallel to the requirement."
"I believe one of the weak points is the reporting side. You must export inter-readable reports from Jama if you do not use the system as a repository for your design history file. Jama is great if you keep it in Jama, but reporting out requires some customization to get it right."
"The collaboration feature in Jama Connect could be improved because it is only used by a limited number of people within an organization due to license costs."
"The initial setup could be better, it's complicated."
"I find the dashboard to be Jira's most problematic feature."
"If you're not a technical person, it might not be very user-friendly."
"It would be ideal if Jira had future functionalities to integrate more easily with various aspects of code reviews."
"Atlassian has multiple tools and it becomes difficult for a customer to process everything differently. Atlassian should combine them and form a single solution for DevOps by including the Jira Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and others. This would be much easier for customers by purchasing a package, rather than purchasing bits and pieces. With Azure DevOps and other companies, it becomes easier to go with one company having multiple areas that they can cater to, but in Atlassian, the problem is that you have to select different solutions to have a full package. For example, to have document management customers have to purchase Confluence and for Git repository management they have to purchase Bitbucket, et cetera. There is always another add-on that you need to attach to have a complete solution in Jira."
"The solution can improve by including test management functionality in a native bundle without plugins."
"Improvements in Jira for the next release could include adding AI tools for dashboarding, making it easier to report insights, and enhancing business intelligence capabilities. It should also improve on-prem support. As far as I know, Jira's on-premise support is being discontinued. From last year onward, they stopped providing on-premise licenses and now only offer cloud support. This shift happened gradually, and I believe they now only offer cloud licenses."
"Its ability to perform true executive-level status reporting could be improved. There are a lot of benefits there, but there are also a lot of things they can and should expand upon."
"I would like to see visualization of release planning. I can list the releases and I can give dates to releases, but to show how they are happening on a timeline, I would need to order the Portfolio part. But just for this, it may be too much to use the Portfolio for that."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"To have a single source for all the requirements and all the change requests our company gets is the most valuable feature. It has also helped us to keep track of reviews."
"If you want to have creative licenses, pricing may be an issue with the licenses, as it can become quite expensive over time to serve many people."
"The cost seems very competitive with other offerings."
"Jama Connect is a little pricy."
"It's not very cheap. It's also not very costly. I'd rate it a five out of ten in terms of pricing."
"We are a regional research and education institute. We're using the free license provided for educational institutes."
"JIRA's pricing is very economical. I would say that JIRA is a great deal more economical than Microsoft."
"It is very cheap if you forego the local instance and stick to the cloud."
"The price of the solution could be less expensive. We pay annually for the solution."
"We have a corporate license, and it is probably based on the number of people."
"Almost everybody uses JIRA nowadays because it is the most cost-effective solution."
"The price seems reasonable to me. It's very similar to Splunk."
