An easy-to-deploy and affordable tool for access control monitoring
If I consider that most of the users are getting connected from a remote level and take into consideration that industries prefer to go for SaaS-based solutions and multi-factor authentication, I don't see any features associated with multi-factor authentication in ManageEngine PAM360. If ManageEngine PAM360 can introduce multi-factor authentication, then it would be great from a security aspect.

Transparent mode for privileged sessions will greatly simplify our client's administrative situation
We're introducing the solution's transparent mode for privileged sessions. This is part of what the client hasn't used before. It will simplify their administrative situation greatly. So far, the rollout of this feature has been a seamless process, but we're still in the midst of rolling it out. The benefits will be on the risk side. Right now, the way accounts are managed, you don't necessarily know who is using an account. There's a shared admin account, and that's not a good thing. And those accounts are shared in wallets by several people. One of the real benefits of safeguarding here is that the client will have an absolute audit of who is using an administrative interface, whether it's server or network.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Our clients use this solution for the rotation of keys and passwords. It is a part of logs."
"Deployment is very quick, and only a one-time installation process is required for ManageEngine PAM360."
"We can use it remotely as well."
"It has greatly helped improve our security posture. Safeguard has an option where it will reset passwords on service accounts, then go out to those servers where that service account is running as a service and update the password on it. That makes password changes very easy. We can regularly change passwords now and are planning on making it an annual activity, where all the people who own service accounts will go in and make sure all their passwords get changed, updated, and reset."
"We use the Approval Anywhere, or cloud assistant feature and it is great. It enables us to add an extra layer of security for critical passwords without adding time to the approval process."
"I like Safeguard's snapshot feature that enables us to review the last time an application was opened and by whom. If there are any issues, we can look behind the scenes to see what has been done. We can suspend a user's access or close off a server."
"The whole product solves the privileged access management challenge for our company. We have a secure tunnel, a secure session manager, and automatic logging of sessions, which is good for forensic purposes. We have a rich level of logs and can trace what happened on which machine and see who did what."
"The monitoring system is very good."
"The first feature I like about One Identity Safeguard is the live contact point for the VPNs. This has been working very well for us, as it's both highly available and reliable."
"We don't need to use VPN for remote access."
"The most unique and valuable features are the upstream and downstream throughput capacities; the Safeguard platform provides agile integration. In actuality, all the features are valuable. They're good, user-friendly."

Cons

"It should have better documentation about how to install, work and configure."
"If you want a cost effective solution and very competitive pricing, you should go with this product."
"I don't see any features associated with multi-factor authentication in ManageEngine PAM360."
"I would rate the scalability at five out of ten. It's average."
"There could be improvement in latency and accessing resources for the product."
"Support for One Identity Safeguard could be improved because sometimes the support team doesn't have an answer or solution for some bugs. A feature I found in a competitor would make One Identity Safeguard better, and that is the ability to load balance the traffic in the target."
"When we compare One Identity Safeguard with Cyberark, we know CyberArk has other tools or other features that are more complex and more useful for the customers. For example, I have one customer that wants to elevate the permission that is available in CyberArk."
"Some of the out-of-the-box reporting isn't that rich. We spoke to our Safeguard reps who have acknowledged that some of the reporting features can certainly be improved and that we're not the only customer who has cited this. There are very little out-of-the-box reporting capabilities. You have to build the queries and the report. I believe in the next release they're going to be addressing this."
"There is room for improvement in the launch module. They built in a launch button but they don't have effective instructions for configuring it to allow it to launch an RDP session. They're working on that, but the button is in the live product. If they were going to install something that wasn't useful, they should have just disabled it and not rolled it out with the product."
"One Identity Safeguard can improve by having more integration with multiple devices."
"On a scale of one to ten, the stability is an eight."
"Transparent mode was too cumbersome, so I don't foresee us being able to use it. On paper when we were initially talking about it, it was definitely going to be the preferred method until we realized the burden it would be on our network guys. Then, we had to step back and reevaluate what we wanted to do. That's when we changed our approach to use the RD Gateway feature."
"The Transparent Mode could be somewhat easier to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is less expensive than one of its competitors."
"Though I don't have the exact numbers related to the cost of the solution, I can say that it costs somewhere around INR 7,00,000 for ten licenses."
"The license is around $3,000 per month."
"They have comparable pricing. All identity products are essentially priced in a similar way. It's a per-user base."
"The license is very expensive for us, partly due to inflation and partly because of the exchange rate between the Dollar and the Iranian Rial. We purchased a perpetual license that we've been using up until now, but I believe that we are not going to update it in the future. Instead, we plan to find another third-party to support us with the license, in the sense that we would have access to their license as a shared agreement."
"The full license is expensive but if you plan to use it in a big organization then it is the best option because it is more flexible."
"It was definitely cheaper than the other two products that we evaluated."
"Safeguard is cheaper than CyberArk."
"Its subscription cost is too much, and sometimes, it is very difficult to pitch the solution to the management for cost approval. If the cost is reduced a little bit, it would be easier. If its cost was less, many other organizations that currently cannot afford it would be able to use this technology. I'm sure many organizations around the globe are having issues with identity management, and it is a very difficult task for IT to manage privileged accounts."
"Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
