Offers File and SQL backup but requires a support system to work
My primary use case for Quest NetVault is backup. It has a universal backup. For example, you can take a backup like any backup software because it has its own deduplication algorithm. You can work right after the restoration process It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us.…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one."
"The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration."
"The interface is very user-friendly."
"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes."
"It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us."
"Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great."
"The user interface is good."
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."
"It's a good product, it does what we want it to do."
"NetBackup is highly stable. We have more than 1,800 policies that run every day."
"This is the best solution that I know of."
"It saves time for the backup needs of our organization."
"It was especially useful with the appliances we use on a daily basis."
"The tool provides recovery. The support for their legacy software is very good."
"This is a product that has been on the market for a while and they have mastered the backup process, especially when backing up to tape, for most environments."
"The most valuable feature is flexibility."

Cons

"I would like to see the option of cloud-based management."
"The stability of the solution is poor."
"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault."
"The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement."
"The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find."
"The initial setup is a little complex."
"The storage capacity is very low."
"There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."
"The ability to use different disk appliance brands as Pure Disk (not OST), such as EMC Data Domain ."
"It is not very user-friendly."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"There have been issues with performance and some features."
"It's not a user-friendly solution. It's a little bit complicated. The UI is not very friendly."
"It's a little bit complex to manage."
"When the customer is using SaaS applications like Office 365, the integration falls short and needs to be improved."
"NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is expensive."
"When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
"The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
"Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
"Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive."
"We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup is high, it should be reduced."
