Provides alerts regarding pending jobs, but the storage capacity is very low
The storage capacity is very low. The solution removes all the data in 15 days. We need the history for at least one or two months. I need the history whenever I run Tape. I need the details of the logs. If the details are not captured, it will impact our organization. The product doesn’t provide image backup. It is a big problem. It must be provided in future releases.

Covers a large spectrum of products and operating systems and part of a multi-layer strategy for data protection
We use it like any other backup solution for resource restoration when needed and for populating systems in environments with data. We use NetBackup's data management strategies for multi-target backups and retentions. That's the short answer. The full explanation is quite involved. It would require describing our environment, our workflows, and how we use policies and vaulting policies to move data around. But to keep it brief, NetBackup simplifies managing data across multiple targets with various retention periods. NetBackup is part of a multi-layer strategy. It's one of the many tools we use, to ensure we don't rely on a single product. So, the product has positively impacted our protection strategy. Moreover, we're satisfied with its performance when it comes to the deduplication function.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great."
"Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one."
"The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want."
"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes."
"The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration."
"The user interface is good."
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."
"The interface is very user-friendly."
"I think this is the best backup solution that we have. It is very good for the infrastructure."
"Deduplication is the most valuable feature as it reduces the backup time and provides backup of a single copy of data"
"It has a very good user interface."
"I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features."
"The most valuable feature is that it is basically a replica of our SAND data. We archive the SAND data for recovery, if there is an issue on the fence."
"It supports multiple, heterogeneous platforms."
"Deduplication is quite efficient. It is not a complex product. It is quite simple."
"Its ability to cover a large spectrum of products and operating systems is invaluable. We evaluated other products but always found certain limitations like some products had only intel-based virtualization, while others had power servers."

Cons

"The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find."
"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault."
"The stability of the solution is poor."
"There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."
"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency."
"The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement."
"I would like to see the option of cloud-based management."
"The storage capacity is very low."
"Enhancing reporting across the board would be beneficial."
"The speed of restoring data could be improved."
"It needs support for Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVMs)."
"It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product."
"The licensing costs could be more affordable."
"The web interface is not modern."
"We had some issues with the hardware backup appliance."
"The solution costs too much."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
"When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
"The tool is expensive."
"The price is fair."
"It was on a yearly basis. During the annual review, when we asked them about our licensing, they couldn't explain it. For example, we had reduced by a factor of 40%, but our license only dropped by 5%. We would then ask Veritas people if we've reduced this much and shut down these servers, why has our license changed so less? They were never able to give us a straight answer. They weren't able to say, "Well, you're using this, and this is more expensive." In many cases, as we reduced our capacity and what we were using with Veritas NetBackup, our licensing actually went up, and they were often unable to explain why."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"The software and license are very expensive."
"Our primary complaint about this product is that it is too expensive."
"The licensing model for this solution is very powerful."
"It is an expensive solution."
"This is an affordable solution"
