The primary use is for network infrastructure monitoring, however, there are three editions. There is the professional, there is the enterprise, and there is the OpManager Plus. Personally, I prefer the OpManager Plus since it monitors everything including network routers, switches, servers, virtual machines, virtual machine hosts, storage, and firewalls, and all-in-one solution. I generally prefer OpManager Plus edition.
Software Engineer at Romsym Data
Simple to use with good monitoring and excellent reliability
Pros and Cons
- "The traffic monitoring and the traffic analysis are great."
- "Some of our customers have been asking that OpManager have a feature to monitor the operating system, however, I tell them that Endpoint Central is doing that. You can buy endpoints and then OpManager, and they integrate between them, and everything is okay."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
We like that now we can monitor the entire infrastructure, servers, temperature applications, and house for virtual machines. It's all-encompassing monitoring. We can watch everything that is connected to the network.
What is most valuable?
It's much simpler to use this solution than the regular version. With the regular version, you have to do an add-on for everything. If you want to monitor a database, you have to buy an add-on for the application. If you want to monitor a firewall, you need a license for firewalls.
The traffic monitoring and the traffic analysis are great. The monitoring of servers that host services is very important since you can see a problem before it becomes a problem. Monitoring the firewall screen is a good way of preventing breaches. Also, monitoring the storage rather than switching from screen to screen to my monitor the storage has been very useful. I monitor the infrastructure and from one screen, you can see every problem for everything that is connected to your network.
What needs improvement?
Some of our customers have been asking that OpManager have a feature to monitor the operating system, however, I tell them that Endpoint Central is doing that. You can buy endpoints and then OpManager, and they integrate between them, and everything is okay. I don't really have another feature to add.

For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for eight to ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is ten out of ten. The solution never fails.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
OpManager Enterprise has unlimited scalability. OpManager Plus goes to only 1000 devices in the application. So OpManager Enterprise has limitless scalability. OpManager Plus is limited to 1000.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is straightforward. The only thing that takes time is registering every device that is in the network. For every switch, you need to provide its credentials. For every router, the same. So every device needs to be enrolled in the platform. That takes some manual labor, especially if there are different accounts for each device. You have to enroll them, create the keys, create the credentials, then enroll them.
Installing the solution takes two to three hours. Configuring the solution and implementing every device in a network can take from days to maybe months. It depends on the number of devices and the complexity of the architecture where it is installed.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'd rate the pricing six out of ten.
I've seen other networks like Lansweeper and other solutions that provide network monitoring, and the prices are similar.
There can be add-ons involved. Add-ons depends on the license of OpManager. If you have OpManager Plus, you have very few add-ons. If you have OpManager Enterprise, you need an add-on for everything you want to monitor, from database, application, servers, VM host, et cetera.
What other advice do I have?
I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm on.
It is a good return on investment. It is a workload simplified. You can see everything on the screen. You get reports and secure your network, and also get notified if something is wrong or something might happen.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Provides good features like reporting, event notifications, and alert management
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's most valuable features are reporting, event notifications, and alert management."
- "I would like to see more capabilities and specific profiles built for the manufacturing sector."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for monitoring devices, health checks, performing some level of monitoring tasks, availability management, and capacity management. We also use it for some level of network bandwidth utilization. The technical reports available in ManageEngine OpManager suffice our specific needs.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable features are reporting, event notifications, and alert management.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see more capabilities and specific profiles built for the manufacturing sector. Their entire offering has no product to help me monitor something in the ICS/OT environment.
DCS systems and control systems are very specific and extremely critical in nature. If you see the critical manufacturing monitoring event notification, that is where ManageEngine needs to compete with the big players.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using ManageEngine OpManager for more than four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Around 40 users use the solution in our organization.
I rate the solution an eight out of ten for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support team is very responsive and straightforward based on our SLAs.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
From a simplistic point of view, ManageEngine OpManager is far better than other complex solutions, which we normally evaluate every eight months or a year. The solution has other competitors available, such as Zabbix. I can build up an entire ecosystem and run it for the price of Zabbix support alone.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's initial setup is very simple, and anyone can do it. The solution's documentation and support are also good.
What about the implementation team?
The solution's deployment time depends on your careful planning. You could deploy it in a few hours or two days if you have planned it well. The deployment time also depends on the landscape or the number of assets we are trying to onboard and apply the configuration.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution's pricing is very low compared to other products. Users can opt for an open-source product but would end up paying a hefty amount for support. I would rather prefer to use a product where I get an acceptable level of support with better scalability and less cost.
What other advice do I have?
We are using the solution's fault management feature. Ours is a very legacy environment. Whatever the product is designed for, it is meeting our needs. Integrating the solution with our IT workflow is very easy. Depending on your infrastructure, you can integrate the tool seamlessly.
I tested the solution's AI module, which requires a more careful design. At this point, ManageEngine is taking baby steps with AI. Every organization may have its own set of SLAs and governing principles. There cannot be a single solution to address the need for monitoring and auto-correction of those events.
The solution's AI features are not 100% accurate, but it works between 60% and 70% in those cases. There are areas where it can further improve. I would recommend the solution to other users.
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Easy to use, easy to deploy, and good support
Pros and Cons
- "It is easy to use and deploy."
- "We have been facing an issue since last year when a lot of our users started to work from home through their mobiles or computers. We are having trouble reaching these devices. We are now planning to publish our instance to the cloud so that we can reach these devices. Its performance should be improved in terms of the discovery of the devices. I would like to feel confident with the discovery that this solution does. For example, on my dashboard, I would like to be able to view a list of all devices seen on a specific server. At present, it is difficult to find such information. This would be an excellent feature to have."

Pros and Cons
- "We don't have to keep an eye on it; it has a good automation option, which keeps us informed. It gives very less false positives. Overall, a really great product."
What is our primary use case?
We use OpManager for live monitoring, receiving alerts in real-time, capacity management, and immediate identification of any issues. It automatically raises tickets for the relevant teams to take action.
We have configured it to cover various areas within our IT department, including applications, networks, databases, and servers.
What is most valuable?
Overall, all of its features are very useful. The live 3D data center view is impressive. The application manager plugin provides detailed and customizable monitoring options.
Additionally, the hyper-converged detailed view for servers is a valuable and up-to-date feature.
What needs improvement?
One thing it could work on is the coloring of the reporting graphs. It uses very fancy, bright colors that don't always represent the data accurately. For example, it may show 100% availability in one criterion, but if the same page uses green somewhere else, it might use red for that 100% availability. It doesn't look good.I mean, certain things should always be green, they can't be red. That way, there's a disconnect from the expected color scheme.
Within the generated reports, there are graphs and columns with data. The colors used are fancy and don't have a specific meaning. They're just used to avoid repeating colors on the same page, so each graph gets a unique color. But in doing so, they neglect the fact that a graph showing good data shouldn't use red color. It can mislead the audience. It can mislead whoever reads the report, especially senior management who quickly glance at the big picture.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for three years. We recently upgraded to the latest one.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a highly stable solution. I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a highly scalable solution. I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten.
In our organization, we have subscribed for five hundred endpoints. We use it 24/7, round the clock.
How are customer service and support?
Customer service and support have everything. It is quite comprehensive and amazing.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used the SolarWinds suite, which had its own OpManager for monitoring. We also evaluated Splunk and QRadar.
We chose ManageEngine OpManager because of its ease of use and because it had everything we were looking for. It's very user-friendly and requires less time for configurations. It's quite handy.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very easy. I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.
What about the implementation team?
We only needed one person who knew the network to work with the deploying engineer. The solution scans the network on its own and starts building up the data for daily operations. It's really quick. The deployment took around three days.
It does require maintenance. Only one admin is enough for maintenance.
What was our ROI?
There is a hundred percent return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is moderate. Considering its capabilities, it's underpriced. So I would rate it as low price, maybe a four out of ten, where one is low and ten is high.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
What other advice do I have?
I would suggest to go for it. Overall, I would rate the solution a ten out of ten. It is easy to use, user-friendly, covers all the technology, and has low-management time. We don't have to keep an eye on it; it has a good automation option, which keeps us informed. It gives very less false positives. Overall, a really great product.

Stable, difficult to install, and the technical support could be improved
Pros and Cons
- "Monitoring is the most valuable feature of this solution."
- "We would like link monitoring included. At times we need to monitor those specific links closely."
What is our primary use case?
We use ManageEngine OpManager to monitor our link status, latency, and errors.
What is most valuable?
It's a standard monitoring tool. It doesn't have a lot of extra features. It's primarily used for low-level monitoring.
Monitoring is the most valuable feature of this solution.
What needs improvement?
There are some concerns with the recording performance of ManageEngine OpManager. It does not offer accurate monitoring when compared to SolarWinds. We have seen endpoint collections lag, there has been some choking with a particular link, and it doesn't record properly.
ManageEngine OpManager should include drill-down features. If for example, we wanted to monitor a particular link closely, it should not be an option, it should available.
We would like link monitoring included. At times we need to monitor those specific links closely.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using ManageEngine OpManager for the last five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
ManageEngine OpManager is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have one admin user, who logs in.
We have had several concerns with ManageEngine OpManager's scalability; it consumes a lot of resources.
How are customer service and support?
We did not receive adequate support when we had problems during the installation. They take too much time to get it done.
I would rate them a two out of five.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have also worked with SolarWinds Network Device Monitor. It has been deployed on-premises.
We use SolarWinds Network Device Monitor to closely monitor links, which is not a feature that is available in ManageEngine OpManger.
There are significant differences when compared to SolarWinds. First and foremost, the accuracy will be completely different. When we use SolarWinds, we conduct a lot of proof-of-concept work, and occasionally we require specific data. We'll set up a trial enrollment at that time and collect the data. Which is different in ManageEngine. We can drill down if that particular graph is shown in SolarWinds. We cannot drill down in ManageEngine; instead, a five-minute countdown will begin. It will be correct every five minutes to one hour. If you raise the points, the links will be broken. I have approximately 3,000 links. If I increase that interval to one minute, it will consume more of the VMs.
SolarWinds is faster in terms of performance.
How was the initial setup?
We have had some issues with the initial setup. We struggled to complete the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When compared with SolarWinds, the pricing is a little lower. We chose the same because of the commercial aspect.
In terms of pricing, I would rate it a two out of five. It was expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate ManageEngine OpManager a five out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to install and useful for network and server monitoring
Pros and Cons
- "The tool is useful for SNMP monitoring."
- "The data provided by the tool is not accurate."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for network and server monitoring. We are using the product for basic functionalities. We use it to monitor and check whether there are any issues in the environment.
What is most valuable?
The tool is useful for SNMP monitoring.
What needs improvement?
The product has only basic functionalities. It is not like SolarWinds. The data provided by the tool is not accurate. SolarWinds is more accurate.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for more than eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool is not that stable. I rate the stability a five out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are able to scale the product according to our growth. I rate the scalability a ten out of ten. We have more than 1000 branches.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support is satisfactory.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The solution was very easy to install. We were using Microsoft DB. It took some time. We can implement the product in a week. We need one person to deploy the tool.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing was okay. However, it has been increasing a lot lately. The product is not worth the money.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
