Stable with great performance and good pricing
Pros and Cons
- "The performance of AWS is excellent."
- "The overall convenience and the ease to use could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
So far, the stability is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's one of its great selling features.
The performance of AWS is excellent.
The cost-effectiveness is something we appreciate. It isn't too expensive for us to leverage AWS.
What needs improvement?
The overall convenience and the ease to use could be improved. Right now, for example, we still have an integrator that helps us. They help us do the so-called hand-holding to get us started. Once we start, we can train up staff and we can manage most of the operations ourselves. It's just that first little bit that's difficult to handle alone.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using the solution for a few years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of AWS is excellent. We don't have to worry about it crashing or freezing. There aren't bugs or glitches to contend with. It's reliable and we've enjoyed its stability thus far.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the product is very, very good. It's one of the great benefits of the cloud. You don't really have to worry about hitting a wall. It can expand pretty well as much as you need it to.
We have about 30 or so people on the solution right now. They are mostly our analytical team and some business users.
We have plans to continue usage and we may also increase usage in the future.
How are customer service and support?
Our team has used technical support in the past. I haven't myself, personally, however, my team called them for technical questions. We tend to use either AWS or our system integrator when it comes to answering some troubleshooting issues.
The support could be better. It's my understanding that they need to take some sort of certification, and that there is a bit of a learning curve. They're not bad, however, as I mentioned, they could be more proficient. While some seem to be certified, others need to polish their skillsets.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did use another solution previously. We used Horizon before. We also use some other data pipeline, however, they were more of a niche market cloud provider, unlike Amazon, which is more widespread and has a broader scope.
How was the initial setup?
We are using it on the cloud basis. We don't have any integration on-premises. We found the installation, in that sense, somewhat easy, although there were some moving parts that we still needed a bit of help with.
What about the implementation team?
We had an integrator help us a bit. They did some hand-holding to make sure everything got up and running properly.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of the solution is quite good. It's very reasonable and very affordable.
That said, I don't deal with billing and licensing directly and therefore don't have the exact numbers in relation to how much we pay.
What other advice do I have?
We're using the latest version of the solution. The cloud is instantaneously upgrading us to the latest version.
I'd recommend the solution to other organizations. We've been pretty happy with the product so far.
Overall, I would rate it at an eight out of ten. If it offered better support and had a more user-friendly setup I'd likely rate it higher.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

More complete, specific training for many of the technologies, specifically with Python Django and the CMS (Mezzanine).
For how long have I used the solution?
Less than one year.

Great option for cloud-based storage where usage can be increased as the demand increases
Pros and Cons
- "This solution is a good option if you are looking for cloud-based storage. Using a cloud-based solution, it is not required to accommodate a full workload. You can start with a basic version and scale up as needed."
- "This solution could offer more security."
What is our primary use case?
This solution is a good option if you are looking for cloud-based storage. Using a cloud-based solution, you can start with a basic version and scale up as needed.
It is possible to scale up the server capacity on demand. That is a big advantage as far as a cloud system is concerned. Backup of the systems can be done easily and can be automated. There are automation tools within this solution that help us manage deployment.
What needs improvement?
This solution could offer more security.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for five years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What other advice do I have?
We would recommend Amazon Web Services to someone who is looking for a global rollout or deployment.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Site Reliability Engineer at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Its features are a great complement to the basic infrastructure of any company
Pros and Cons
- "I like ETL, the EC2 platform, and Route 53. These features are a great complement to the basic infrastructure of any company. The AWS platform has many features, but the fundamental cloud infrastructure is the most important."
- "A person with no AWS experience might find it overwhelming at first."
What is our primary use case?
I'm currently using AWS to create two environments with the EC2 instance. I have one environment for staging and developing processes and another environment for production.
What is most valuable?
I like ETL, the EC2 platform, and Route 53. These features are a great complement to the basic infrastructure of any company. The AWS platform has many features, but the fundamental cloud infrastructure is the most important.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used AWS for around two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
AWS is reliable. I've seen around 10 issues in the whole time I've been using it, so I think that is highly stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
AWS is a cloud platform, so it's inherently scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The cloud platform can have problems, but AWS has a good SLA. If a region has problems, Amazon will fix the issue, so the customer never knows.
How was the initial setup?
Deploying AWS is complex in the beginning. It becomes more intuitive once you have a solid grasp of the fundamentals. However, a person with no AWS experience might find it overwhelming at first. Total deployment took around two weeks.
What other advice do I have?
I rate AWS nine out of 10. It's a complete solution. If Amazon added any more features, that would just be a pleasant surprise for me because AWS perfectly fits the needs of my current job.

Good in terms of deployment and user experience
Pros and Cons
- "Amazon AWS is good in terms of deployment and user experience. Their certificate management and load balancer are also good features."
- "The sorting model in AWS is a little bit complicated. When you are going through any component, you can get some surprising results."
What is most valuable?

What needs improvement?
The sorting model in AWS is a little bit complicated. When you are going through any component, you can get some surprising results.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using AWS for more than two years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is something that people are looking for when they choose Amazon AWS. I like that it integrates well with IBM Resilient, which is like a serverless map. We have more than 5,000 employees in our organization.
How are customer service and support?
Amazon support is good.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up AWS was straightforward. It only took around 20 minutes. We used about five to 10 team members for deployment. For maintenance, we have an architect and some RDS specialists.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Amazon AWS could have more options and transparency in its pricing model. You need in-depth knowledge to adopt AWS. So someone without that knowledge base might not understand all of the costs associated with AWS.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Amazon AWS nine out of 10. I would definitely recommend it to others.

A complete cloud infrastructure solution with many valuable features and great scalability and stability
Pros and Cons
- "It has several valuable features, but the load balancer, auto-scaling, and RDS database are the main ones. It is a complete cloud infrastructure solution."
- "In terms of technical features, I don't see anything missing. The only two points in favor of other providers are the price and local support. The main problem that we see here in Brazil is the price. It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider. Their local support can also be better. We get more support from some of the other providers here in Brazil as compared to AWS."
What is our primary use case?
We have migrated on-premises infrastructure for a customer to the AWS cloud with different workloads, such as Windows, Linux, Oracle, and SQL Server. It is a public and hybrid cloud deployment.
What is most valuable?
It has several valuable features, but the load balancer, auto-scaling, and RDS database are the main ones. It is a complete cloud infrastructure solution.
What needs improvement?
In terms of technical features, I don't see anything missing. The only two points in favor of other providers are the price and local support.
The main problem that we see here in Brazil is the price. It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider.
Their local support can also be better. We get more support from some of the other providers here in Brazil as compared to AWS.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable. There are no problems with its stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is perfect and great. We have around 300 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is okay, but it can be better. This is something for which there is room for improvement. We get more support from some of the other providers as compared to AWS.
How was the initial setup?
It had medium complexity. It was not too complex, but it is never simple to migrate to the cloud. It took three months.
Several people were involved in its deployment. We had 13 people in total. There were about eight people from our side and maybe five people from the customer side.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Amazon AWS a nine out of ten.

Specialist Database Management at Claranet
Good services and integration capabilities but sometimes the configuration is off
Pros and Cons
- "They integrate well with various other solutions."
- "I'd like to see integration with MySQL."
What is most valuable?
The services on offer are good.
I use the RDS a lot.
I've recently implemented more systems on Amazon. They integrate well with various other solutions.
Managing databases, and moving them from on-premises to the cloud is easy.
What needs improvement?
I need to read a bit more and figure out if the database configuration is off. I'm finding that the solution can sometimes be slow.
If I have a complex database on the OCI and try to move in AWS, for example, sometimes I can't do it. I'd like it to be easier if possible.
I'd like to see integration with MySQL.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for two years.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've worked with Azure and Oracle as well. A big part of our database is on Oracle OCI. It might be as much as 70%.
How was the initial setup?
I can handle the implementation process. I've done a few lately.
What other advice do I have?
We're a customer and an end-user.
I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten.
