A cloud computing solution with great elasticity
Pros and Cons
- "The compute and the elasticness of the compute is really great. Whenever there's a load, it automatically adds the servers and then reduces the servers based on the configuration. This is really wonderful, more cost-effective, and it's been really good for us."
- "AWS support could be better."
What is our primary use case?
We're using several Amazon products. We use Amazon AWS Compute Service, AWS Elastic Load Balancing, and a huge private VPN or a virtual private network are created out of it. We also use an API Gateway. There are several products and several services that AWS provides, and we're using them.
What is most valuable?
The compute and the elasticness of the compute is really great. Whenever there's a load, it automatically adds the servers and then reduces the servers based on the configuration. This is really wonderful, more cost-effective, and it's been really good for us.
What needs improvement?
AWS support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Amazon AWS for many years.
How are customer service and technical support?
AWS support could be better. It could be faster and straightforward.
How was the initial setup?
There's no initial setup or installation. It's all configuration.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
A few of our customers pay for it yearly and monthly. Sometimes, when it's related to the data, the pricing seems to be high. It could be cheaper on a transactional basis.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate a couple of other products like Google Cloud and RTCloud, but our customers decided to go with AWS.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this cloud solution to new customers.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Amazon AWS an eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A complete cloud infrastructure solution with many valuable features and great scalability and stability
Pros and Cons
- "It has several valuable features, but the load balancer, auto-scaling, and RDS database are the main ones. It is a complete cloud infrastructure solution."
- "In terms of technical features, I don't see anything missing. The only two points in favor of other providers are the price and local support. The main problem that we see here in Brazil is the price. It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider. Their local support can also be better. We get more support from some of the other providers here in Brazil as compared to AWS."
What is our primary use case?
We have migrated on-premises infrastructure for a customer to the AWS cloud with different workloads, such as Windows, Linux, Oracle, and SQL Server. It is a public and hybrid cloud deployment.
What is most valuable?
It has several valuable features, but the load balancer, auto-scaling, and RDS database are the main ones. It is a complete cloud infrastructure solution.
What needs improvement?
In terms of technical features, I don't see anything missing. The only two points in favor of other providers are the price and local support.
The main problem that we see here in Brazil is the price. It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider.
Their local support can also be better. We get more support from some of the other providers here in Brazil as compared to AWS.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable. There are no problems with its stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is perfect and great. We have around 300 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is okay, but it can be better. This is something for which there is room for improvement. We get more support from some of the other providers as compared to AWS.
How was the initial setup?
It had medium complexity. It was not too complex, but it is never simple to migrate to the cloud. It took three months.
Several people were involved in its deployment. We had 13 people in total. There were about eight people from our side and maybe five people from the customer side.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Amazon AWS a nine out of ten.

Specialist Database Management at Claranet
Good services and integration capabilities but sometimes the configuration is off
Pros and Cons
- "They integrate well with various other solutions."
- "I'd like to see integration with MySQL."
What is most valuable?
The services on offer are good.
I use the RDS a lot.
I've recently implemented more systems on Amazon. They integrate well with various other solutions.
Managing databases, and moving them from on-premises to the cloud is easy.
What needs improvement?
I need to read a bit more and figure out if the database configuration is off. I'm finding that the solution can sometimes be slow.
If I have a complex database on the OCI and try to move in AWS, for example, sometimes I can't do it. I'd like it to be easier if possible.
I'd like to see integration with MySQL.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for two years.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've worked with Azure and Oracle as well. A big part of our database is on Oracle OCI. It might be as much as 70%.
How was the initial setup?
I can handle the implementation process. I've done a few lately.
What other advice do I have?
We're a customer and an end-user.
I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten.

Founder & Solution Architect at Fluidech
Intuitive, reliable, and easy and quick to deploy
Pros and Cons
- "It is intuitive, easy to deploy, and rather quick to deploy and set up. There are a number of native services in the ecosystem. These services are built into the cloud and are mature enough to support you in many ways."
- "Amazon still has room for improvement in terms of being more mature on the monitoring side and in terms of the native capabilities. Amazon should get their services portfolio stronger on OEM-based workloads such as Microsoft and Oracle. There are a lot of areas that still do not have offerings, so there is room to grow. I would be happy if they bring more maturity to the monitoring capabilities and SaaS offerings. They are strong on Infrastructure as a Service, but they are not mature on SaaS."
What is most valuable?

It is relatively secure and definitely reliable for uptime.
What needs improvement?
Amazon still has room for improvement in terms of being more mature on the monitoring side and in terms of the native capabilities. Amazon is not at all a partner-friendly company. Support from Amazon is not at all good as a partner.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

How are customer service and technical support?

How was the initial setup?
It is easy to deploy. You can quickly deploy and set it up.
What other advice do I have?
Considering the product, support, service, and maturity, I would rate Amazon AWS an eight out of 10.

How was the initial setup?
The initial setup wasn't easy because we implemented this process over two months, and it was a complex process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's an expensive product.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
My company considered not only one provider, and it was really a complicated process to review all the providers. We had our checklist of all necessary requirements, and it was quite complicated. We chose AWS because of its advanced features that let us do everything quickly.

I would recommend this solution to new users.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Amazon AWS a nine.

Service Management Department Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Has good flexibility and high availability
Pros and Cons
- "The features with Amazon AWS that I have found most valuable are its flexibility and high availability. These are the most important and attractive points for me."
- "I also use Google Cloud GCP and AWS cannot directly use the Azure EC2 consult. They could add that feature. Direct connection to the EC2 console server would be very useful."
What is our primary use case?
We are hosting some education servers and web servers.
How has it helped my organization?
We have used Amazon AWS for a very large scale of server deployment. Also, we have run some tests using resources from AWS EC2. We don't have to go out investing for that resource, we just use them for a short period of time and we pay only for that usage. It has helped us scale quickly, and save a lot of money instead of buying those services.
What is most valuable?
The features with Amazon AWS that I have found most valuable are its flexibility and high availability. These are the most important and attractive points for me.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what could be improved, I also use Google Cloud GCP and AWS cannot directly use the Azure EC2 consult. They could add that feature. Direct connection to the EC2 console server would be very useful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I am certified on AWS from the cloud provider side.
I use the RDS, Relational Database Solution, and the EC2 technology on AWS.
I have been using it for more than four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Amazon AWS is quite stable. I have read a lot of reports from third parties, and they also have a robust testing methodology. And from my own experience, I can say that it's really, really very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, the sky is the limit. There is no limit for scalability. If you have money to spend, you get whatever resource you want.
How are customer service and technical support?
We had some issues and we had pretty good support. They even created a special attach for us to solve our problem and they responded very quickly. If you buy the additional support, the support is really good.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easier now. Four years ago it was harder, but nowadays it is a lot easier, because a lot of boiler plate set ups are done for you. So you can just start using it right away, even if you are not experienced.
Four years ago, it was not like this, but it's better now.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of price, it is more expensive than other cloud providers, but it is worth it. It is not that much more, so you can go with it. It's not too bad. It's more expensive than the others, but it's bearable.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten I would rate Amazon AWS a nine.
To bring that up a bit, as I mentioned, I would like to have a direct connection to the EC2 server console. That's why I'm just not giving a 10.
For anyone interested in using Amazon AWS, I would advise them to read the online documentation. It's very clear and shows you step by step how to use the system. If you need more advanced features, you can find a lot of resources on the internet and on their website. So if you want to use a public cloud, I strongly advise using AWS.
