Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy restoration and the solution works quickly."
"The most valuable features are the replication to the cloud and the deduplication."
"One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature."
"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is its decompression capability."
"It is easy to configure."
"It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them."
"The standard backup and restore feature is most used."
"The most valuable features of this solution are that I can by just one click, copy and paste anything that I would want. I do not have to restore the whole virtual machine."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company."
"Technical support has been great."
"The tool's most valuable feature is recovery."
"Compared to a homemade installation, this appliance is very stable."
"The biggest advantage is that I do not need to manage backups on traditional tapes, which helps maintain total business continuity."
"We rarely need their help. I would give their technical support an 8.5 out of ten. We are satisfied."
"It has been our go-to product for backup."

Cons

"We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information."
"We have to use a Microsoft hypervisor for installation which is expensive."
"I don't know whether the tool has VMware integrations. It would be good to cover this area if it doesn't have those."
"I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again."
"The solution can improve by allowing older versions to support the latest version of the OS."
"One area for improvement in Arcserve UDP is its capability to interact with other cloud servers."
"They could work on their marketing approach. I don't see many people leveraging it."
"Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue."
"One area needing improvement is to facilitate Oracle database restores using the GUI on the NetBackup Appliance."
"Our main challenge was deciding on the right capacity for expansion, but once we settled on two NAS servers with sixteen TB, things have been smooth."
"The reporting feature can be improved."
"The upgrade process of the solution needs to be improved since it is extremely complicated, especially without the benefit of a support person who can guide one through it."
"They could simplify the process of installing, and provide more space for data during the process."
"I contacted their support once, and the process was slow, which discouraged further contact."
"The only room for improvement is that the cost per terabyte is extremely high."
"Depending on the setup structure, it can be complex to implement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are annual subscription fees and there are licensing costs for three computers. It is an expensive solution."
"Pricing is most likely comparable."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The licensing cost is for one year. There are not any hidden costs involved in the pricing model of the solution."
"The pricing of the product can be considered to be reasonable enough for the Asian region."
"The solution is very expensive."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"There is a license needed to use Veritas NetBackup Appliance and there are not any additional fees."
"I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"The licensing costs for this solution are very high."

"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"There is a license required for this solution."
