Unified incident response has reduced alert noise and improves on-call focus and coordination
PagerDuty Operations Cloud could improve its noise reduction by making deduplication and suppression more automated instead of manually tuned, and the service dependency graph could be more intuitive with cleaner visuals and easier-to-understand root cause tracing during major incidents. Automation could go further with smarter runbook triggers and AI-driven suggestions to help find root causes, which could save a lot of time for engineers who are struggling to understand what is actually happening. These AI capabilities could lower the time by maybe 50–60%. Analytics and reporting could be more flexible, allowing custom dashboards and filters and team-level MTTA and MTTR breakdowns, so that it is segregated based on teams and it is much easier to have custom dashboards for the teams to understand more. Alert storms were a recurring frustration for the on-call team, and escalation overrides and service dependency graphs can get a bit confusing in larger environments. More customizable analytics and smarter automation would make the platform even easier, more flexible and more powerful for the team to understand. PagerDuty Operations Cloud could improve its analytics flexibility with customized dashboards and AI capabilities to be more trained and more reliable. Service dependency mapping can also feel cluttered in big environments, making it harder to trace upstream and downstream impacts during bigger incidents. We implemented PagerDuty Operations Cloud's AI to help with alert grouping and early incident insights, but accuracy was not consistent enough to rely on during critical events. It occasionally grouped unrelated alerts or missed correlations, which limited the operational efficiency gains we expected. The on-call team still depended heavily on manual triage because AI suggestions were not always aligned with the real root cause. Overall, AI added some value but it has not yet reached the reliability needed to significantly improve the incident response efficiency. It needs more training or more work.

Centralized incident workflows have improved visibility and streamlined communication across teams
Rootly helps me handle those issues by using a predefined template to define roles inside the workflow and utilizing a basic flow, which is very short in its lifecycle. The most powerful feature of Rootly is its visibility; we can create a dashboard and integrate with Slack and Jira, for example, automating many steps in the follow-up process, which helps to centralize all communications around issues. The best features Rootly offers include communication capabilities, particularly the integration with Slack, which stands out for me because it allows for very clean and direct communication with all clients and even with the resolution area. The Slack integration helps my team by creating a specific resolution group and an automation channel inside Slack once an incident is opened in Rootly, ensuring that everyone knows when a new incident arises. It is not just a notification; we create a group where all the relevant people can help solve the issue quickly. The workflow capability of Rootly to create flows is another key feature for our operation, allowing us to establish specific rules for incidents in Jira or manage the metrics we need during the incident lifecycle, effectively automating many manual processes. Rootly has positively impacted my organization, and we have measured its impact by analyzing the number of incidents we handle over a period. With the strategic approach of putting everyone in a Slack group to resolve incidents, we have reduced the percentage of incidents created in a month by thirty percent during the first three months of using Rootly. Other positive outcomes include time savings and improvements in collaboration; the groups inside Slack enable people to communicate across different areas and work directly with client operations, creating synergy and a strong integration between teams.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has positively impacted our organization by ensuring that our banking applications, which operate 24/7, remain functional and efficient, contributing to better service availability."
"From my perspective, PagerDuty Operations Cloud is good, with user-friendly features that anyone can quickly learn, including integration processes, on-call management, and escalation policies, and it is a valuable asset for my organization."
"Together, these features help our team respond faster, stay organized during an incident, and reduce service disruptions for our customers."
"The most valuable feature is definitely the flexibility of the schedule. The mobile app is quite also good for what we do: for receiving alerts, acknowledging, assigning, adding new responders. It has rich features for our needs."
"Because of this product we have less business critical applications being down for lengthy periods, which is invaluable."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud is very stable; it is fabulous and very scalable, rated ten out of ten."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud offers the important advantage that we can easily get notified and work on alerts and system degradation within our RPO and RTO targets."
"Integration-wise, PagerDuty Operations Cloud is flawless."
"With the strategic approach of putting everyone in a Slack group to resolve incidents, we have reduced the percentage of incidents created in a month by thirty percent during the first three months of using Rootly."
"Rootly has positively impacted our organization because, in comparison to ObsGenie, the tool we used before Rootly, it is much more user-friendly, including the user interface and the whole approach to alerting and routing these alerts."
"Rootly has positively impacted my organization by saving time with manually adding timelines, as they are already built in when timelines are added in Slack through integration."
"Rootly has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to receive the on-call alerts successfully, whereas before Rootly, we had issues missing alerts."

Cons

"Concerning PagerDuty Operations Cloud's AI capabilities, I am not certain as we currently do not use advanced AI-related features since our package offers limited access in that area."
"I can only suggest cosmetic improvements to the recorded voice when responding to a page. It should be less angry."
"The initial setup and configuration can be complex, especially for teams managing multiple services, escalation policies, and integrations."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has AI capability but needs some optimization."
"I think PagerDuty Operations Cloud can be improved cost-wise as it is a bit high when compared with Opsgenie services that are offered by Jira, so I think if you can manage that part it will be good."
"I would suggest that the calling service could be adjusted since if a system goes down, the user receives continuous calls, which can be overwhelming."
"The user interface could be more intuitive."
"I would rate PagerDuty Operations Cloud as eight out of ten because the cons include a complex configuration process and high costs for each add-on that I try to obtain, making subscriptions costly, along with limited customization in certain incident workflows."
"The integration process could be easier, perhaps with the addition of AI to facilitate smoother integrations with other applications, especially since those who manage integrations often need technical knowledge about web services and single sign-on processes, which can be challenging for non-technical users."
"Regarding Rootly's AI capabilities, we had one incident when we lost alerting generally because Rootly crashed, and we did not like it."
"There are a few areas where Rootly can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They're very good in pricing compared to the competitors in the area. I would rate them a five out of five in terms of pricing."
"If you add more people, then you have to pay more, which is always a thing with the SaaS solutions."
"The pricing may be about $1,000 per user."
"If we wanted phone calls or additional SMSs, we would have to pitch up for those. They give us so many per month per user, then we have to pay extra if it goes over that."
"The solution is paid on a monthly basis and represents about 1% of the platform's budget."
"PagerDuty has monthly and yearly licenses available, the costs of which can get quite high if you have a large number of users."
"The cost is quite high. But if you want to get a full-featured application and you have a big team..."
"Licensing costs are around $700 a month, and the only additional costs, are phone costs in some instances."
