Automated incident workflows have transformed on-call operations and improved response times
Since I host our internal services, I want more customization relating to our specific use case. The needed improvements include the configuration process, as new team members face a steep learning curve to understand the platform. With many new members, they need training to set up runbook workflows, event orchestration, and manage complex on-call schedules across 23 services, making it a challenge for new users. Additionally, I feel the web interface requires improvements. I would rate PagerDuty Operations Cloud as eight out of ten because the cons include a complex configuration process and high costs for each add-on that I try to obtain, making subscriptions costly, along with limited customization in certain incident workflows. The primary reasons for rating it an eight include the complex configuration which makes it challenging for new users, as well as their difficulty in setting up advanced runbook workflows and managing complex on-call setups. The web user interface also requires improvement. Although I receive alerts via the mobile app, which is beneficial for handling schedule maintenance, the same features should be added to the web interface. Customization issues persist, such as the inability to clone entire schedules as part of the workflows, and I want to keep incidents open for a specified duration, neither of which I can currently customize. Thus, I raised a ticket with PagerDuty Operations Cloud to address these concerns. Furthermore, the cost is high, making it one of the more expensive incident management solutions.

Seamless Slack incidents have standardized my workflows and have streamlined post mortems
Slack-based workflow in Rootly helps my team during incidents by simplifying incident management and workflows, easing writing post-mortems, supporting planned maintenance, and offering valuable team support for migration and training. It's streamlining our incident management process overall, and having everything automated and flexible is extremely valuable through automations. The best features Rootly offers are all-in-one incident management and an intuitive user-friendly GUI. I find the user interface highly intuitive because it's very easy to customize and navigate, even for new users, hence making the learning curve very comfortable and smooth. Rootly is very valuable, especially because it's very cost-effective. It's also very easy to use, and it has a very proactive and supportive customer support team. I have seen a return on investment as Rootly has made interactions smoother and more efficient. The speed of Rootly makes my work more productive.

Pros

"It integrates with multiple applications and is highly customizable, with policies, escalation procedures, and an event routing tool that ensures contacting the right person."
"With the help of PagerDuty Operations Cloud, we are able to fix most of the issues and reduce repetitive issues in our infrastructure."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has a very good impact on our company, especially regarding business and service level agreements, as well as reducing incident resolution time."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud delivers very high performance when notifying users, especially in high-frequency trading environments where even a second of delay can result in billion or trillion dollar transaction losses."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has positively impacted my organization by providing effectiveness and efficiency in the way we work, with less alert fatigue, meaning alerts are rarely missed."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud is the best tool available, and I can confidently say it is the best tool for all aspects, not just incident management or escalation, but for all analytical functions as well."
"Now, we don't have to think about it; we can simply set it up in PagerDuty and it works, with the escalation and everything still functioning reliably based on the configuration we set up six months to one year ago."
"The most valuable feature is definitely the flexibility of the schedule. The mobile app is quite also good for what we do: for receiving alerts, acknowledging, assigning, adding new responders. It has rich features for our needs."
"Rootly has positively impacted our organization because, in comparison to ObsGenie, the tool we used before Rootly, it is much more user-friendly, including the user interface and the whole approach to alerting and routing these alerts."
"Rootly has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to receive the on-call alerts successfully, whereas before Rootly, we had issues missing alerts."
"With the strategic approach of putting everyone in a Slack group to resolve incidents, we have reduced the percentage of incidents created in a month by thirty percent during the first three months of using Rootly."
"Rootly is very valuable, especially because it's very cost-effective, very easy to use, and it has a very proactive and supportive customer support team."

Cons

"The user interface could be more intuitive."
"I would rate PagerDuty Operations Cloud six out of ten because I believe you can add more features to make the platform even better."
"One area where I believe improvement can be made is reporting and dashboard customization to make it more user-friendly."
"PagerDuty's webhooks need some improvement."
"Something that needs to be improved, is adding multilingual support."
"More analytics can be brought into PagerDuty Operations Cloud; while I know there are some, they still seem basic to me, and having options for user-customized charts would be really helpful, especially in this GenAI world where prompts can yield valuable data."
"It would be nice if the app could somehow receive the notification of an incident and allow you to customize the warning method on the device end."
"Operations are somewhat limited by their integration package. For example, integrating with Jira was problematic until they updated to a better plug-in."
"The integration process could be easier, perhaps with the addition of AI to facilitate smoother integrations with other applications, especially since those who manage integrations often need technical knowledge about web services and single sign-on processes, which can be challenging for non-technical users."
"Regarding Rootly's AI capabilities, we had one incident when we lost alerting generally because Rootly crashed, and we did not like it."
"Rootly can be improved as it's slightly buggy for new features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"PagerDuty has monthly and yearly licenses available, the costs of which can get quite high if you have a large number of users."
"They're very good in pricing compared to the competitors in the area. I would rate them a five out of five in terms of pricing."
"The cost is based on the package you select."
"The pricing may be about $1,000 per user."
"If you add more people, then you have to pay more, which is always a thing with the SaaS solutions."
"The price is very high."
"Licensing costs are around $700 a month, and the only additional costs, are phone costs in some instances."
"There is a license needed to use PagerDuty."
