The solution is primarily used for small offices that are looking for backups for Microsoft 365 and they're looking for some local backup for their whole Office 365 environment.
Leading IT Engineer at a tech vendor with 11-50 employees
Simple to set up with excellent pricing and great technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The user interface in general is very good. I"
- "Due to the fact that we are HP and Fugit partners as well, it would be nice if Nakivo would allow support for HP and Fugit storage."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The solution is a very cheap option. It's a clone of Veeam backup and it works in a very similar way for less cost.
They offer great support. The product offers chat options that are available right on the user interface, so at any time, you can reach out to support for assistance. I haven't seen a similar feature in any other solution. The Nakivo is the first one to have implemented it.
The user interface in general is very good. It's very lightweight. It's a web interface, which is quite good. In comparison, their main competition, Veeam, has an external web interface, which requires an additional component to be installed on the server which is not ideal.
The initial setup is simple.
They continuously implement new features. For example, they have brought support for storage devices recently and they are bringing support for duplication appliances. They're constantly growing.
What needs improvement?
It would be ideal if they offered a support portal for users. They should have a portal where the customer would be able to show all cases and the status of all cases and maybe create a new case. Instead, they support the solution directly on the graphical user interface inside their product. While it is easy to create a case in this way, a portal would still be an improvement.
Due to the fact that we are HP and Fugit partners as well, it would be nice if Nakivo would allow support for HP and Fugit storage.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for three or four years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. It just works. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's pretty scalable. You have no issues expanding the solution if you need to.
Three years ago, I did not have many clients on the solution. However, over the last two to three years, the number has grown and more people are using it. Many are migrating over from Veeam.
How are customer service and support?
The support has always been very good. We are quite happy with the level of service we get.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We also work with Veeam.
Veeam was the first solution that started to think about visualization backups. They were the first who started to offer this backup for a virtualized environment. Nakivo were the second and they basically cloned Veeam Backup. They created a cheap clone of Veeam Backup and the prices were much less than Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward. It's very easy to implement, especially if we're talking about mass installations. First of all, they support MaaS. They can install their product on a MaaS network and can attach storage directly. Veeam Backup does not have such an option at all. The installation is very straightforward due to the fact that the installation looks like I'm installing a new application on an iPhone. It can't be simpler.
You only need one person to handle maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of the product is very good. they are quite reasonable and less than other options. They are directly competing with Veeam and offer similar services at less cost.
What other advice do I have?
We are partners with Nakivo.
While our company is using the on-premise deployment version of the solution, our customers are kind of a mix. Some of them use the cloud version and have a backup for the cloud environment. Some of them use on-premises as well.
If customers are looking for a global data application without using any appliances, for example, if they want to try to duplicate all backup jobs together, then Nakivo Backup would be the best option as it has a global data application and Veeam Backup doesn't.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. I like the solution, however, there is always room for improvement.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

I use it for day-to-day backup tasks.
What is most valuable?
The initial setup is very straightforward. I love the Linux version as well. Also, NAKIVO is scalable and stable.
What needs improvement?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
NAKIVO is scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have found the technical support to be satisfactory.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy and straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
From the perspective of Indian users, the cost is a little bit high.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I looked at Veeam and Arcserve.
What other advice do I have?
The licensing cost may be high, but the setup is easy.
On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this solution at eight.

Flexible, multi-platform, easy to use, and the support is responsive
Pros and Cons
- "The back-up and restore functions work great and it's easy to use."
- "At the moment I am pleased with what Nakivo does but I would like more reporting functions and if possible, integration with my RMM system."
What is our primary use case?
We use Nakivo to backup the VMs running at our customer's site. We mainly use ESXi and Hyper-V machines, which usually have two VMs that we want to back-up. We usually install Nakivo on a NAS device, which is a good fit for our customers.
Most of our customers are Small businesses that have small setups.
How has it helped my organization?
We can offer an affordable and reliable backup solution to our customers. It is clear what you get: a back-up solution that does what it promises.
What is most valuable?
I like that Nakivo can be installed on Windows, Linux, and on a NAS. This gives flexibility in the way we can offer solutions. Other than that, I like the core features. The back-up and restore functions work great and it's easy to use.
What needs improvement?
At the moment I am pleased with what Nakivo does but I would like more reporting functions and if possible, integration with my RMM system.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Nakivo for about two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Nakivo is stable and we haven't had any problems as of yet.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scaling will be dependant on other factors like storage.
How are customer service and technical support?
I also have good experiences with Nakivo as a company. The account manager is nice and reaches out to us whenever Nakivo has a new feature that he would like to share. If there are any questions on our part, we get a good and quick response.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. You are guided and there is a lot of information on the website.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Talk to the sales department about all of the possibilities, as they will help you to find the best solution for your setup.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We tested Veeam and while it is a decent option, we think that the price is too high for the functions you get. That is why we started looking at Nakivo.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Centralized control console is rock solid and extremely easy to manage
Pros and Cons
- "The first implementation is a bit difficult but once is up and running is rock solid and extremely easy to manage."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is for cloud/datacenter/infrastructure backup. We have set up a centralized multitenant console to manage our customer backups from multi datacenter sources. We have a unique director and many transporters accross many infrastructures and we centrally manage customer's backups.
How has it helped my organization?
The centralized cloud console for many tenants is great and clear and helped us to grant a BaaS service of excellence.
What is most valuable?
The centralized cloud console for many tenants is great and clear. The first implementation is a bit difficult but once is up and running is rock solid and extremely easy to manage.
What needs improvement?
At the moment the solution is just great for our needs.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Nakivo for three years.

We tried Veeam but the price was excessive and we have a better percentage of successful backups with Nakivo.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was a bit complex but not too hard.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented in-house.
What was our ROI?
The ROI is more than other backup solutions. The price for a license is nice and leaves a good margin for the service provider.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Veeam.

We have been able to set up a failover site that has replicas of our critical VMs
Pros and Cons
- "The ability to create a replica of all virtual machines is a great feature."
- "We have been able to set up a failover site that has replicas of our critical VMs."
- "You can have it setup and running within a few minutes."
- "It would be great if the product could be expanded to support other virtual technologies."
What is our primary use case?
We are testing and using Nakivo as a backup and replication solution for our VMware environment.
How has it helped my organization?
We have been able to set up a failover site that has replicas of our critical VMs. These are then updated every hour with only changed data. The speed of the backup is excellent and allows for replicas to be updated without affecting production workloads.
What is most valuable?
The ability to create a replica of all virtual machines is a great feature. The replicate feature is the most valuable, however second to it is not having to install clients on all VMs.
What needs improvement?
It would be great if the product could be expanded to support other virtual technologies, like KVM or oVirt. Also, if it could support physical machine backup that would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
Trial/evaluations only.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are in the process of switching for two main reasons:
- Reducing costs.
- Improving backups by not having to install clients on each VM.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is very easy, and the flow follows a very logical process to configure.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Just try it. You can have it setup and running within a few minutes.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We also looked into Acronis, however it seemed to have about the same functions at around three times the cost per host.

Works with 201-500 employees
Easy to recover individual files after accidental deletion or corruption
Pros and Cons
- "Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly."
- "We want the backup job to consume fewer resources, as the utilization is very high if we choose the best compression."
What is our primary use case?
We implemented Nakivo Backup & Replication as a backup system for our customer. It supports their VMware vSphere environment.
The environment is made up of one director, one onboard transporter, one direct SAN repository, and for offsite backup, it has one transporter and one SAN direct repository.
How has it helped my organization?
Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly.
The Nakivo scheduled job also provides backup verification that will help us to ensure the backup is running properly and is truly recoverable.
What is most valuable?
One of the key features is the ease in recovering individual files. In the customer environment, often accidentally, files are removed or broken. With Nakivo they can easily be recovered.
Another key feature is the ability to install multiple transporters to increase the backup duration for multiple backup jobs at one time.
What needs improvement?
We want the backup job to consume fewer resources, as the utilization is very high if we choose the "best compression' option.
There was a problem we found regarding the repostory. When we enable the schedule for space reclaimation, once the schedule is trigerred the reclaimation will detach the repository but after 1 week we found that the repository is on detach status so we should detach it manuallu. We didn't know actually the reclaimation is on progress or already finsihed
For how long have I used the solution?
Approximately two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good. Provided the overall component is ok, the job runs normally and quickly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's good enough that the software can be scaled up and scaled out, depending on your requirements.
