IT Administrator at a tech vendor with 51-200 employees
The full product is very complex plus the licensing left much to be improved
Valuable Features:
I've been using Quality Center for 11 months.
Improvements to My Organization:
As long as procedures are clear, then anyone can execute the tests. It no longer has to be the person that initially discovered the issue.
Room for Improvement:
Full product is very complex plus the licensing left much to be improved.
Deployment Issues:
No - We were a smaller company than most.
Stability Issues:
No - We were a smaller company than most.
Scalability Issues:
No - We were a smaller company than most.
Customer Service:
No dealings with them or the technical support
Initial Setup:
Unknown as was not involved in initial setup
Implementation Team:
In-house team
Other Advice:
a. Check the licensing as we had to log off from the tool as the company could not afford a license for every person. This was bypassed eventually by having a client performing the login, get your data out and logoff.

Head of QA at a analyst firm with 501-1,000 employees
Very strong product but I would like to see integration with an Agile Tool
Valuable Features:
I've used this product for 8 years. I find Managing Test Life Cycle and Reporting to be the most valuable components.
Improvements To Organization:
Test Management has become very easy. All the test cases are tracked and reports can be run on various factors to decide productivity, code status, defect density etc.
Room For Improvement:
Integration with an Agile Tool (e.g. RTC)
Deployment Issues:
No
Stability Issues:
No
Scalability Issues:
No
Customer Service:
Very Good
Technical Support:
Very Good
Initial Setup:
It's straightforward but sometimes it can interfere with other products because of lots of client components.
Other Advice:
It's a very strong product which comes up with lots of additional add-ins.

I would like to comment about HP Agile Manager (Agile Project Management Tool). It is very well integrated with HP QC, it mean, this integration is out-of-the-box, bidirectional and free of charge. If you want you can try it without compromise.
Project Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
We deal with our test cases and execution, and the mapping is taken care by the product
What is most valuable?
Features that support documentation and test results from Requirements through Test Cases to Scripts to Execution results (pass or fail), then to Defects.
How has it helped my organization?
Life was made easy by shifting the MS Office documentation to the product. We deal with our test cases and execution, and the mapping is taken care by the product. You pass/fail a test case and product tells you what requirements/features of the product are good to go into production.
What needs improvement?
Auto-generation of automation scripts. Integration into the UTF (earlier QTP) has little more scope to improve.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used this solution for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No.
How are customer service and technical support?
A nine out of 10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
No.
How was the initial setup?
Straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Very expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Some Open Source tools, but did not choose them as they lack support.
What other advice do I have?
Have a skilled person to do the administration. You will love the ease of reporting that results in.

Quality Analyst at a tech services company with 501-1,000 employees
It's helped in formalizing and adding structure to what was a series of checklists that were not version controlled.
What is most valuable?
- Test Plan section to capture test cases
- Test Lab to run those test cases
- The built-in defect management tool
How has it helped my organization?
It's helped in formalizing and adding structure to what was up to that point in time a series of checklists that were not version controlled. Also, test results were not rigorously reported back to the internal customer(s).
What needs improvement?
Report generation needs to be simplified.
For how long have I used the solution?
I used it for roughly a year on a contract.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I did not choose this product. It was onsite before I started the contract with this particular client. I have seen and used this product at a few client sites.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I did not choose this product, it was onsite before I started the contract with this particular client, and I have seen and used this product at a few client sites.
How was the initial setup?
I was already used to setting up the directory-like structure in Test Plan.
What about the implementation team?
An in-house team performed implementation as needed.

QA Lead at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees
Managing the test cases is one of the most valuable parts of the tool.
Valuable Features:
- Test Plan
- Test Lab
- Defects tracking and management
Improvements to My Organization:
Managing the test cases and defects tracking are the most valuable features, which we use daily.
Room for Improvement:
I like all the features and can't think of anything that needs improving.
Use of Solution:
I've been using it for eight years.
Deployment Issues:
No issues encountered.
Stability Issues:
No issues encountered.
Scalability Issues:
No issues encountered.
Cost and Licensing Advice:
Nowadays, all companies are looking for free software, and for this reason, many companies are developing their own tools similar to Quality Center and using that tool instead. License costs have a direct effect on the ROI of the company.
Other Advice:
It's an excellent tool.

QA Specialist II at a tech services company with 501-1,000 employees
It allows us to keep test cases and defects centrally located, however, the UI is primitive and the tool is hard to learn.
Valuable Features:
The ability to keep test cases and defects centrally located, accessible to multiple people instead of in document format, is the most valuable feature.
Improvements to My Organization:
We no longer need to use documents for test cases, which are brittle and difficult to keep updated.
Room for Improvement:
- The UI is primitive
- The tool is hard to learn
- The help files are minimal, even the videos
- The massive configuration options are too broad, meaning there is little in common across deployments
Use of Solution:
I've used it for a few months, but I also have experience with Quality Center, the predecessor.
Deployment Issues:
I wasn't involved in the deployment.
Stability Issues:
The site has to be reloaded every time there is a change in the background.
Scalability Issues:
No issues encountered.
Initial Setup:
It was complex, as I was not given permission to delete items, for example. Trying to create test cases via copy-and-paste can be cumbersome, and it was easy to misread the directory structure or put cases in the wrong location.
Cost and Licensing Advice:
I believe that the tool is probably not worth great expense, although it is better than remaining tied to documents and spreadsheets.
Other Advice:
Try MS Test Manager first, particularly if your code is .Net and/or your developers use Visual Studio.

Test Analyst at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
The tool is user friendly
What is most valuable?
- Different modules (e.g. Requirements, Test Plan, Test Lab)
- Trace-ability from requirements, test cases and defects
- Project Analysis in terms of progress - Dashboard (Reports)
How has it helped my organization?
- Had different releases and in QC we could group our test cases according to releases and we could know when each release starts and when it ends
For how long have I used the solution?
3+ years
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
No
What about the implementation team?
In-house
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Not certain

Totally agree with you on the licencing costs and complexity. HPE do seem to use these as an easy cash cow but I always maintain you get what you pay for. I've yet to fully understand their way of doing things even after all these years.
