Enhancing team communication and collaboration through organized channels, real-time messaging, seamless file sharing, and versatile third-party integrations
Pros and Cons
  • "It allows to facilitate communication, allowing us to create channels for updates, file sharing, and photo sharing within our team profiles."
  • "Integrating Slack with calendar functions would be advantageous, allowing for the seamless scheduling of meetings within the platform."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use it for sharing official documents and compositions instead of using platforms like WhatsApp. Although we haven't utilized it for meetings, the main purpose behind creating and using it is to streamline the sharing of official information within our team.

What is most valuable?

It allows to facilitate communication, allowing us to create channels for updates, file sharing, and photo sharing within our team profiles.

What needs improvement?

Integrating Slack with calendar functions would be advantageous, allowing for the seamless scheduling of meetings within the platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for two months now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its scalability is evident in its ability to handle a varying number of users, channels, and integrations, making it suitable for businesses of different sizes and complexities. I would rate it eight out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously employed Google Workspace. Slack provides visibility into the online status of team members when the application is active, it doesn't track users outside of the platform. Unlike some other tools, such as Gmail, where your online status isn't visible to others when you're using it, Slack primarily serves as a communication and collaboration platform.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

Easy-to-use and intuitive collaboration tool
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is scalable."
  • "Its capabilities to provide security features could be better for corporations."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for communication within our internal teams and with external organizations.

What is most valuable?

The solution is intuitive, easy to use, and has many essential features. Also, the notifications features for its mobile version work the best. In addition, we can set it up as per our preferences, which is helpful and advanced.

What needs improvement?

The solution's capabilities to provide security features for corporations could be better. Along with it, the mobile version's calls and sharing video features could be faster.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for more than four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution's stability for the mobile version could be better as it freezes sometimes. At the same time, it works fine for the desktop version.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We have 150 users in our organization.

What other advice do I have?

It is a good collaboration tool. It makes communication within our organization easier. Our Administrators can also lock down the channels for exchanging messages and use them as an announcement tool.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

A chat tool that large groups can use, but with a need to improve its interface
Pros and Cons
  • "In terms of setup, approaching its menu is simple."
  • "Slack's interface is not simple for me. It's not a user-friendly interface"

What is our primary use case?

I use it if I want to search for information from Kubernetes communities, and then I chat with someone who already has knowledge or knows about Kubernetes. I use it to talk to people using other software like Kubernetes.

What is most valuable?

It is a really trendy tool for uploading information with cutting-edge technology. I can browse all the information to find what I want to really know.

What needs improvement?

In comparison to Teams or other tools, Slack's interface is not simple for me. It's not a user-friendly interface.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Slack for almost three months. I am using its cloud version. I just downloaded it from the internet as a third-party solution or software. I am a user of the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The engineers in their department use Slack. Around 50 engineers use Slack.

How was the initial setup?

In terms of setup, approaching its menu is simple. However, when I went to click and change the account, I was confused regarding whether it was proceeding or not.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is an expensive tool. We pay 15 to 20 USD monthly per user.

What other advice do I have?

I suggest those planning to use Slack to get another social network software such as Teams or Chanty, a tool used in South Korea, are very good. I think Chanty is used in South Korea, especially in the IT sector of Korea.

I rate the overall solution a six out of ten.

The most valuable feature is the ability to be a part of multiple Slack channels that are specific to our needs.

What is most valuable?

The feature that is most valuable is the ability to be a part of multiple Slack channels that are all specific to our needs i.e. a product, infrastructure, personal one-on-one, small specific group, feature discussion, IT assistance, company announcements, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

The quick line of communication, most certainly improves the functionality of our organization. Discussions can happen at the drop of a hat, in a Slack channel and a critical decision can be agreed upon to take further action. Triage of customer issues can happen at the moment of crisis and this is of huge assistance as to how we can get our product back up and running, when needed.

What needs improvement?

I'd like the ability to re-organize the channels in my list. You can favorite a channel but you can't organize them in a specific order, that fits your every day use. I'd also improve it's security. It can be breached easier than an email client, so we tend to keep more confidential conversations out of the app.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have personally used this solution for over two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Our Slack bots have issues from time to time. There have been a few times where the app was done but other than that, it has been a solid performer.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There were no issues with the scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have personally not used technical support for Slack.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Gchat as a source to speak to each other but channel functionality is very important in Slack.

How was the initial setup?

I was not part of the initial setup.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am sure that other options were evaluated but I was not a part of that decision-making process.

What other advice do I have?

Providing API connections to your bug database and any other database that you use, can give you updates and links inside of a channel, which is a huge help.

It has a narrow set of features focused on team communication. I guess that's why it works well.

What is most valuable?

  • Channel conversations, because it's an easy way to get to a few people or a whole team at the same time.
  • Private conversations, because they're simple, convenient and they work!
  • Slackbot reminders, because it's a simple way to set a reminder for yourself or a colleague, without messing with calendars.
  • Integrations. For instance, thanks to integration of our own application Woodpecker.co with Slack through Zapier, we get notified each time one of our users starts the paying process and each time they complete it. We can actually see the new customers coming on board in real time.
  • Slack is just a communicator, no more. It has a narrow set of features focused on team communication. It's simple. I guess that's why it works so well for us.

How has it helped my organization?

Everyone's up to date with what's going on in our product development, marketing and sales. We communicate faster and no one has any troubles learning how to use the communicator.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see if someone has already read my message, but that's just a whim, not really a necessary must-have feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used the solution for over two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We hardly ever had any issues with stability. I remember Slack was only down once over the whole time I've been using it so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't yet had any issues with scalability, but our team is quite small with only 17 people at the moment.

How are customer service and technical support?

In fact, I never felt the need to contact support, so I have no experience with that, but I guess that's great!

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used a number of solutions which were really only a feature of a bigger product.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was simple for me, but I was joining the team someone else set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We're using the free version and some people from our team wish that the message history had not been removed, so if you sometimes need to go back a few months in a conversation, the paid version would be something to consider.

What other advice do I have?

Definitely give Slack a try.

A stable platform for video conferencing, but in-meeting content sharing need to be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are video conferencing and sharing content during meetings."
  • "I would like the in-meeting content sharing facility to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Slack for having meetings with one of our vendors.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are video conferencing and sharing content during meetings.

What needs improvement?

I would like the in-meeting content sharing facility to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Slack for about one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Slack is stable and we haven't had any problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not had issues with scalability but our audiences in the meetings have not been large.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is fine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In addition to Slack, we use Microsoft Teams as well as Skype. I think that all of these products are comparable, with nothing, in particular, that is an advantage or disadvantage.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, Slack meets the needs that we have.

I would rate this solution as average, at five out of ten.

Good content management with named channel capability to focus projects
Pros and Cons
  • "Slack is a powerpack bundle of features that help small or large organizations to handle teams and their tasks."
  • "I would like to see the social sharing of blogs, announcements, or other news directly from the message corner."

What is our primary use case?

I use Slack to communicate mainly for content related tasks with clients as they find it easy and quick to keep track of all of the on-going projects. Most importantly, it helped me to communicate with other content writers whenever I have to work in a team for a particular content project.

How has it helped my organization?

Earlier, while we used to communicate through email, it was good but it became difficult to keep track of all the projects and keep ourselves updated with the latest changes. Since we started using Slack, we have been able to solve each other's problems and identify all of the loopholes within a reasonable timeline.

What is most valuable?

Slack is a powerpack bundle of features that help small or large organizations to handle teams and their tasks. Personally, I love the feature that gives you the ability to name a channel as per task and include/exclude members within that channel to eradicate all other disturbances.

What needs improvement?

According to my observation, a large size file sharing feature is what can be expected, which will centralize all activities within Slack and that can save a lot of time.

I would like to see the social sharing of blogs, announcements, or other news directly from the message corner.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three years.
