How are customer service and support?
Technical support is great. they are fast and very helpful. We are satisfied with their level of service.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
The deployment is fats. It took us about three to four hours to do a basic installation with our client.
We have 25 to 30 admins that can handle maintenance and deployment within our organization.
What about the implementation team?
We help out clients install the product.
I personally can handle the implementation myself and don't need a consultant or integrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is high. They need to work to make it lower or more competitive.
Our customers directly purchase the license.

Per the customer requirement, we are providing consultancy services and providing the licenses, as well as implementation services to clients.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. We're quite satisfied with its capabilities.

Supports multiple environments, easy to use, and stable
Pros and Cons
- "It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us."
- "We want a solution that can be scaled-out because our data is growing very quickly, and we aren't able to back it up quickly. It takes one or two days, which is a problem. It is very slow. We just use one backup server. We want another solution with maybe a backup server cluster to back up more data in one day. We want a solution that can be scaled-out to back up our data quickly and efficiently."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veritas to back up our database and our project's data, such as chart layouts, research and data files, to tape library or network-attached storage (NAS).
What is most valuable?
It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us.
What needs improvement?

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We just use it on one backup server. Our data is growing, and it is taking more time to back up our complete data. It is very slow. We want a solution that can be scaled-out to back up our data quickly and efficiently.
In terms of the number of users, we have 20 to 30 users of this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is not convenient in China these days because of the virus. It may be because the engineers from the vendor are working from home, so we cannot get telephone support. We can only use email support, which is not efficient.
How was the initial setup?
Its initial setup is not very complex. It took us one or two months to deploy it. We have a team of five IT people for deployment.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. We are a system integrator, and we have a lot of users who have been using this solution for ten years. The only problem that we are facing now is of speed. We will continue to use it, but we are also looking for a better solution to back up more quickly. Speed is our main requirement. We might continue to use Veritas if they can provide a parallel solution, a cluster solution, or a cloud solution to back up our data more quickly. Otherwise, we will switch to another vendor.
I would rate Veritas NetBackup a nine out of ten.

Simplest on the market, scalable and stable
Pros and Cons
- "I have found it to be the simplest solution to the market. It gives us a complete end to end solution. We are using this solution, Veritas Appliance and another one for access archiving. It is convenient to have all the support from one vendor."
- "Support for the solution needs improvement."
What is our primary use case?
We are using the solution as a storage unit.
What is most valuable?
I have found it to be the simplest solution on the market. It gives us a complete end to end solution. We are using this solution, Veritas Appliance and another one for access archiving. It is convenient to have all the support from one vendor.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for more than ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In my experience it is scalable. We have five administrators involved in using the solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Support for the solution needs improvement. When we contacted support with issues, we had to be passed on to the higher level of the support team, going from level one through to three. We only managed to get a solution for our issues once we spoke to the level three support team. The lower level support is not familiar with the complexity and did not have any answers. When we frequently dealt with the support they were not able to pass us on directly to level three. This was tiresome having to deal with the lower levels not being qualified for a solution until we managed to get to level three.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Veritas NetBackup an eight out of ten.

You can take a full backup with incremental speed and integrate it with block tracking
Pros and Cons
- "I like NetBackup's accelerator feature. You can take a full backup with incremental speed and integrate it with block tracking."
- "NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor."
What is our primary use case?
NetBackup is used for backup in an enterprise environment. If you have VMware, Windows or Linux, and complicated database machines, like Power or Eonix, then NetBackup is appropriate for this kind of environment.
What is most valuable?
I like NetBackup's accelerator feature. You can take a full backup with incremental speed and integrate it with block tracking.
What needs improvement?
NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've used NetBackup for nearly six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
NetBackup is highly stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would give NetBackup a 10 out of 10 for scalability.
What other advice do I have?
I rate NetBackup nine out of 10. If you're implementing it, I wouldn't recommend installing the media server on a VMware environment. I would also suggest getting some limitations for a LAN-free backup.

Good platform compatibility and fast backup
Pros and Cons
- "Best feature is its three-tier backup."
- "Main area that could be improved is the pricing, to make it more competitive"
What is our primary use case?
My primary use case of this solution is backup for the production server and then for the development. The platform is back up for Linux, Selaris, HP, Apex, IAAS, AIX, and then for the virtualization, VMware, backup to AWS, and the container route.
What is most valuable?
Veritas NetBackup's best feature is its three-tier backup, which makes the process a lot faster. I have also found their duplication feature to be valuable, as it allows duplication in the client side, a media server side, or in OST storage. The product also has a lot of compatibility with platforms.
What needs improvement?
I think the main area that could be improved is the pricing, to make it more competitive. In the next release, I would like to see the ability to back up Office 365 and Google Workspace.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for around ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The remote support and their support center are good. The knowledge base provided on their website is also very helpful.
How was the initial setup?
The product is easy to set up in small environments, but it would be more complex in larger ones.
What other advice do I have?
I think Veritas NetBackup is the perfect product for a backup system. I would rate this product as nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good functionalities with virtual environments, fairly-priced, but the support needs improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is flexibility."
- "In regards to protecting the physical servers with parameters, it's a long and difficult process."
What is our primary use case?
We are service providers. We provide services to our clients.
We use it to protect the workloads on the customer's site. We also use it to protect our site.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is flexibility. The flexibility to deploy according to the customer's needs. It allows you to add one server and the flexibility to add more servers, in case you want to increase your workloads.
It has good documentation and support. It has good online communication with support.
It has the flexibility to get the experience required to manage and solve any issue related to the product.
The product itself has good functionalities with virtual environments, such as Hyper-V and VMware.
It can protect almost all databases, such as Cyber databases, and Oracle.
It also has the flexibility to install and configure backups for physical and virtual servers at once.
What needs improvement?
They started deploying with web interfaces, new web interfaces, but it doesn't have all of the functionalities as the Java consoles have.
They are now adding more functionalities to the web interfaces that we need. In one or two years, you will have the full functionality using the web interface.
They need to improve the interface.
In regards to protecting the physical servers with parameters, it's a long and difficult process.
I have tested this in Veeam and it was much easier to implement. With NetBackup, you have to configure the server and many other requirements in the process. You could have issues with restoring if the parameter is installed to different hardware.
There are also a lot of requirements with the integration of SharePoint and Exchange. This is an area that customers complain about. They don't like that you have all of the requirements before you can configure the backup.
Veeam is much easier to integrate with Exchange. With NetBackups there are many prerequisites that make it difficult for the customer.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for more than seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's very scalable. You can start with one server and you can scale your workload and cases.
You can add different functionality with the servers. You can scale it to different sites if you need to implement the different sites and then configure replications between sites.
You can also migrate from one server to another server. If your hardware is not sufficient or if you need to refresh your hardware.
It gives you the flexibility to migrate all of the data to new hardware and to change from a single server to a cluster. You can also change from one server to an appliance.
You have all of the flexibility and scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate technical support a seven out of ten. At times, you will receive helpful and fast support, and other times they struggle with some issues and take time to get back to the client and log the ticket to see what the issue and they analyze the logs.
You have to have experience. They are dedicated to solving the issue but sometimes there are delays.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is fair.
What other advice do I have?
I have a lot of experience with it and I have a lot of experience with Veeam. I think that the only weakness with Veritas is the user interface. It's not friendly and it's not easy to understand.
For functionality in protecting the data, it has all of the requirements to protect any workload on the virtual machines.
It's the best solution in the market right now.
If you are considering Veritas, you should have a qualified team that is trained in using NetBackup. If the team does not have the required experience, they will find it difficult and they will think that it an issue with the product.
It is a good product as long as you have a good team to manage it at each stage.
I would rate Veritas NetBackup a seven out of ten.
