We use Veritas NetBackup for backup.
I am the head of the institution and my team is using this solution. It is used by my team. It is evaluated and secured by me, but my storage team uses it 100 percent. I manage this product.

I am the head of the institution and my team is using this solution. It is used by my team. It is evaluated and secured by me, but my storage team uses it 100 percent. I manage this product.
I am comfortable with using this product.
I don't believe that it is flexible enough for business operations and other things.
Unlike Veeam, Veritas does not provide a Community Edition.
The restoration method and the compression ratio need improvement.
I had been using Veritas NetBackup for ten years.
I am now working with the Veeam Backup solution. I have been working with Veeam Backup for two and half years. I am using the Community Edition.
I am very satisfied with this product. It's stable and scales well.
We never approached Veeam for technical help as a community addition because community addition does not include technical support.
I would rate Veeam Backup a nine out of ten.
The restoration method and the compression ratio, appear to be slightly better than Veritas.
Both are different, it is difficult to compare. I am comfortable in both they are neck in neck in terms of competition.
It is reasonably priced.
It is dependent on the institution as well as the company's requirements. Veeam provides a free corporate license for their platform, whereas Veritas does not. Perhaps there will be a trial version period, after which we will need to purchase it.
Veeam, for example, has a Community Edition, which is free for usage, without any support. This does not exist in Veritas. You can try it for 30, 40 days, or a month trial, then you need to pay for it and start the obligation. For example, I use Veeam without any subscription or license. There is a big difference.
I would rate Veritas NetBackup an eight out of ten.
We are a solution provider and Veritas NetBackup is one of the backup and recovery solutions that we implement for our customers.
This is a product that I recommend for enterprise environments with mixed servers.
It supports Unix, Linux, Solaris, and AIX servers very well. It supports multiple, heterogeneous platforms.
This is a good product for backing up Oracle databases.
The interface is very easy to navigate. I could step away from the product and not use it for two years, then return and find that I can easily navigate all of the features.
The deployment time is longer than it is with other products.
I have been using Veritas NetBackup since 1998.
This is a very stable product.
This is a scalable product and it is the one that I recommend for large environments. I like the combination of Veritas and Data Domain.
In my new company, where I am now, I have three or four customers who are using this product.
The technical support from Veritas is good.
I have experience with several backup and recovery solutions, including products by Veritas, Commvault, and Veeam.
Installing Veritas is okay and I find it easy. It can be deployed by one engineer.
Deploying Veritas will take longer than other products, such as Veeam. The length of time it takes depends on how big the environment is, and how many servers there are.
The licensing fees are expensive. It is a capacity-based license that is billed on a yearly basis. I renew it every year.
I know this product well and it is very good. I definitely recommend it for others if they have a very heterogeneous environment. This is not a product for smaller customers. I have other recommendations, such as Backup Exec, which is very cheap and good for SMB-level customers.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
It is used to back up the hypervisor. In terms of its version, we keep it updated from time to time, but we are not using its latest version currently.
Deduplication is quite efficient. It is not a complex product. It is quite simple.
It should be able to integrate with the cloud. If we leverage a cloud in the future for backup, there should be very fast help and more options for customers to choose from.
We have been using this solution for many years.
It is quite stable.
It is scalable. We have less than ten users, and they are mostly the IT staff. We don't have many users because we use a tool to back up from the central file servers. Users don't directly use it to back up on their own, but when a user needs to restore something, they come to IT.
We have a local partner for support, and they contact Veritas. Our local partner is quite okay and experienced in the product.
We were using Backup Instant, which is a smaller version of the Veritas NetBackup solution. We didn't use any other solution.
Its installation is quite straightforward. The deployment can take a week if you have a clear backup requirement.
We have a consultant to help. If you are doing an installation that is related to the hypervisor, you need an engineer for support because of the connected drivers and equipment.
Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses.
We plan to keep using this solution. I would rate Veritas NetBackup an eight out of ten.
The security of the solution can be improved to include a secure backup feature with full encryption capabilities.
I have been using the solution for about one or two years.
The solution is stable.
The solution is scalable.
It is important, when we chose a solution, that the customer service/technical support team could help us when we needed it, but the support was good.
I previously used Dell EMC Avamar and NetWorker.
The initial setup and deployment can be done in one day and one night.
The implementation of the solution was done in-house. The implementation involved having someone from the network team, and someone for the storage and backup.
I do not really like NetBackup as it is coming from a mix of other software packages.
Our primary use case of this solution is to back up everything including VMs, email, our databases, Oracle, SQL. I'm a network security specialist and we are customers of Veritas.
The solution has many great features, particularly the feature they provide for deduplication. They have also recently included a new feature on the interface, where you can connect remotely and get any report, rather than having to check the solution through the server. They have different solutions for different things, so if you need to back up, for example, they have a solution for backing up on cloud or on-premise.
The cost of the license could be improved, it's quite expensive.
I've been using this solution for 10 years.
The scalability of the product is very good. We have three to four admins dealing with the solution directly, but we do the backup for the whole organization.
We receive very good support through our partner. We've been with them for over 10 years.
The initial setup was very straightforward and quick. We used a consultant for the initial implementation and for minor upgrades or minor changes, our internal team is responsible. If it's something major, our partner deals with it.
The new updates in this solution have really made a difference and added to the value.
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.
We are a solution provider and Veritas NetBackup is one of the backup and recovery products that we resell to our clients.
This product works well for all of our use cases.
The most valuable feature is the ease of use. NetBackup is very easy for end-users.
We have never had a problem restoring data.
NetBackup has all of the features that you would expect. It includes differential and incremental backups, snapshots, virtual backup, backing up to the cloud, and backing up on-premises.
The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing. With more customers working with virtual machines, they are now licensing based on the number of CPU cores. Some customers choose Veeam because if they have two servers with 100 terabytes then that is four CPU cores, and it will cost less than it would with NetBackup. This is a change from the past, where the licensing was on a per-socket basis.
I have been working with Veritas netBack for about two years. My company has been involved with backup solutions from different vendors for about 30 years.
This is a very stable product and better than IBM in this regard.
It is very easy to scale. There are two different solutions, where Backup Exec is for small to medium-sized businesses, and NetBackup is for medium to enterprise-sized organizations.n.
We are very satisfied with the technical support.
We also work with products from Veeam and IBM. I have about 10 years of experience with IBM Spectrum Protect but the support for it is very poor in Egypt. For this reason, we prefer to work with Veritas NetBackup and Veeam.
With IBM, there have been many times where we were unable to restore data.
IBM uses many agents for backup tasks, whereas Veritas uses only one agent for backing up files, databases, and applications. The IBM approach is more complex.
It is very easy and straightforward to set up. The length of time required for deployment depends on the implementation and the number of servers. I would say that the average is between three and four days.
We have two people to deploy this solution.
Licensing fees are charged based on the number of CPU cores.
Overall, NetBackup is a good product and the only problem is the licensing module. We would really like to have socket-based licensing.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
We are a partner and a user of Veritas NetBackup. As a company, we are using Veritas for our internal data backup and recovery.
Improvements can be made to the service by providing better and more competitive ratios on data backups. The functionality for backups is there with Veritas, but I would like to see them optimize and enhance this feature more.
Technical support from the vendor's perspective has been very proactive. They are very active in responding to customer support requests. Their response times have been good and the people are great to deal with when it comes to troubleshooting and solving problems. Veritas knows what they are doing and they have excellent experience in their own product line.
We were previously using Veritas.
We implemented through a vendor. The vendor was very proactive. The response was great. They were knowledgable and experienced; the team got the job done.
Veritas Netbackup offers affordable licensing.
We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective.
My advice is that it is a perfect product. I would rate it an 8 out of 10 overall. I wouldn't give it a ten because it doesn't have the necessary full backup capabilities and because it is missing functionalities like the archiving feature which is not there.
It helped us to:
The Replication Director, Auto Image Replication, Accelerator, Oracle Intelligent Policy, synthetic and VADP backups are the most valuable features.
The virtual environment, cloud integration, copy data management features need improvement.
There were no stability issues.
There were no scalability issues.
Technical support is excellent.
Initially, we were using IBM TSM and Legato Networker (now EMC NetWorker). However, due to the support and legacy of the product features, we switched over to this solution.
The setup was straightforward, it is easy to configure and user-friendly to administer.
Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI.
We looked at HPE Data Protector and Commvault.
It is an excellent product, i.e., if you are looking for a stable and performance oriented backup infrastructure with improved RPO and RTO.
