helped clients with cognitive capability which has increased the number of use cases for automation
Pros and Cons
  • "The recorder feature for front end automation and email packages is the most valuable feature as it has more features and it makes the email server related tasks easier and more independent on the email client."
  • "The inclusion of word packages would help us to extract data from Word and automate word-related activities easily."

What is our primary use case?

We have use cases that include cognitive as well as non cognitive requirements. IQ Bot is widely used across all the use cases. We are also looking forward to make use of the Excel ribbon and AARI framework.

One of our use case needs is to extract data from KYC documents and then do the validations to submits the rejection reason.

Another use case is to read customer information for FD booking and validate the customer data with the system's data and book the FD in the specified amount of time.

Similarly we have around 12 use cases for the development/UAT.

How has it helped my organization?

AA has improved our organization in a positive manner. It has increased the productivity of our clients and reduced manual, hectic work.

It has reduced the labor work and reduced the prone to error situations because of automation.

AA has helped the client with cognitive capability which has increased the number of use cases for automation.

It has increased the client's confidence in depending on bots and reduce the workforce.

ROI for clients has increased and productivity has also increased effectively because of AA.

What is most valuable?

The recorder feature for front end automation and email packages is the most valuable feature as it has more features and it makes the email server related tasks easier and more independent on the email client. Integration of VB, python, and java scripts help us to make our code more reliable. Excel basic and excel advanced package with increased features help us to easily automate the Excel related tasks.

PDF package is also valuable for PDF to image conversion, encryption, decryption, and merging.

OCR package is also valuable as it helps to read the contents of Image.

What needs improvement?

The inclusion of word packages would help us to extract data from Word and automate word-related activities easily.

PDF package should have the Read from PDF option. Now we need to convert the word to PDF and then extract data.

The quick mapping between the parent and child bot variables should be available.

Different tasks should be visible at the same time. Now we need to open different browser tabs to view multiple codes at the same time.

A2019 has more features than the v11 version but some mentioned that user-friendly features should be enabled.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AA for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

A2019 is less stable than the previous versions. But hope that it will get stabilized soon.

How are customer service and support?

AA provides 24/7 support and with the effective ticketing tool, issues are addressed at the earliest.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use any different solution for automation previously.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward, we had all the pre-requisites in place.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this through an in-house team.

What was our ROI?

ROI has increased than earlier in much higher percentage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't have much idea on this, as I am an RPA developer. I would suggest talking to a sales person about this.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We had completed the training for UiPath and AntWorks as well. But we are using AA effectively.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Good performance speeds and strengthens processes, but it needs to be more intuitive
Pros and Cons
  • "I consider the verification station very useful because it allows you to quickly check if the data extracted are correct or if you need to change the process."
  • "You could improve the tools for reading CSV/Excel, also providing wizards or detailed guides, otherwise, it is quite complex to use them, especially at the beginning."

What is our primary use case?

I mainly used AA to extract data from invoices from PDF files with multiple formats and to upload this data to a Data Lake, on a Windows machine.

Other projects involved extracting data from Excel and CSV files and then inserting them into custom applications, databases, and mainframes and finally sending recap emails to the user.

The Bots developed, according to the end user's needs and the type of process, were both attended and unattended. In both cases, the end-users were always satisfied with the functioning and performances of the Bots.

How has it helped my organization?

By automating the process with AA and using the verification station, it was possible to speed up the process and strengthen it, involving the process owner in the verification of the correctness of the data extracted.

It is becoming more and more normal for companies that a process is carried out partly or totally by a Bot, thus allowing humans to dedicate themselves to high value-added activities.

The speed-up and greater control over the quality of the processes have also led to savings in money and are increasing the happiness of the company's customers.

What is most valuable?

I consider the verification station very useful because it allows you to quickly check if the data extracted are correct or if you need to change the process. The process owner is also much happier because he is more involved in the implementation of the Bot and thus it is easier to develop the requirements.

During the test phases and during the review, it is possible to engage the process owner who almost enjoys verifying the correct functioning of the Bot, thanks also to the simple and attractive interface of the verification station.

What needs improvement?

You could improve the tools for reading CSV/Excel, also providing wizards or detailed guides, otherwise, it is quite complex to use them, especially at the beginning.

It would be useful to have an online wiki on each tool that can be used on AA with practical examples of use, with images and videos.

It would also be useful to increase the community and make public in a forum the problems solved by other developers through the support, so that we can use past experience to solve development problems without having to send emails to AA about a problem that may have already been solved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I use Automation Anywhere for five months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think the final product is quite stable. All the functionalities included in AA are extensively tested and thus do not present strange errors after the Bot has been released into production. AA also handles the release of new versions of the IDE very well, guaranteeing the portability of the code with simple procedures.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a very scalable product, also thanks to some features included in the IDE.

How are customer service and technical support?

So far, I have not used customer service very much.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I currently use both Automation Anywhere and UiPath. Depending on what you need to automate, one may perform better than the other.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite long and full of different phases. It would take only one official AA installation guide with the most detailed step-by-step description and one image per step, without the need to consult more than one guide.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented through a vendor team and their level of expertise is medium-high.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also evaluated UiPath.

What other advice do I have?

It is a tool that allows you to have excellent performance but some features are not intuitive to use.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

The IQ Bot is the most valuable feature and a significant market differentiator
Pros and Cons
  • "The setup is straightforward. Automation Anywhere provides customer success managers to help with the setup."
  • "We would like Automation Anywhere to have a way to run a capacity check on machines and show us what is available."

What is most valuable?

The IQ Bot is the most valuable feature and a significant market differentiator.

What needs improvement?

While you don't a coding skill set as a business user, you do need to have some knowledge before using the product.

We would like Automation Anywhere to have a way to run a capacity check on machines and show us what is available.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for a year now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In the past, the solution has been unreliable. Now, it has become reliable in terms of the issues that we are seeing. Now, it is stable with no major issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability has been a pain point. The scalability is there, but there are ongoing operational issues with it.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support needs to do a better job of triaging tickets and updating critical people at companies.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward. Automation Anywhere provides customer success managers to help with the setup.

What about the implementation team?

I am an RPA consultant who does deployments.

What other advice do I have?

Whatever you automate, it is important to identify what you want to do after your journey.

Attended automation is okay.

It is easy to use and very scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to use and very scalable."
  • "It needs stability improvements. Sometimes, it becomes unstable."

What is our primary use case?

We have soft and hard tasks that we have automated.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to use and very scalable.

What needs improvement?

The bot processing is a bit slow.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for the past two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It needs stability improvements. Sometimes, it becomes unstable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We did not use an integrator.

What was our ROI?

Automation Anywhere has save us more than $40,000 in the past year.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our licensing costs are setup on an annual basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated a couple of vendors. Another vendor that we evaluated was Blue Prism.

Automation Anywhere is very simple compared to the other professional robotic automation process tools.

What other advice do I have?

Give the product a try, you will definitely love it.

While it is easy to use, it is all about how you design the bots.

We still haven't used most of the product's capabilities.

From a developer standpoint, the tool is very strong, but they are looking forward to code versioning coming out
Pros and Cons
  • "The Control Room for the bots and its ability to connect bots with APIs are the most valuable features."
  • "I would like to see GitHub or GitLab integration in the next version."

What is our primary use case?

We automate bots for our clients. We identify processes that our client need to automate. If we see that Automation Anywhere is the best platform for them, then we recommend it, and help them to implement some bots.

I work with South American clients.

What is most valuable?

The Control Room for the bots and its ability to connect bots with APIs are the most valuable features.

From my developer's point of view, the tool is pretty strong. Our developers are happy with the features that Automation Anywhere has.

What needs improvement?

Our developers are looking forward to code versioning.

I would like to see GitHub or GitLab integration in the next version.

It would be nice to have more screen scraping features for legacy systems. This needs improvement, because it doesn't work very well at the moment.

I would also like to see cloud capabilities, but they announced that is coming.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It took one to one and a years to scale to our current number of bots.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have seen that the South American support is not as good as it should be. I would recommend them offering onsite support after the initial support.

They offer onsite support at the beginning, and this works well. Once this team leaves, the client is not enabled to work with the product. During the second and third stages of the setup, the client then has to hire a partner to help them resolve issues and put things into production.

We don't feel Automation Anywhere was there for our clients after the initial setup.

What was our ROI?

We measure ROI by saved time, FTEs reduced, and number of errors reduced.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Once the license is sold, the support could improve.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The main players in the market do pretty much the same thing.

What other advice do I have?

Don't choose the platform first. Identify what you are trying to solve. Look out for the type of support that you will have in your region (local support). Assess the local support.

The developers have to love it, or they are not going to use it.

For some legacy systems, integration with other solutions is not as easy as it sounds. For standard integrations with other solutions, Automation Anywhere is alright.

I haven't used the cognitive document processing features.

We use it to automate IT processes and it has good scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "The scalability is good."
  • "We would like it to be more user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We use it to automate IT processes.

What needs improvement?

We would like it to be more user-friendly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good.

It took us a year and a half to scale from our pilot to the current number of bots that we have.

What was our ROI?

We measure ROI by number of man-hours saved.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at Blue Prism.

What other advice do I have?

Start small. Pilot it for a couple of processes.

Attended automation is great, but unattended automation is a bit of a struggle
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is its Excel integration."
  • "It does not easily integrate with customized solutions."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is process automation. We have automated our reconciliation process.

So far, it has performed okay.

How has it helped my organization?

We have automated our processes.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is its Excel integration.

We have business users who are developing bots using this solution.

What needs improvement?

It does not easily integrate with customized solutions.

I would like to see more Excel functionality, especially around the copy and paste functions. A lot of our business users utilize the copy/paste special values. We are currently not getting any formatting, etc. It is just a raw data set. To fix this, there are some workarounds that Automation Anywhere needs to build into the app. This would make it a lot easier for us.

Automation Anywhere should better vet their partners and resellers for their packs.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is pretty stable. Once the upgrades were put in for the latest release, it has been running pretty smoothly in our environment. The key things that Automation Anywhere needs to address is the changes which are in the Microsoft environment going forward and how they are going to address not having Explorer there.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is pretty easy. It is pretty intuitive for any IT person to scale their environment.

How are customer service and technical support?

Automation Anywhere technical support has been great. Some of their partner support is less than to be desired.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use a previous solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. There was no need for a reseller or partner to do anything, if they were just going to click the "Next" button.

From pilot to production, we did a three bot pilot, but we did not put those bots into production. We pretty much cut down that environment and started everything back up from scratch.

Now, we have those three bots out in production. They are programmed to be easier and more affordable. Then, we have the rest of our processes that we have identified to take to production for automation that seem pretty easy for the next stage.

What about the implementation team?

We purchased a partner pack. I would not recommend it. The Automation Anywhere support is far superior.

What was our ROI?

With the bots that we have in production, we have two of them that are time savers. We have a third bot which takes longer being automated than it did with the human process.

At the moment, it is about even time. We are not using it as a money saver.

What other advice do I have?

Start slow. Ensure you have enough processes in the pipeline to keep moving forward. There will be a hurdle to get over, and once you get over that hurdle (learning curve), it will be a lot easier going down that slope.

Attended automation is great. Unattended automation is a bit of a struggle.

Good features with a free version on offer and good reliability
Pros and Cons
  • "There are quite a few very strong features available to users."
  • "The solution should have a more robust forum to help users navigate the solution, learn about it, and get help when they need it."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for business process automation. We use it to help us with background processes.

What is most valuable?

It's a very stable solution.

We have found the solution to be very scalable.

The solution, in particular, is simple to set up.

There are quite a few very strong features available to users.

What needs improvement?

I haven't really used it long enough to critique too heavily. I need some more time to do a deep dive into its functionality, which I haven't done yet.

The solution should have a more robust forum to help users navigate the solution, learn about it, and get help when they need it.

It should have a better marketplace where you can gather various workflows, et cetera. It would be an ideal place to find pre-built workflows, for example.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for maybe one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is quite good. It's reliable and offers good performance There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's quite scalable. We have many users on the solution.

How are customer service and support?

I'm not sure if I have ever actually contacted technical support. I can't recall dealing with them directly, and therefore would not be able to comment on their services.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also familiar with UiPath.

How was the initial setup?

In general, when you set up the cloud solution, it's very, very easy. It's not overly complex. The on-premises version does take a bit more work. It's a bit more complex. That said, it's not too hard to handle either.

The deployment is pretty fast. You're looking at maybe a 15-minute setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a community version, which is free. they also have a yearly paid license.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution to other users and companies.

Overall, I would give it a rating of eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
