A good, customizable solution that helps save time and handle repetitive tasks but deployment time should be reduced

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use is for automation of data management and repetitive tasks.

How has it helped my organization?

We used to have a much more labor-intensive means of data management and cleansing which lacked real automation. We would have to manually massage the data in several steps with import and export of data to and from Excel which was not efficient. We have mostly eliminated the unreliable transfer of data via Excel and the potential for human error is greatly reduced by automated processes.

What is most valuable?

We are using all of the features and all are important and valuable but the automation and flexibility are the things which make the product work as a solution for us. As we can customize the functionality to what we need it makes us more efficient.

What needs improvement?

They might add some features that competing products already have and do something to help reduce deployment time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We occasionally have a problem with stability but it may have more to do with what we don't know about the program. I think that it is generally a stable solution. When we have stability issues we check logs to identify the problems and resolve them. These are mostly performance issues. Once it is solved we don't have that stability issue any longer.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think the scalability of the solution is very good. We don't have any problems enhancing what we do except for the time in programming and troubleshooting.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is really good actually. When I submit a ticket, within two or three hours I have an answer. So far when I apply the solutions they have worked, so it seems good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using another solution which included manually checking data and Excel and it was apparent we were taking too much time with things that could be automated. When we started using Automation Anywhere we took baby steps to begin to make a difference but it saves time for us and will continue to save more.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is complex because there is a lot of customization. The availability of the deployment was not really fast because of the amount of work we had to do. It is not so difficult but it is time-consuming. It might be an area where the product can improve.

What about the implementation team?

We are doing our own implementations and upgrades, so we are managing it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

After realizing we needed a better solution than what we were doing, we did evaluate other options like Blue Prism. It is not so much that either solution seemed worse more than they are different. We went with Automation Anywhere because it seemed to have more features which we really needed and were looking for.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale of one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would give this product a seven. Everything has room for improvement but also I think the product could be a little easier to deploy.

Onboarding process helped us understand how to create a center of excellence, but stability needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "Our onboarding process was pretty good. We got access to all software that we needed to learn and utilize. The Automation Anywhere University is really good. In our business, the person who was onboarding us helped us to understand how to create a center of excellence and what verticals we needed to improve. So, the support was there. We are gradually becoming a center of excellence ourselves."
  • "We have found that the passwords are not very stable in terms of their accuracy. We could only get 70 percent accuracy in these cases. Our clients require more accurate results. We are working toward this."

What is our primary use case?

We are a research-based company using cognitive automation.

Our use cases are:

  1. Security.
  2. Card protection and banking.
  3. Traffic management.

All these applications require cognitive automation.

We are here to explore how Automation Anywhere supports cognitive automation.

How has it helped my organization?

One of our security applications requires a lot of newer features in terms of recognizing a lot of objects that affect security, whether we are talking about the security of a building or of an enterprise. Integration automation is now building on growth, e.g., I can upload Microsoft and Azure integrations. This will help us in order to scale up the machine learning aspect, which is required in the applications which we are developing.

What is most valuable?

The tool is developing well and has become more web-based. We require a web-based tool approach because of our clients whom we expect will utilize web-based applications. We see Automation Anywhere is moving into a web-based tool application development. This will help us reach out to our clients.

What needs improvement?

While I am happy with the stability, it could use improvement.

We have found that the passwords are not very stable in terms of their accuracy. We could only get 70 percent accuracy in these cases. Our clients require more accurate results. We are working toward this.

We are looking into other applications and how they can be integrated, e.g., Google Analytics and Azure AI. Instead of developing from scratch within Automation Anywhere, we want to bring out these advanced capabilities from other platforms and integrate them into our platform requirements.

Integration with a lot of existing platforms is going to be a game changer. We already see Automation Anywhere tied up with SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, and Microsoft. We expect that it will be tied up Google Cloud going forward. These type of improvements will increase the adoption rate of the tool and we can have a lot more use cases because a lot of companies they have already invested in ERP.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are good tools which are in the development stage. Recently, there was an issue of stability. We see that there has been a lot of effort from Automation Anywhere experts and R&D, where they have been trying to stabilize every version they are bringing out. There is room for improvement as Automation Anywhere works to stabilize the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The clients whom we are approaching and want to get onboard have a huge application requirement. So, we are requiring that these applications are well suited for the Automation Anywhere product. We feel that there is a lack of trained professionals in the market. Therefore, we have a branch where we can train people, so they can scale up into our application's deployment.

How are customer service and technical support?

They help support our large number of clients. So far, they have been okay. Going forward, we will require a lot more support from Automation Anywhere.

How was the initial setup?

Our onboarding process was pretty good. We got access to all software that we needed to learn and utilize. The Automation Anywhere University is really good. In our business, the person who was onboarding us helped us to understand how to create a center of excellence and what verticals we needed to improve. So, the support was there. We are gradually becoming a center of excellence ourselves.

What about the implementation team?

We have in-house experts who are learning the solution then deploying it. We are looking for partners to deploy the tool for new projects as we learn how to better deploy it.

What was our ROI?

Our clients are seeing an economic downturn. In any economic downturn, margins are a great challenge. As a company, we can bring out profitability by automating a lot of processes on our clients' side. We always recommend to our clients is they can save as much as 25 percent of their CAPEX in the first year, then by second year, they should be able to save up to 50 percent of their OPEX. This can bring them huge profitability.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

UiPath, Blue Prism, and Automation Anywhere were our three focus areas. We started first with Automation Anywhere. We will definitely explore the other vendors as well, but It is very tough to become an expert of all three platforms.

I happened to go through the available documents on Automation Anywhere's website. I found there is a lot of effort from the company to create an ecosystem of experts. They want a lot of experts to get trained. There is a lot of support on the certification side. So, we thought that it was a good company to start with.

What other advice do I have?

Have a very robust feasibility check of what you want to do. It is very important that you understand your requirements:

  • Why do you require RPA?
  • What will be the return of the investment?
  • What will be the time consumption?
  • Do you need to outsource the entire RPA or develop in-house expertise?

Understand the tool better, then the deployment becomes easier.

The tool is good. I feel that there is a lot of scope for improvement. We have found there is already an R&D effort to build up Automation Anywhere. There are new tools which will soon be integrated into the present setup. It becomes better at every stage.

You don't need hardcore development skills to get started with it
Pros and Cons
  • "The ease of use is the most valuable feature. It's very easy to use, so to get started, you don't really need hardcore development skills."
  • "One of the things that the product should have is to add more advanced level developer capabilities into the platform. I know it is easy for business, non-technical people. However, for the developers, there should be some more features within the product so they can build advanced level use cases much faster."

What is our primary use case?

We have several back office use cases right now that we are working on. Some of them are workforce management, IT provisioning, and deprovisioning.

How has it helped my organization?

I would give you an example of a most recent process which we have: one of the largest accounts for workforce management. There were about three to four people who were manually updating data into a system, then we replaced that process or augmented that with a bot. That bot now reaches data and enters it on behalf of users, which gives significant hours back to the business. So, those people can work on some other high value task.

What is most valuable?

The ease of use is the most valuable feature. It's very easy to use, so to get started, you don't really need hardcore development skills. However, over a period of time, when you have a complex use case, then you really need to improve your end user development skills.

What needs improvement?

One of the things that the product should have is to add more advanced level developer capabilities into the platform. I know it is easy for business, non-technical people. However, for the developers, there should be some more features within the product so they can build advanced level use cases much faster.

What other advice do I have?

To be honest, I would rate it about an eight (out of ten). I would not give two points because there is still room for improvement for some of those real use cases that we are working with.

I'm very optimistic about future releases of the product.

Reduces effort in Excel tasks that were previously done manually
Pros and Cons
  • "We have a bot running on a computer that is doing manual tasks that we used to do."
  • "It would be better to make it more user-friendly so that individuals with no experience can pick it up pretty quickly."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use is a bot to look up accounts from Excel to the source system and entering it back into Excel.

How has it helped my organization?

We have a bot running on a computer that is doing manual tasks that we used to do. There is an initial setup time but pays off quickly.

What is most valuable?

I haven't done anything fancy yet, but the basics work for me for now.

What needs improvement?

It would be better to make it more user-friendly so that individuals with no experience can pick it up pretty quickly.

Reasonably-priced, easy to use and maintain, but it needs to be more developer-friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "Excel automation is especially helpful because a lot of small companies are still using Excel as their data storage."
  • "The assign value function is not there in the A2019 Community edition, which makes it hard for a developer to manipulate the data."

What is our primary use case?

I start using automation anywhere for my first project to automate HR process. For HR, one of my customers uses a lot of manual processes in their company. They manually update reports in Excel and have a lot of use cases that trigger emails to staff.  Examples of emails are applications for training or requests to top management for approval.

By using Automation Anywhere, we can help our customer manage their data by connecting the Bot to the database and automate emails that are sent between staff and the top management.

How has it helped my organization?

When implementing RPA with AA for an organization, we can figure out the spaghetti processes and align the business process so that they become linear. This is possible because RPA uses rule-based automation. Ultimately, it means that the organization will be more structured.

Having AA also helps to improve time-savings, as it is able to complete the whole process faster. The accuracy of the data posted in the system also increases.

In terms of cost, AA reduces the cost of hiring workers because the number of workers can be fixed after implementing RPA.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are object cloning, image recognition, assignment value, and automation for databases, OCR, PDF, Excel, and email.

Excel automation is especially helpful because a lot of small companies are still using Excel as their data storage.

Database automation is really important for executing report queries.

PDF automation is useful because a lot of companies still use PDFs as fillable forms. To automate a PDF, it uses the OCR function to extract data, from either a soft copy or handwritten-scan form.

Last but not least, the assignment value command is really needed to help with the manipulation of variable datatypes. Without this, it is quite hard to manipulate the data.

What needs improvement?

The assign value function is not there in the A2019 Community edition, which makes it hard for a developer to manipulate the data. For example, using a data table record, when I want to assign a value to a record variable, I am not able to assign it properly. I am only able to define a hardcoded value inside that variable, whereas the requirement is to put the value inside that variable dynamically using another variable.

In the next release, I am hoping to have a feature where the developer can use a programming method like ".Double/.toString" to make programming faster. As it is now, one has to pull commands one by one for assignment.

Next, I am hoping that AA can have an explanation and directions for each command and how it is to be used by developers. For example, with the OCR function, it would be helpful to know what data is compulsory for the developer to enter, and what data is optional. By having guide like this, it would be more developer-friendly. This would be better for beginners who are using AA for the first time.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Automation Anywhere for less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

the stability of the studio is ok and some features is easy to use. but sometimes i feel to automate excel is quite hard and developer need to make many repetitive steps just to insert dynamic data into each cell in excel.Hopes in version 11.3 will have read range and write range function instead need to loop many times and set the cell one by one.btw, i like dictionary data type and impress with AA because no need to read file and just put the path it can already work. but i hope for dictionary variable data type also can support .xlsx file to save as dictionary and able to add dictionary key and value that outside from the file by able to add keypair value by assigning them  as temporary value during process.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Quickly scale to thousands of bots in the front and back office, no matter the type—attended, unattended, or intelligent automation.

The modern microservices architecture enables the platform to scale both vertically and horizontally, delivering fast ROI.

How are customer service and technical support?

We do not yet have experience with customer support. We have been using AA for less than one year.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In another company, I previously used a different RPA solution. I have switched because I have changed companies, to one that is using AA.

How was the initial setup?

To install the application is easy, but you need to prepare a few accounts during the initial setup. These include a Creator account for developers, a Bot Runner, a server, and a database.

What about the implementation team?

We deployed with the assistance of a vendor team and we are satisfied.

What was our ROI?

Some of the factors that contribute to ROI are the low cost, ease of maintenance, and automatic updates.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is a comprehensive automation offering with a scalable architecture and flexible pricing models. This keeps the RPA TCO low and you can automate with confidence.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated UiPath before choosing Automation Anywhere.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a great tool because it's easy to maintain and it can reduce hiring costs, leading to reduced overall costs in the future.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Increased the productivity of the current processes
    Pros and Cons
    • "With the help of Bot, it has increased the productivity of the current process and we do not need to spend more time on error resolution and rectification."
    • "Many clients use the Citrix environment but AA has very low functionality to automate a Citrix environment."

What is our primary use case?

We have so many use cases. One of them is in finance. We have a finance portal where the team updates the billing records. Based on the Excel input, the file bot creates entries in different modules based on conditions. One error bot maintains a log. It takes value input dynamically and the tool is very flexible so in case of any changes in the future, the developer or user doesn't have to change the code. They can do it with the help of configurable files. At the end of the process, the bot sends an intimation mail to the end-user with the bot execution status.

How has it helped my organization?

With the help of Bot, it has increased the productivity of the current process and we do not need to spend more time on error resolution and rectification.

While doing processes manually, the user has to manually open all the Excel files and needs to check each and every row one by one to check a few validations and conditions. For that, the user has to filter all the unique records that were very time-consuming. In case of invalid records, the user has to manually update a few fields into that. Now, with the help of Automation Anywhere Bot it's being handle automatically, and work that would take one week is now being completed within an hour.

    What is most valuable?

There are many valuable features available but the Automation Anywhere learning portal has very good learning materials and videos in place which is very user-friendly and can be learned easily.

From a Commands perspective, below are some most valuable features:

    1. Metabot (User can develop the code offline just after capturing the screen, easy to drag and drop commands, reusable, and easy to use).

    2. Object cloning (helpful to capture most of the controls with its Object properties)

    3. Excel operations, Emails, Default Error handling features, Version control, etc...

    What needs improvement?

Many clients use the Citrix environment but AA has very low functionality to automate a Citrix environment.

I would like to see improvement in advance Excel commands like lookups, Pivots, etc.

After changing the name of the ATMX file, the developer has to remap all the variables again manually at all place and it does not auto handle the renaming of ATMX or variable. In older version 10 it worked fine but from version 11 due to enhancement, this function does not work and faces issues during the development.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AA for the last three years.

How are customer service and technical support?

Automation Anywhere is the best in terms of customer service/technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used Ui Path, Python with Selenium. Automation Anywhere provides effective training videos and material which helps users to understand the tool easily and we can easily drag and drop commands to automate with a user-friendly user interface. Automation Anywhere also has better customer service support.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy with the help of Automation Anywhere team support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

They're very flexible around pricing and licensing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have evaluated Blue Prism, Ui Path, and Workfusion.

What other advice do I have?

Within just a few years Automation Anywhere has different versions and closing their support to the older version soon. Migration of each bot to a new one becomes a bit difficult for clients.

Automation Anywhere should have a single and stable version which can be easily accessible and easily migrate the processes.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
