Helps the application team improve the user experience and reduce the impact of any problems
We used Dynatrace, which comes with full-stack observability. Full-stack observability has evolved to the point where, competitively, you can ask how AppDynamics and Dynatrace compare. Dynatrace takes a slight lead here. It can do dynamic baselining and anomaly detection. It gives a little more transactional insights and is more comprehensive. There's a slight difference, but not a major impact, in terms of database monitoring on both tools. They are both competitive products. One way they try to compete is in terms of APIs, but the only difference I see is that AppDynamics has a slight advantage in one area. We don't have multiple agents, we go with the concept of one agent. Second, Dynatrace leads in observability, integrating with other on-premises and cloud systems. They are both competitive enough in the same pricing range. They are not so different, they are both in the same range. If you go and negotiate, they are the same.

Saves time, is relatively cheap, and helps find errors
It's basically like a cloud stack.  You can trace your entire HTTP request. Once you have submitted any request, it will be addressed as a 500 Error or 401 Error, or if there is any exception happening when this request, and how much time will take. X-Ray can trace all the information about the…

Pros

"The proactive monitoring from AppDynamics definitely helps."
"I have found some of the valuable features of AppDynamics Database Monitoring to be once the installation is complete, you are able to quickly start receiving metrics, which is great. The user interface is also very user-friendly."
"The most valuable features of AppDynamics Database Monitoring are you can configure the performance and see in real-time what is exactly happening with the applications. Additionally, the dashboards are good."
"In my experience, it's easy to use. There's nothing complex to learn or fear. You can quickly adapt to it without the need for extensive training."
"AppDynamics is a good tool that offers excellent out-of-the-box dashboards and application topology."
"The product's initial setup phase is easy since a separate machine is required, and it is not directly installed on a database as it is a type of proxy."
"Data monitoring is the most valuable feature."
"What I found valuable in AppDynamics Database Monitoring is good technical support. I also like that it's scalable and stable."
"AWS X-RAY identifies bottlenecks in terms of stability and performance and how long certain data lives in terms of response time and duration."
"The error analysis capabilities of X-Ray are really good."
"The most important one is compliance. We're able to achieve our regulatory levels. We're able to achieve the security level that we need for the federal government."
"The most promising feature of AWS X-Ray is that you can debug the issues through the proper logs. You can also get an analysis out of the logs for some use cases, though I have yet to try all the features of AWS X-Ray."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"The solution has made it easier for us to trace the problems that we have with our requests and to monitor the timing of each step in each request we do in our endpoints."
"AWS X-Ray is a strong solution and has a smooth integration process."
"The most beneficial feature is that it shows a dashboard for performance intervals, which reveals latencies."

Cons

"The solution needs to support IBM products."
"Stability-wise, we experienced some performance issues when upgrading from 4.4 to 4.5."
"The solution could improve the server size for AppDynamics to include middleware products, which is doesn't yet cover. If they add middleware for sophisticated sites, AppDynamics would be the global choice."
"An improvement could be if the monitoring was able to be summarized into something more clear and simple for people who don't have the technical skills on the database side."
"The product's drawback is the licensing pricing. It could be better."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring would be a better product if it could support new technology, such as cloud technology. Even Dynatrace lacks support for newer technologies."
"The major concern lies with reports, specifically their configurability. It's like, if I want to combine multiple reports and generate them all at once, that's not possible. Even though there's a setup for generating 25 reports, I wanted to group them all and generate them in one go, which isn't currently feasible. I have to manually run each report and set the time for it."
"The application end of AppDynamics Database Monitoring needs to improve by checking which applications consume licenses."
"Like most Amazon products, the user interface, configuration, and tuning aren't the easiest. That's the biggest reason why people tend to go to products like TerraForm and Terragrunt. We use TerraForm and Terragrunt. So, for setting things up and interacting with X-Ray, it's definitely the user interface that can be better."
"The user interface is sometimes kind of confusing to understand. It's not very user-friendly."
"They can improve how traces are sent to other providers."
"It should have X-Ray SDKs for different languages like Node.js, Python, or Java."
"I do not have any notes in terms of improvements."
"What needs to be better in AWS X-Ray is the log filtering. Predefined filters could be helpful because the power of analytics comes from how you can filter the data. I also want to see more KPIs from AWS X-Ray."
"A significant downside is that it is very expensive."
"If you have a small team, it's probably overkill."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
"The license for AppDynamics is procured by our customers."
"We have a license-based solution. That means you need a license for each server you monitor."
"We have purchased a few licenses for AppDynamics Database Monitoring and the price is high."
"The licensing scheme is very complex. They need to make it easier."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring is expensive. I rate it a seven to eight out of ten."
"We buy the platform's yearly subscription."
"I give the price a five out of ten."
"The solution is a bit expensive."
"As you develop a relationship with Amazon, your pricing gets lower. You get credits for the amount of the system you use, and then if you're the government, you can get government pricing. For commercial users, there's a hump when you go from small to medium to big enterprise. Small businesses can live pretty easily off the free tier in a lot of cases, but when you go from a medium to a big enterprise, it becomes more expensive on a per-user basis. I'd like to see that curve going in a different way where pricing can be driven down while people are trying to adopt the technology."
"The pricing for AWS X-Ray is a six out of ten."
