Centralized device management has transformed security and streamlined remote provisioning
One area where Microsoft Intune can improve is the user interface. Sometimes the portal feels a bit complex and not very intuitive, especially for new users, and it can take time to find specific settings. Another point is troubleshooting. While logs are available, the diagnostic policies and sync issues can still be time-consuming and not very straightforward. I also feel that reporting could be more detailed and customizable. The built-in reports are helpful, but for deeper insights, I often need to rely on additional tools. Overall, it is a strong solution, but improving usability and troubleshooting experience would make it even better. While Microsoft Intune works very well within the Microsoft ecosystem, the integration of some third-party tools could be smoother and require less customization. Support is another area that could improve, as sometimes response times can be slow, and resolving complex issues may take longer than expected. In terms of features, I think more advanced automation and built-in remediation options would be helpful since common issues can be fixed automatically without manual intervention.

I have utilized the HDX protocol for compression and audio-video capabilities. When users need to conduct meetings with customers or colleagues, they can use Teams solutions and open a bridge where video and audio are encapsulated within the ICA protocol, which is protected by SSL and certificates for security. This provides secure communication at good quality through the HDX protocol. HDX protocol has improved application performance as it is specifically designed for multimedia applications. If processing audio or video files, such as in telecom where discussions are recorded and then prepared as video or audio, this does not consume excessive bandwidth during the operation compared to a normal remote desktop connection provided by Microsoft. Everything is compressed and provides sufficient bandwidth for multiple people to perform similar tasks without interruption or session disconnection. All multimedia-related activities, such as playing content on YouTube, deliver a better experience with this protocol overall. I use multi-factor authentication for opening sessions to the data center where users access their machines or software. Multi-factor authentication has helped secure applications because users typically have two-way authentication software on their phones. They use a password first and then authenticate themselves through their mobile application to grant access to resources. This approach is effective because if a hacker attacks a user, they need more than just the password and username. They must also possess the device that provides authentication. The device typically has facial recognition, a password, and provides better security overall.

Able to boot into safe mode or standard mode remotely and reliable performance
I've only had to deal with it once. Because of the custom package we have, a white-label package, I can only think of one issue maybe six or seven years ago. I don't even remember what it was. At that time, I think they were pretty responsive. Very few companies offer phone support anymore; everyone's gone the way of email responses. I'm having that problem with CorelDRAW right now, and I'm waiting three weeks for a technician. So it's a good thing it's not important. Are the customer service and support good? For me, they're as good as anybody else, maybe not as good as some companies, but probably better than most. We deal with HP, IBM, HCL. Some companies only offer email support, and you have to wait for a response. I'm trying to remember the last time I interacted with Splashtop support. They do give you an answer. On a scale of one to ten, they're nine plus. You rarely have to use them, but I'm satisfied when you do.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The pricing for Microsoft Intune is reasonable and our clients are satisfied."
"Its security is most valuable. It gives us a way to secure devices, not only those that are steady. We do have a few tablets and other devices, and it is a way for us to secure these devices and manage them. We know they're out there and what's their status. We can manage their life cycle and verify that they're updated properly."
"It saves time, money, and resources; when there was a local liaison, managing everything was a significant challenge, but with Microsoft Intune, it has become much easier—around 60% to 70% easier—and in terms of reliability and ease of use, it excels."
"I like that we can implement conditional access."
"The biggest thing for us is enforcing logins only from devices that are managed by Intune."
"I can reach devices or computers over the internet. I don't need to worry about the network connectivity between the offices. I can manage any device. That is the most important part."
"What I have found most useful in Microsoft Intune is creating an environment where customers or clients need someone to work immediately with an out-of-box experience."
"Intune reduces the load on our on-prem Active Directory by having everything go to one Intune panel, so we can configure group policies, deploy applications, and manage devices, and it has really improved our operations."
"And our overall IT costs (hardware, software, utilities, etc.) dropped 44 percent over what we were spending in 2008 and certainly over our trajectory."
"Citrix is a pricey product, but it is the best product for large corporate companies that want to squeeze to the last buck the life of their existing computers."
"The scalability of Citrix Workspace is exceptional."
"The tech support is fast, knowledgeable, and customer-friendly."
"It's amazing that if someone has a sick child, they can still work."
"It makes it easy for us to give storage, memory, RAM, or processor resources without anything affecting their day-to-day activity."
"At this moment, 95 percent of our employees are using Citrix as the only tool to do their job."
"XenDesktop 5 is lightyears ahead of XenDesktop 4."
"The tool's most valuable features are pricing and easy management."
"The ability to use mobile devices is helpful because we can support our clients from anywhere."
"Splashtop Remote Support is my main product, and I use it daily. Its main function is to control systems, which is essential remotely. Additionally, it has useful features such as chat functionality, file transfer, and the ability to add notes with information about a computer or server. Despite being simple software, it is very useful and valuable."
"With the extended license, it's easy to be remote."
"The file transfers work well, the remote support and hosted solution work well."
"The SOS Support is a most valuable feature, as we have remote access from our phone, there is no need to install the software, and we can do it on the cloud."
"The solution is very fast."
"In contrast, Splashtop is a really good product and it's not so expensive."

Cons

"Intune should improve its software inventory to provide better metering of which software is used throughout the company. This is especially needed for reporting third-party software solutions."
"The only issues I have had with Microsoft Intune were with applications where if they are not an MSI file, I cannot really upload it as an application."
"It would be beneficial to have a more straightforward understanding of Intune's capabilities, presented in a simplified manner."
"Installing software in Microsoft Intune can be challenging if it is not already prepackaged."
"Each feature has a separate license, making logistics and cost management difficult if not strategically bundled together."
"The main differences between Intune and other products are, like I mentioned, in terms of the Mac. If the customers are majorly moving and adopting Mac laptops while they are using the Intune, they are leaving for other platforms, like Workspace ONE and vMOX."
"Once it's configured it is unobtrusive, but it does take some hands-on to configure and deploy it properly."
"It should be easier to define policies and comply with those policies."
"There are many latency and slowness issues, which are things looked after by Citrix."
"There have been many issues with stability."
"The only thing we have found to be detrimental is when we have tried to find training."
"Over the years Citrix has increased the pace in which new versions are released, and often the product has not gone through thorough enough testing so the consultants are left very challenged trying to resolve bugs, and obtaining post-release fixes from the Vendor (Citrix)."
"The initial setup of Citrix Workspace is a bit of a complex process, which should be made easier in the future."
"For us, pricing is the most important feature to improve."
"When the network is stable the experience is positive, but when there is some fluctuation of the network speed, Citrix can freeze the screen or mouse at that moment, and this is not good for users."
"There is room for slight improvement in performance optimization and interface refinement."
"Splashtop Remote Support needs to improve customization."
"The integration features could be better."
"The packages that Splashtop has tend to be a little bit confusing and should be simplified."
"I'm not sure if I can recommend the solution as I'm not sure if it's a fit for me."
"The integration features could be better."
"The solution should add more options and tools for shortcuts, administration, etc."
"The packages that Splashtop has, tend to be a little bit confusing and should be simplified."
"The solution should be able to make an inventory of computers automatically."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a part of Microsoft 365 and E5 licenses. Microsoft's strategy of making every feature in Microsoft Intune paid needs optimization. Remote control is one of the basic features, not a luxury feature, yet we must pay for it. I"
"The price is reasonable, but they should lower it a bit to make it more competitive. It's cheaper than AirWatch and other products, but I still feel like Microsoft can make a base version or with Exchange online or a la carte only Intune version which will be useful. A customer who doesn't want to go full-fledged E3 or E5 can take out or consume an Intune solution only for their purpose, and we want to target that customer."
"We use Defender ATP and E5 licenses."
"With one user base license, we can use Intune for up to five devices. However, with Soti MobiControl, each license is tied to a single device, meaning one license is dedicated to one device only."
"Microsoft Intune is reasonably priced for large organizations that already have Microsoft Enterprise licenses, but it is less affordable for smaller businesses."
"Our enterprise agreement includes Microsoft Intune at no additional cost."
"Our Office 365 Business Premium license, including Office 365 and Intune Management, offers excellent value."
"In terms of the product price and licensing costs, my company finds the product to be reasonably priced."
"The licenses are affordable, but the support is a bit expensive, though worth the value."
"It's costly in the market. But it is not expensive for the company. For the company, it's relatively inexpensive because the core of the work is compensated with the price."
"As for the cost, it is neither cheap nor expensive. Personally, I find it quite expensive, especially if you want to add more features. The security features we use include App Protect and Endpoint Protection."
"If you look at cost, then you must look at the number of users that you are covering. If you are only using it for some users, then it is very expensive. However, if you have a massive amount of users, then it begins to be interesting to use Citrix. Because once you are managing thousands of servers with one guy, your maintenance costs decrease per user."
"The solution is affordable."
"The Citrix licensing scheme is really straightforward and simple. It doesn't have hidden costs. You get what you pay for. It is easy to understand what is on the product, so it's simple to get a clear idea of how much it costs. Licensing is not an issue."
"It is a bit costly, but enterprise class features come with a cost."
"Based not only on the cost of Citrix, but additional costs like firewalls, IPS, and other solutions, the total cost of switching users from using normal laptops with VPNs to connection via Citrix were so huge that the CEO of our company decided to postpone the deployment process."
"The price of the solution is mid-ranged, although it is more cost effective than that of TeamViewer."
"The licensing fees are less than $400 per year."
"Splashtop Remote Support is not too expensive. It costs around 800 euros per year."
