Our security alerts have been reduced significantly due to the higher level of analysis we now receive
The biggest aspect for us is that they are able to conform to our environment and utilize our tools. That way, we still maintain ownership of all the data and access to the applications, and we never lose control of the ability to run the solution ourselves if we need to. They're also very flexible in terms of what they're willing to bring to the table as well as having their own solutions that they provide if you don't have anything that you're using yourself. In terms of threat intelligence, as we make recommendations and suggestions to them for modifications to the reports so that they work better in our environment, they're working on putting them into place. And they're giving us feedback on what they can and can't do, meaning they're being very transparent. Binary Defense has also been great, so far, with integrating all the different things that we're trying to put together. They're also even helping guide us regarding some other tools that we're looking to implement. And those tools will have additional integrations into our main SIEM platform that we're using. They definitely have the knowledge and the insight to accomplish an open XDR strategy for securing infrastructure. With some of their own agents and tools that they are able to deploy into the environment, they're able to determine what's happening and put into effect the kill chain at the earliest possible point to help protect the overall network.

Gives fast results, and makes life easy with proactive monitoring and remediation
I am not a CrowdStrike fanboy, but as an IT leader, they make my life easy. I like proactive monitoring and remediation, so I do not have to guess or run around. They are doing everything for me. Secondly, what sold the CEO on it was the insurance policy. After they do a clean slate, they are willing to issue an insurance policy for cybersecurity. They are doing something that nobody else does. Outside the technical piece, they are talking the talk and walking the walk of issuing your policy once they certify that you are fine. They issue a cybersecurity policy once they certify your environment has a clean bill of health and data protection. Their proactive monitoring has been the most effective in stopping cyber threats. There is only so much you can do when you are in the office. There are only so many tools that you can buy that can help you. You can say what you want, but all the tools for IT are more reactive. They are not proactive. Somebody has to be on the front line. I love their dashboards. It was more or less a paradigm shift in 2020, but now I am used to it. It was a paradigm shift because it went away from the norm.

Informs us of threats and offers clear recommendations for addressing them
It is extremely important to me that Covalence is backed by experts for constant monitoring of attacks and risks. Managing surveillance with Covalence is super easy. It is user-friendly to the point that even someone without extensive technical knowledge finds it straightforward to handle. It significantly helps our security team save time in various ways. We are spared from manual monitoring, and we no longer need to rely on other products that may not be as trustworthy. Covalence is replacing multiple cybersecurity solutions for us. We are in the process of phasing out some, including Arctic Wolf, as we find that Covalence meets our needs more effectively. Covalence informs me of threats and provides clear recommendations on how to address them. I find the recommendations to be wonderful, making it easy to address and hunt for the rest of the potential threats. My advice to new users is that Covalence is like our secret weapon in cybersecurity. It might be newer and not widely known yet, but I would strongly advise them not to overlook it – implementing it is a smart move. Overall, I would rate the solution as a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Binary Defense has a human service department that provides live monitoring for our systems."
"The customization has been the most valuable aspect and was really the reason we ended up selecting Binary Defense. They worked with us to provide exactly the level of support, features, response, and collaboration we needed."
"The biggest aspect for us is that they are able to conform to our environment and utilize our tools. That way, we still maintain ownership of all the data and access to the applications, and we never lose control of the ability to run the solution ourselves if we need to."
"Among the valuable features are the agent, continuous reporting, and dashboard. It has all the features we need and we haven't had to customize it, other than turning on certain features that we wanted."
"The best part about Binary Defense MDR is that it runs on everything, and they keep an eye on things 24/7."
"The most valuable feature is reviewing tickets and the notes added by technicians."
"The case interface is Binary Defense MDR's most valuable feature."
"Binary Defense's most valuable feature is the 24/7 monitoring and threat hunting. Their team checks the latest breaches and how they're done."
"The threat intelligence of CrowdStrike Falcon is the most valuable feature."
"It is very easy to manage the licenses centrally because these are cloud licenses. There is no need for manual data reports."
"What's most valuable about CrowdStrike Falcon Complete as an endpoint security solution is that it provides different features against malware outbreaks. The solution is also cloud-based so it offers flexibility in terms of managing it. It's also easy to deploy the agent and you can deploy it through CrowdStrike, your CloudStrike console, or you can take that agent out and you can use different solutions to deploy it through your group policy, your SSCM, or any asset management tool."
"Its machine learning and AI features are good."
"Technical support is helpful."
"The AI and the group knowledge base that they get from having multiple clients in the cloud is very useful to us."
"It is a very good solution. It can provide detection and response in an extensive way, and for an endpoint, it can integrate the information that comes from the servers."
"The endpoint detection and response is very valuable."
"What I like the most about Field Effect Covalence is the ease of deployment, the fact that it's cost-effective to roll out, and it is reasonable."
"I like how comprehensive Field Effect Covalence is."
"There are user notifications about our cloud solutions and access, meaning authentication and possible breaches. Overall, the notifications and alerts are valuable. There are also new features like the DNS protection, which is quite good."
"The most valuable aspect of Field Effect Covalence is its ability to continuously monitor for and identify potential threats."
"The AROs have been incredibly helpful."
"Covalence's cloud protection element has been excellent. A lot of organizations are using 365. It's hard to find a secure solution for protecting accounts. We've gone down the path of trying to utilize other security solutions for that particular area. We've been disappointed and always come back to trying to implement Covalence when we can so we know people are safe."
"I get alerts if there's malicious activity or restrictions, should they any suspicious activity emerge."
"The most valuable features are AROs, which provide timely notifications for out-of-compliance or out-of-specification detections."

Cons

"I would like to see more frequent check-ins with our security status."
"The most significant area for improvement is in support for non-English speakers; we're a global organization, so many of our users are not English speakers, which can make interacting with them a challenge. There's no Chinese language support, so we must rely on what we can do with the internet. We don't expect Binary Defense to build a language staff, but details can get lost in translation when we assume the whole world speaks English."
"I would like to get more reports from Binary Defense about what they're blocking."
"It's sometimes difficult to know when to engage Binary Defense or TrustedSec, their sister company. TrustedSec is more focused on offensive security, as opposed to the defensive security that the MDR solution provides. It would be awesome if there were a better bridge between that relationship for when we need to get more proactive services or when we need to do a penetration test."
"I want the ability to push agent updates to specific machines. We can quarantine them, but we can't push them out to a machine that isn't on the network. The updates are automatically pushed to the machines on the network, but employees may not have their laptops on or connected to the network, so sometimes we'd like to force those updates manually."
"The current reporting system could benefit from improvement."
"We found a couple of bugs in the user interface."
"I don't find any downside to them, but if I have to put one, it would be consistent manpower or staffing. The only area where the solution can be improved is going to be with people. As they grow, they are struggling with the same thing that every other company is, which is getting talent and getting that talent to stay, but they've just revised their tiering system to go from a flat analyst and manager to a three-tier solution where it goes through two or three before it gets elevated. That seems to have worked out well, so if one level misses it, the next one picks it up, and it works out fine."
"The simplicity of CrowdStrike Falcon Complete's content control and firewall management should be improved."
"The documentation that they had for the use of their API's was not very helpful."
"CrowdStrike Falcon Complete MDR offers an optional module that might not be cost-effective for all organizations."
"It would be better if they offered other language options. It's only in English, and in Latin America, we mostly speak Spanish."
"We have also been using Cisco AMP for Endpoints for three years. We have received multiple detections in Cisco AMP for Endpoints, and we had to take some actions, whereas CrowdStrike has not detected anything critical since it has been implemented. Most of the incidents that it has detected are false positives. They should work on the false-positive issue. When it is implemented throughout the organization, it gets very difficult to check each false positive and investigate what is correct and what is not correct. It requires technical and manual intervention."
"They need to continuously integrate with other security tools such as CyberArk or Mimecast, to cover the entire IT infrastructure."
"It would be good if they fleshed it out a bit more, possibly with additional areas such as security awareness training. They could build that in. They're leveraging the same endpoint base that they have the security software on, but then they could offer a centralized portal or hub whereby someone like me could leverage it to track and put out security awareness training for people on all the common topics. I could have a centralized hub for everyone's results from that training and for the evidence that training occurred. It would be relatively straightforward, but it would add a lot for people in the compliance area. It would be a great expansion."
"We find CrowdStrike Falcon Complete to have a steeper learning curve when it is deployed in certain industries such as finance and retail."
"I would like Covalence to implement patch management as well."
"They put too much detail into the emails."
"Field Effect Covalence could benefit from enhancing its packing slip process."
"I have had a couple of challenges around updates to the agents where it seems it doesn't automatically replace older versions."
"While Covalence addresses our notification and visibility needs, it falls short in keeping information up-to-date, which is where our MSP comes in to supplement its functionality."
"It would be incredibly valuable to have the Field Effect team handle some of the third-party application patching they're currently identifying."
"In the "Arrows" tab, if we encounter multiple duplicate recommendations, it would be helpful to be able to select and resolve or dismiss them all at once."
"I would like Covalence to include patching."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"From the initial cost that Binary Defense came in with, we pared it down quite a bit over the course of 30 or 60 days. My leadership would say that their cost was high, but realistically, they were in line with the market."
"The pricing is very good. They are definitely competitive and they were lower at the time that we went with them."
"Binary Defense MDR is priced competitively and may be slightly lower than CrowdStrike."
"It's valued at the right price. Even with the number of endpoints we have, we don't feel that it's a lot more than any competitor. In fact, it might be less expensive when you look at the fact that you're getting a full flex SOC out of it along with the tools."
"The solution's price is spot on; if anything, it's slightly below the norm for most services. Compared to building the same team internally, it would cost more to create the same amount of capability than what we get from an external team. Price-wise, Binary Defense is in a great spot."
"Binary Defense has changed its pricing model from being primarily based on the volume of data to one based on escalations and incidents they handle."
"The pricing isn't that bad, it's very competitive. I don't feel that it's over-priced and I don't feel that it's under-priced."
"After we acquired this platform, we met with a number of different vendors. Binary Defense came in with a proposal that was surprisingly affordable. In fact, we were able to recoup the cost of their services within a short period of time. This is because Binary Defense is able to provide the same level of security as a team of two or three in-house analysts but at a fraction of the cost. As a result, Binary Defense is saving us an estimated $250,000 to $300,000 per year."
"There is an annual subscription."
"It is expensive, but looking at the capabilities that it brings, it is reasonable. There are no additional costs to the licensing costs. If you increase the number of licenses, support is included."
"The solution needs to have human involvement, they could improve by having more automation where the solution can take the necessary action on time and more accurately."
"The licenses are sold per user."
"There is a license for this solution and everything is included. However, The price of the could be lower."
"The price of this solution is expensive compared to others solutions."
"There are different lengths of licenses available, such as three and five years. The price of CrowdStrike Falcon Complete is expensive."
"The pricing for CrowdStrike Falcon Complete is competitive. It's a cheaper solution when you compare it with others, and on a scale of one to five, I'm rating its pricing a four. You also don't need to pay extra for its features. CrowdStrike Falcon Complete is perfect."
"The licensing model itself is solid, but we're ironing out some inconsistencies in how customer profiles are configured."
"The pricing is comparable to what else is out there."
"Field Effect Covalence's pricing is just right."
"The pricing isn't sized, so Field Effect doesn't make it easy for anything under 25 users. I'm not crazy about that."
"We're currently enrolled in the volume package, which offers tiered pricing based on usage."
"We were particularly impressed with their pricing model, which charges per user rather than per system."
"Covalence is cost-effective."
"The cost of the solution is high."
